I can’t remember seeing this in a thread although it is a couple of days old now.
In a meeting with Bishops from Austria Saturday, Pope Benedict XVI warned them against the false notion that church teachings should be watered down so as to prevent people from leaving the Church. “At times, those who direct this mission fear that people may move away if they are spoken to clearly,” he said. “However,” added the Pope, “experience has generally shown that the opposite happens. … Catholic teaching presented incompletely is self- contradictory and cannot be fruitful in the long term.”

The teachings are already watered down
Not by everyone thank goodness. Maybe now we’ll have more priests and bishops who are prepared to teach with authority once more.

feels good to be catholic -B16 rules.

let truth speak for itself. nobody is benefiting from watered down teaching. it’s not like your not held responsible for not knowing your faith. feigned ignorance may only increase your culpability. especially those who are entrusted to be shepards and lay their life down for the flock.

I have been critised for speaking out and informing people what the Church really teaches about certain things, even though I do it as gently and respectfully as I can.

Such as when a “good, practicing” Catholic in good standing in the Parish speaks out and says that there are some cases when abortion, IVF or euthanasia are excusable.

I have even had the priest ‘side’ with excusing this way of thinking. (The same priest I gave the relevant GIRM to when he dropped the Creed at Sunday Mass.)

I have worked as a crisis pregnancy counsellor and have heard heart-rending stories, but cannot condone abortion except when it is a case when neither the child nor the mother will survive such as ectopic pregnancies.

Maybe some of the priests and bishops will realize we only have one Pope and they’re not him. We’ve had enough of their taylor-made rules that suits them, and some of their ultra-liberal priests.
