Benedict XVI is set to appoint Hildegard of Bingen as a Doctor of the Church in October of 2012. She was a German Benedictine nun and was known for her visions and prophecies.

Well, I for one am very excited about this - the Holy Father is really all about the proclaiming of new Doctors isn’t he???
St. Hildegard is, to me, an untapped resource - her Scivias is like a more mystical version of the Summa Theologica, and her visions are absolutely profound. They seem entirely orthodox as well, though others might not agree…
Anyways, I’m all for Hildegard - and St. Gertrude the Great as well!!!

I’ve heard of some of St. Hildegard’s poetry, put to music by Richard Einhorn in his oratorio about St. Joan of Arc, ‘Voices of Light’.

Wow! Our Holy Father is going all out to create new Doctors of the Church (the other new one is St. John of Avila, which was announced at World Youth Day in Madrid last year)!

Maybe Hildegard will be canonized in the same ceremony as Mother Marianne Cope and Kateri Tekakwitha…who knows…? 😉 🙂

Great CD if you can find it (Richard Einhorn’s Oratorio) 👍 👍 about St. Hildegard as well.

I have the CD, “Vision” - the composition of the first track, O Virga AcDiadema, is hauntingly beautiful and very unusual. Let’s all pray to our prophets during this time in Church history.

This week Hildegard was not mentioned in the group of 7 to be canonized on October 21, 2012 … does this mean the previous reports of her canonization and designation as Doctor of the Church were incorrect?

What fabulous news, and i.m.o. long overdue.

Tigg, I also had (now lost) a tape (pre-CD days), which may have duplicated some of what you have. 🙂
