Russia insofar as it is part of the world. …] My point is that it is disingenuous to insinuate that this is specifically to Russia with the rest of the world as a bonus. It plays into emotions regarding Fatima on an issue that is settled.
Our Lady of Fatima
never asked for Russia *alone *to be consecrated. She only said: “I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart”.
Only many years later, in a private revelation of 1929, Sr. Lucia says Our Lady asked “the Holy Father, in union with all the Bishops in the world, to make the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart”
Now, if we are to acknowledge these private revelations as part of the requests of Our Lady of Fatima, then we must acknowledge all of them, not just a part of them.
What I mean is that on August 19, 1931, Sr. Lucia was praying for the conversion of Spain, Portugal, Europe, Russia and the world. In another private revelation, Our Lord told her:
You please me very much by praying for the conversion of those countries. Ask this grace also of My Mother.
He then dictated two prayers to her:
Sweet Heart of Mary, be the salvation of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.
By Thy pure and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, obtain for me the conversion of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.
Clearly Our Lord and Our Lady also had other countries in mind, in fact the whole world.
On October 31, 1942, Pope Pius XII does a consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart broadcasted in Portugal via radio. A second consecration by Pius XII took place in Rome on December 8, 1942 with a specific mention of Russia.
On November 21, 1964, Pope Paul VI renewed and expanded the Consecration, at the closing of the Third Session of Vatican Council II.
On May 13, 1982 Pope John Paul II consecrated the whole world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
On October 16, 1983 the consecration was renewed at the assembly of the Synod of Bishops, employing the same prayer of 1982, and the Pope mentioned that he had asked all his brothers in the episcopate to be with him spiritually.
On March 25, 1984 in St. Peter’s Square the pope renewed the consecration once more.
The consecrations of Pope John Paul II clearly stated:
In a special way we entrust and consecrate to you those individuals and nations which particularly need to be entrusted and consecrated.
Furthermore, in the letter the Pope sent to the world’s bishops, he clarified that this consecration of 1984 was a renewal of the two acts of consecration made by Pope Pius XII (of the world and Russia in particular) .
On August 29,1989, Sr. Lucia wrote:
this same Supreme Pontiff, John Paul II wrote to all the bishops of the world asking them to unite with him. He sent for the statute of Our Lady of Fátima – the one from the little Chapel to be taken to Rome and on March 25, 1984 - publicly - with the bishops who wanted to unite with His Holiness, made the Consecration as Our Lady requested. They then asked me if it was made as Our Lady requested, and I said, “YES.” Now it was made.
It is quite interesting however how some still insist in questioning what 3 popes have done and the very words of Sr. Lucia.
Personally, I don’t think Pope Francis will want to use a different form of consecration, because that may make many say: “See? We were right. The other popes hadn’t done it right.” I doubt he wants to do that. However he may explicitly and publicly mention what Pope John Paul II mentioned privately, namely that he is renewing the consecrations of Pope Pius XII of the world and of Russia.
We’ll see what happens.
