By “homosexual lifestyle,” I am referring to homosexuals who engage in sinful sexual intercourse with members of the same sex, and by “homosexual culture,” I am referring to activism for freedom to “marry” and frequenting places that support all of this stuff.I still don’t understand what you mean by “lifestyle”. Do you merely mean someone who has sex with someone else of the same sex?
(Or, does a homosexual person who is *not *having sex still live this “homosexual lifestyle”?)
What do you mean by homosexual “culture”?
Homosexual and heterosexual people of similar geographical areas, backgrounds, and eras share the same culture together.
Whatever you do, don’t throw in the phrase “homosexual agenda,” too.
That will really mess us up.
It seems that the way the term “homosexual lifestyle” is used by some people applies to those gay people who practice same-sex behavior (not to those who are celibate). I find this somewhat paradoxical in the sense that many of the same people who define it that way also state that sexuality should NOT be the defining characteristic of people’s identity; however, by means of this definition, it is THEY who are making it the defining characteristic.I still don’t understand what you mean by “lifestyle”. Do you merely mean someone who has sex with someone else of the same sex?

I think this may betray a lack of understanding about why the Church teaches some acts are immoral. The Church does not make the rules; Her role is more akin to God’s mail man. She doesn’t create rules - good or bad - she just reports them. Thus “rules” surrounding homosexuality and the indissolubility of marriage are not a construct of the Church, rather, they’re simply reporting what truths God has revealed to the Church.
It’s also worth pointing out that living in 2015 doesn’t change a lot. I think our generation likes to pretend that we’re the first generation of people who have had problems with Church morality. In other parts of the world, for example, the Church’s issues with sexual morality stem not from homosexuality but from polygamy. In Asia, it’s the Church’s attitude towards forgiveness and mercy that meets the most cultural resistance. Should the Church, then, abandon her teachings on mercy, forgiveness, and monogamy? If not, then why what makes Western culture so special that the Church should capitulate to their demands but refuse those of every other time and place?
Richard - I’m glad that as a straight person, people are not continually obsessed with what I do and don’t do sexuality , in the privacy of my own abode. Yep, those evil LGBTQ people have the guts to get up every morning and get ready for work then go out an earn a living and love their families are just copying the upstanding straight folks. They made the decision when they were 3 or 4 that they were gay and wanted to live life where a third of the population think they are perverts. Makes perfect sense to me.By “homosexual lifestyle,” I am referring to homosexuals who engage in sinful sexual intercourse with members of the same sex, and by “homosexual culture,” I am referring to activism for freedom to “marry” and frequenting places that support all of this stuff.
May God bless you abundantly and forever!![]()
Look, obviously my trying to display my being against homosexuality in practice is falling on much coldness on your part. For this reason, I am not going to attempt to change your mind now on this topic…I will simply leave you with the following statement from the Word of God Himself through Saint Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 6, verse 9 (emphasis is mine):Richard - I’m glad that as a straight person, people are not continually obsessed with what I do and don’t do sexuality , in the privacy of my own abode. And of course heterosexuals NEVER engage in abominable sex on occasion……and then engage in abominable sex on occasion.
Respectfully, that’s a caricature of the Church’s view on sexual morality. The vast majority of western Catholics, including myself, believe that the overwhelming majority of instances of same-sex attraction are innate and irreversible. Many of us would also gladly concede that members of the LGBTQ community continue to suffer legitimate cases of discrimination. In fact, the Catechism of the Catholic Church actually exhorts Catholics to help end unjust cases of discrimination against the LGTBQ community. The Church’s teachings surrounding homosexuality do not stem from the fact that they are obsessed with the LGBTQ community, nor does it rest on the assumption that members of the LGBTQ community are especially bad people. It relies on the Church’s belief about the nature of sex, sexuality, and sexual difference.Richard - I’m glad that as a straight person, people are not continually obsessed with what I do and don’t do sexuality , in the privacy of my own abode. Would you not say a heterosexual couple using contraception also engages in “abominable” sex?…and then engage in abominable sex on occasion.
Exactly! For the Church, using contraception is disordered. Therefore sex with contraception is abominable.Would you not say a heterosexual couple using contraception also engages in “abominable” sex?![]()
The word used is arsenokoites which according to Strong’s Greek means a male engaging in same-gender sexual activity.Yikes.
I think the majority of married people are in trouble, since sodomy includes oral sex.
.
Exactly! For the Church, using contraception is disordered. Therefore sex with contraception is abominable.
It is clear that the majority of Catholics use contraception, for confirmation of this, we just need to look at the size of Catholic families, ie 2 or 3 children and not 10.
This must mean that the average Catholic heterosexual lifestyle is abominable.
Anyone who lives without having illicit sex is living a chaste lifestyle.Hm. Interesting.
So…what kind of lifestyle, I wonder, would those same people attribute to a gay person who is *not *having sex?
I mean…if a homosexual person who is not having sex with someone of the same gender *isn’t *practicing this “homosexual lifestyle”…I’m assuming they are not practicing a “heterosexual lifestyle” either.
So, I wonder, then…whose lifestyle are they living??
.
Just to be clear: “anybody” in this context refers to both people attracted to the opposite sex and to people attracted to the same sex. The only context in which chastity also involves engaging in (appropriate) sexual activity is in the context of marriage between a man and a woman. All other sexual activity is unchaste.Anyone who lives without having illicit sex is living a chaste lifestyle.
Not to mention masturbation which is also a grave sin.And of course heterosexuals NEVER engage in abominable sex on occasion…![]()
Unless they be masturbating.Anyone who lives without having illicit sex is living a chaste lifestyle.
Love. The pope loves and cares for all people. He is trying to find a way to reach them. You can only do that with love. He is not compromising Catholic belief.msnbc.com/msnbc/pope-francis-meet-gay-activist?ref=yfp
One question: Why? We are not a political party or a social club. To meet with someone who is working to further the acceptance of sin is not helpful to a flock who is already in a state of confusion on the matter.
This. Seriously. He is the most Christ like Pope in a very, very long time.Nazareth News “Jesus meets with Samaritan woman!”
:thumbsup:Indeed, he actually practices living out the Gospels instead of just talking about it. True leaders understand that surrounding yourself with “yes men” does nothing to foster education and understanding of views different than your own. Papa Francis lived and worked in a huge city where he took public transportation and cooked gor himself. He was part of the real world and inately seems to understand the problems facing his flock.This. Seriously. He is the most Christ like Pope in a very, very long time.
Then they wouldn’t be living a chaste lifeUnless they be masturbating.
