Pope Benedict XVI will preach in Westminster Hall, where Catholic martyrs including Sir Thomas More were condemned to die, when he visits England next September, it has emerged.

Now if only we could get the Abbey back that would be great. When I went to England last spring (before I converted) I went to worship in the Abbey and now when I think about it, I just really want to see the Abbey, and the rest of the great churches in England back under the Catholic fold.

I was nervous in the Abbey. One couldn’t move, it seemed, without stepping on a grave.

But perhaps patience will out. WIth more Catholics attending Mass on Sundays in the UK than C of E folks going to their churches, simple economics may dictate giving them back to the people who can pay the freight to keep them up.

PS: One is reminded of the chap who went to the Abbey one Sunday while visiting London. He usually worshipped in a rural, non-Anglican community, and when he was moved to enthusiasm by the sermon being preached, he stood up and shouted, “Praise the Lord!” A sidesman came over to him and immediately informed him, “Sir, we do not ‘Praise the Lord’ in Westminster Abbey!”
