In any case, there are about twenty or so other areas, where the Catholics do not want to bend or adjust their teachings to coincide with what the Orthodox teach.
Again, we can always find an excuse to do the wrong thing… or to do nothing at all–which in most cases of an historical wrong is the same thing.

Ah, but the Catholics have bent on purgatory. What have the Orthodox done? nothing.
Perhaps we could say that Orthodox people have patiently waited for 1,000 years and now Bishop of Rome is bending. This must be sign to wait longer.

But serious, I am not sure that “longing” for unity is a very helpful first step. As I understand such English verb - it implies a mental or emotional state of desire. As Orthodox bishops have proposed some ACTION in cooperation will be more helpful than such “longing”. Correct me if I misunderstand. But this seems like telling Jewish people in Fascist camps that they should “long” for freedom. This mental or emotional state is not an end.

True cooperation is already happening now in many eparchias wih Catholic Society of St. Aegidij (Egidij).

Shocking. But not surprising. You just keep proving my points over and over and over again.

The Orthodox could not give less evidence of honoring Christ in John 17.

Shameful.

what is this?
Do you know of anything online that I could look at regarding St. Aegidij society?
Moscow Patriarchate sait online
patriarchia.ru/db/text/30265.html

Also 30 September, 2007, The representative of Russian orthodox Church at the European International Organizations Bishop Vienna and Avstria Ilarion gave the Patriarchal Prize to the head of the Belgian division of the society of St. Aegidij Baroness Hilda Kiebom. Also Mitropolit Kirill Smolenskij Kaliningrandskij has spoken to their meeting in Bari Italia.

These are Catolic laypersons who are very much cooperating with Russian Church. I hope X Victor will be also able to read such information and perhaps aid this society - more useful than longing.

You don’t hapen to have a site in english do you?
Are you a priest?

So, while Catholics accurately wish to welcome the Orthodox into the embrace of Mother Church, when the Orthodox speak this way, it is being provocative.
It is difficult to understand the welcome of Catholics who have gone to Constantinople in 1054 and placed a bull of excommunication on the altar of the Hagia Sophia, or who have gone in the Fourth Crusade and looted the precious artifacts from Orthodox Churches and placed them in Catholic Churches in the West. And more recently, in World War II, Franciscan Catholic clergy, such as Miroslav Filipovac, have been commandants of the brutal concentration camp at Jasenovac where Serbian Orthodox were tortured and killed.

Volodymyr:
Longing is a poetic way of saying desire. One cannot work toward anything without first desiring it.

Frankly, your English isnt good enough to play word games.

I have never heard of that award and have never heard of those societies. But I am aware that the MP regularly sends mixed and conflicting messages. He is the least dependable of the Eastern hierarchs for either consistency or charity toward the west. So, I dont expect this to mean much, really.

Oh and the Orthodox Serbs massacred both Muslims and Catholics in Bosnia in the 1990’s. And those good holy Orthodox Serbs were backed by Russia and the MP no less. After all this time, they are still uncovering mass graves. One was just found last week with thousands of bodies.

If you want to reach back to Constantinople that is a bit of a stretch since no one I know was alive back then.

Resorting to this old crud will not substitute for showing a single positive gesture of the East toward the West. There is non. Not one. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Look we have all suffered greatly. No one in this forum advocates the sins of their fathers. We should not use them as proof that another is wrong. In the event that they are used this way we will all pray fro mercy and healing.
I know people on all the sides of this civil war in particular. The atrocities are horendus. They are not things that any of us can ever hope to overcome alone. They are things that all of us need forgiveness and restoration to our brothers for if we do not cultivate forgiveness we shall be lost. This is not something any of us can argue with.

So somebody somewhere gets a chicken dinner and a plaque. Big deal. Means nothing.

I am not sure what you are talking about here, but it really does mean a lot when Catholics and Orthodox work together on a joint project. If I am interpreting this correctly, I am sorry to read that some people think it means nothing at all.

If these folks are working together, that is fine. But, that is not an excuse for the Orthodox hierarchs to do nothing.

Unity is only possible if the hierarchs actually do something to promote it. Giving people a chicken dinner and a plaque for the work they are doing is no substitute for the the genuine engagement of the Orthodox hierarchy. So far they have done nothing.

Who is Bishop Hilarian? What gossip?

And isnt Adoration a Catholic thing? I thought the Orthodox hated that.

Hi

I think something positive needs to be done by all the Christian denominations for Unity such as Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, JWs and Mormons etc, mere lip service won’t bring in any results. This is all the more important as this has to be done before the Second Coming of Jesus as a preparation for his coming, if they at all believe in Second Coming of Jesus.

I think they don’t now believe in it. Do they?

Did they pull the what are you doing for unity page?
I think we were all over any kind of issues we had with eachother.
