What is your point?
I was answering two posts. With regard to your post, my point was that Rudy would be answering to the pope whether he likes it or not should he become president since Canon Law places him as Head of State under the Roman Pontiff’s sole, direct jurisdiction in certain matters.

Heads of state are not subject to the pontiff…in theory the president would be subject to the archbiship of washington d.c.

Honestly, I think it sends the message that the Church does not really believe the faith. According to the faith, mortal sins can lead us to hell, and if that is true, then the Church should be doing everything it possibly can to help people avoid going to hell. Yet, it really never does much of anything regarding the constant scandal of public people sinning and then laughing in the face of the Church, which simply leaves lay Catholics with the feeling that the Church must not take its own teachings very seriously.
Exactly - the message is many priests and bishoips don’t beleive the Faith. Truth to tell, I think many don’t.

Please read these two canons from the Code of Canon Law.

Can. 1401 The Church has its own and exclusive right to judge:

1° cases which refer to matters which are spiritual or linked with the spiritual;

2° the violation of ecclesiastical laws and whatever contains an element of sin, to determine guilt and impose ecclesiastical penalties.

Can. 1405 §1 In the cases mentioned in can. 1401, the Roman Pontiff alone has the right to judge:

Heads of State;

Its a nice dodge for Guliani. He can say he has discussed it with his spriritaul advisir while never revealing who it is and never explaining how he , as a Catholic, would have a spritiual advisor who told him it was OK to ignore the Curhc’s teachings on Abortion.

All Guliani has to do is sucker the legions of Catholics that say they are pro-life but never miss an opportunity to rationalize voting for a pro-abortion canidate.

We do? Does not Paul not say to be all things to all men? You’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
Do you have anything to add to this debate other than to stand on the sidleines and toss stones at both sides?

The Pope only has jurisidtion in spiritual matters.

Or, as the culture has done so well, they have fallen prey to modernist thinking about matters of faith.
