Neither will popemobile have bullet-proof shield, despite violence in country

You do have to respect Pope Francis’ “if God wills it” attitude about his own safety.

I’m always terrified for him but at the same time it is inspiring to see him living that notion so publicly.

yup. I do kind of wish that it was a decision that was not publicized.
It’s not something I wonder about, but now I’m worried someone will see an “opening”!

God bless him. He’s doing such good work in healing the hearts of the people.

I was thinking the same thing, wish they would keep that quiet.

I think he should not go in this instance.
I am with you. Not only is his life at risk, but also those accompanying him from the Vatican, as well as those in charge of protecting him and those who turn out to see him. We will just have to pray very hard for him.

I guess he is trying to send a message by doing so. Wouldnt be very effective if unpublicized. Even though I value his decision, some might find it reckless, and its easy to understand such POV.

Oh yes, its a message he is sending, I mean, if we found out our Pope was wearing a bullet proof vest when he visited the US, it would imply he is relying on worldly protection and his faith is not strong enough to protect him, I can see why they went public with this.

I would imagine he probably is not that keen about his pope mobile having bullet proof glass all over it, but Im sure his security detail demand some level of protection, faith alone is not enough for them, Plus if its ‘his time’ to go, it wont matter how much protection he has, its going to happen no matter what.

There has been some indication that the current pope sees his destiny as a martyr, and believes that he will be killed in office.
Hopefully is not taking chances like this to push the envelope.

I have had the same thoughts. I hope not and pray for his safety and those around him.

Satan led Jesus up to the tower on the temple and invited him to jump, because for sure God would save him.

Code:
Jesus did not allow to be pushed down the cliff when cornered. And He walked pass them.
  He had a mission.

Darryl , the Pope knows Scripture. Let him live it.

I think you are reading too much into the Pope. I don’t think for a second he assumes God will save him. He is just acknowledging that he may be shot, and may be killed, while ministering to his flock. If that’s God’s will, so be it. But he seems unwilling to live in fear or live separated from those he’s been tasked to minister to. You have to respect that and it’s a model to live by. Unafraid, unbowed, and a peace with God’s will whatever that may be.

God bless Pope Francis, May the Holy spirit guide and protect him.

that is a good way of looking at it. why aren’t you Catholic! 🙂

He is very free to live it, or die it. according to his choice, as we all are.
May the Holy Spirit be with him.

But I don’t find taking a few precautions particularly unholy, nor deciding not to take a few basic precautions to be a particular mark of holiness either. People who are making this as an example of Catholic bravery should also consider the counter-examples that the faith provides.

I have my reasons. I may not agree with him all the time (the real Francis, not the cherry picked Francis the press often presents), but there are plenty of areas I do agree with him. And even where I would disagree, I still have the utmost respect for the man. He seems to live his vocation far more than many other spiritual leaders of men. That and I’ve been taught by too many Jesuits to not respect their devotion from my own personal experience and Francis does not appear to be any exception to that. 👍
