Marktl am Inn, Germany, Dec 21, 2012 / 04:16 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A Christmas letter that Pope Benedict XVI wrote to Baby Jesus when he was seven years-old demonstrates his devotion to the Sacred Heart and his desire to be a priest.

The letter is on display this Advent in the village of Marktl am Inn in Bavaria, where he was born.

“Dear Baby Jesus, quickly come down to earth. You will bring joy to children. Also bring me joy,” he wrote in the 1934 letter, published on the Church-affiliated Italian website Korazym.org.

Adorable! It’s sometimes easy to forget, to me, that even popes were children once. :o
 
Our Cardinal asked, and received, a statue of the Infant of Prague, for his birthday when he was about 7…

I guess his mom probably had a clue he was going to become a priest.

What a nice letter. 🙂 I’ve always liked to hear stories of religious figures as children. One that particularly interested me was St. Catherine Laboure when she, after her mother had passed and she had been buried, kissed her Mary statue and said “Now, dear lady, you are to be my mother.”

That reminds me of my own life; both my mother and sister have asked if I wish to grow up to be a priest because of how much I’ve gotten into our religion. I’ve put up pictures (that I traced and colored in) of Mary, and am asking for a Our Lady of Grace statue along with a crucifix for Christmas. 😛 Que sera sera!
 
Green cleric garbe, huh? That mean he was excited to celebrate during Ordinary Time, right? 😃
