Pope's comment ordination of gay people

The elephant in the room of this whole discussion is that a whole lot of people think the answer to the priest shortage is to start ordaining more married priests, so nobody wants to say that it’s bad for a male priest to have some feelings for a woman.

If we’re going to reach actual gay humans, we’ve got to drop the “gay lifestyle” canard because it’s just not reality in 2018.
Indeed. Language like that serves only to drive people away from the Church. Not only gays and lesbians, but anyone else who has friends or family members that are LGBT.

I know quite a few people who have drifted from the Church over the years, and the Church’s treatment of LGBT people factored into a lot of their decisions. One of them told me, “Who wants to be around a bunch of homophobes?” I know where he is coming from. On this forum alone, there is no shortage of posts that are dripping with hatred of LGBT people, justified under the name of religion. I wouldn’t want to be around any of the posters like that, either.
OK I quess I will willhave to ask you to please show one post that is dripping with hatred of gay people. I’m guessing you can’t.

This thread is about Gay me joining the priesthood. I’m thinking that a man wanting to become a priest is indeed a orthodox Catholic man. With this in mind he should know and understand the the reasoning behind the Church not wanting deepseated homosexual tendicies. If this causes this man to leave the church. This is a clear sign that this man was indeed not fit for the priesthood.

Bearing in mind ( no pun intended) that the heterosexual inclination is not, in itself, disordered.

Of course they can attend Mass. But if they are sexually active homosexuals, they cannot receive Communion without committing further mortal sin. The same as with anyone else receiving Communion while in a state of mortal sin.

Excuse me, but no one from what I’ve seen has ever suggested that those who struggle with that are “less than.” You don’t know our experiences, our lives, or anything about us. What a ridiculous and arrogant accusation.
You have not been around here for long, have you?

And I was replying to @AndrewAxland and his comments.

If you don’t thing that homophobia and “gay bashing” don’t happen here, you really need to take your blinders off.
Again, please show evidence of this!

Therefore those practising and promoting without repenting of their wrongdoing need to be kept away not just from catholic seminaries but from catholic churches.
Here you go @ Imdaman.
This is mild, but an example none the less. Most of the very egregious ones get removed.

But it can make a priest’s life under the current rules very disorderly.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the concern about the seminaries being hotbeds for all sorts of disorderly stuff, and I think this was precisely because they were admitting a lot of people who were turning to the enforced celibacy as some means of trying to overcome their inclinations (various types), not because they truly had a call to the priesthood.

Is every gay man who wants to be a priest a good candidate? Probably not.

Can some of them be good candidates, maybe even saints? Probably yes, and we’ve probably already had many and just didn’t know it because they didn’t announce it.

It often takes the words of church authorities for me to believe criticisms about the church. I just see that the church was founded by Jesus- who’s perfect. Maybe it’s a thing with me, but doubting the church is like doubting Jesus.
Well then I would imagine you agree with the Church then on this subject. It is the people that do not agree with what the Church is saying here that disagree with the Church.

Maybe so. And as far as current qualifications for and restrictions on seminary admissions, I think the Church has made progress.

The way I read that post was that Sursum was referring to clerical roles in the Church, not parishioners.

Sodomy is a mortal sin.

Therefore those practising and promoting without repenting of their wrongdoing need to be kept away not just from catholic seminaries but from catholic churches.
People with Mortal Sin need the church most of all! All need to come to the church, All need her healing. All need the Body and Blood of Christ!

Even then, it is wrong. The Church turns no one away, and no one should be made to feel the must be “perfect” to enter one.

Sursum, Can you please enlightn us why you are saying this. Some here believe it is because you hate Gay man and women. Although your post seems a bit harsh especially the fact that you say Gays should stay away from the Chuirch. Please clarify this so we can understand your thought process here!

Yes, and people can believe what they like. But it’s not fair to take out their disagreements on believers of the Church.

I have asked Sursum to clarify his thoughts to find out if he indeed does hate Gay people!
