Popes Giving Communion To Non-Catholics

Actually a Catholic politician… let’s say Newt Gingrich as an example… who cheats on his wife and is publicly exposed shouldn’t be receiving Communion either.
Apples and oranges. Newt Gingrich is a convert who has repented of his past affairs, and AFAIK doesn’t currently cheat on his wife. Even if he does, and repents, he is allowed to receive Holy Communion like any of the rest of us sinners. What Newt doesn’t do is go around teaching that adultery is perfectly in line with Catholic teaching, which is what these other “Catholic” politicians do regarding abortion and same-sex marriage.
The first time I’ve heard of this policy is with Pope Francis. It is a relatively simple solution he has discovered for this problem.
Really? Cardinal Burke has been talking about this policy for years. lifesitenews.com/news/cardinal-burke-its-very-clear-pro-abort-politicians-should-be-refused-commu/

Even Pope Francis talked about this with the Argentinian priests when he was Cardinal Bergoglio. This is not a new policy; it’s just not followed like it should be.
And the point I was making is that it isn’t so much a no brainer. Easier in theory than in practice. How long do you think that a Germany bishop would have lasted if he publicly denied Hitler Communion?? He and his associates would have ended up on the next transport to Auschwitz. This is what Pius XII faced during World War II.
Many saints have been martyred protecting the Holy Eucharist from desecration, which is exactly what happens when sacrilege is openly permitted. And it’s not that difficult in practice; just ask Cardinal Burke who has NAMED specific people who are not allowed to receive Communion until they recant their anti-Catholic positions. Even without naming names, how difficult would it be for a bishop/priest to announce at Mass that anyone who is not in a state of grace (which includes anyone that publically promotes grave evils such as abortion or gay marriage) should not come up to receive Holy Communion?

The only thing difficult about it is the fear of public backlash. Well, thanks be to God that Our Lord, His Apostles, and many of the Saints that followed didn’t have that fear when even their lives were at stake.

Thank you. I think this is what I had seen before, but could not remember where, so I have sat on the sidelines.
