But no one sees the Pope without being vetted.
If you believe that, especially about this Pope, I have a lovely bridge you might like to buy.

(Think about the stories of him going out among the poor at night without his Papal robes.)

Yes. If protesting wasn’t enough, they should resign.

That is what being an honorable person is all about. That is saintly behavior. That is what true believers and martyers do.
Can you give an example of someone in history who acted in the way you believe to be correct, when acting as a government official faced with an unjust law?

Stay within the universe of discourse, sally.

We are talking about formal meetings.

sigh.

Do you think that there have ever been laws that government officials ought not have followed?
I would think there have been many such instances.
If so, should they have resigned, or stood up and protested the injustice of the law?
They could do both. I am no supporter of SSM, for sure, but in this instance I would resign rather than defy the law by refusing to perform the duties of my job while continuing to accept a paycheck for performing those duties. What do you think would happen if the U.S. President defied the U.S. Supreme Court and refused to follow a direct order of a federal court? There is the larger issue of the rule of law.

Ummm…nope.

Not sure what prompted that question, but it’s the biggest nonsequitur I’ve seen in a long time.
People are suggesting that the Pope only meets with people who have been vetted to have beliefs the Pope agrees with and that is why he met with Kim Davis. If that supposition is true, then he must agreed with President Obama.

Just following the logic.

BTW, I hate auto spell.

Some call her a hypocrite but that doesn’t address whether she has a right, legally under the U.S. federal RFRA or state RFRA and morally, to not have to partake in the issuing of same-sex marriage licenses, and the same goes for other clerks.
I’m not sure about whether the RFRA laws apply in her case. They usually do not cover public employee who refuse to carry out their official duties. And as to whether she has a moral right to do what she’s doing, if she is indeed a hypocrite wouldn’t that kind of undermine her moral standing?

Excellent.

Did he voluntarily resign when he disagreed with the unjust law?
Why don’t you tell me, since you are smarter than me.

Are you saying that not one single person ever resigned than do the wrong thing. I know you are wrong, because I personally quit a job rather than do the wrong thing. And I didn’t have a savings account that would tied me over.

I don’t think any of her husbands have been Catholic. Does that make a difference or are only Catholic marriages or Catholic husbands valid?
Nope. Non Catholic marriages are recognized as valid marriages.

LOL!!

No one has said that he was “vetted to have beliefs the Pope agrees with”.

Please follow the conversation, sally. Stay with it before making nonsequiturs and offering conclusions that are illogical.

In fact, I think that I am going to have to bow out of discussions with you because the nonsequiturs and unreasonable assertions are disagreeable to me.

In other words, when someone uses your logic to support positions you don’t like, you quit.

I did not say that the Pope agreed with President Obama, I said the logic could be used to say he did.

It is a bit confusing.
Not really. The Church views baptisms and marriages by other Christian churches as valid baptisms and marriages. If you convert, as long as it isn’t from JW or Morman, your baptism is valid. Same with marriages, although I think there isn’t even that restriction. If you have a civil marriage, it is valid.
