Really? What about dreams? Signs and wonders?
What about the need to recognize satan’s ominous deceptions?
The bible does tell us that many people will be fooled, so I would not worry when people try to cite science in an attempt to explain away such incidents, will only get worse in the future!

So they were domesticated.

Is this morally different from declawing cats and then setting them free to roam, for example?
Oh you’ll get no moral argument from me on this one, my cousin and I had just read the article and thought it hilarious… 😃 😃

Because you know, there are no white doves - except the ones bred by the Vatican. White doves and Albinos 😃

Peace be with you and SMILE :bounce:

Thanks and peace to you too.

All the same, I wonder what St. Francis would have thought about this. 😦

I think it was Saint Rose of Lima who was attacked by a flock of birds when her father was bringing her to the city as a child. One of the Popes was allegedly picked when a Dove landed on his head.
Yes animals can be taken over by evil, a number of years ago I was leaving a friends house in the wee small hours & was confronted by a growling black Labrador dog, it was bearing it’s fine gnashers at me and wasn’t backing off. So I made the Sign of the Cross and it took to it’s heels. I have read some derogatory stories on this bird attack at the Vatican on other web-sites, evil knows no boundaries…

Ok. Ha. That’s **somewhat **funny. So what? What difference does it make? Someone really hates the pope. What else is new?
That’s it!? Only somewhat… 😦 I thought it was hilarious… it’s my own joke, I know… but still

Birds attack other birds, and can be extremely vicious about it, even if the other birds are not freaks.
I saw a group of crows going after a bald eagle once.

On one level the story has an eerie quality about it, some of the tone and mood of those old Omen movies about Damien. White doves in this case are intentionally symbolic, so even a random, perfectly natural event that is perfectly explainable cannot help but play a role in the associations that spring to mind.
Yes, the fact that these doves were symbols of peace that were attacked by other birds (not that these things can’t happen) just seems . . . .eerie!

p.s. I’m reminded of that picture of lightning striking the top of the Vatican dome/spire the day Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation. What did you think of that?

I didn’t know about that one. I understand where one person on this thread was coming from when he warned against reading things into such events as being omens or portents of bad things to come, or something to that effect.

On the other hand, it was only recently that I kind of went on and on a thread about the meaning of the number 40, and all the meaningful associations and spiritual patterns that come into play with that number. I think I ended scaring people away from that thread, but I was left wondering what purpose there is in finding these associations in the first place. On the face of it, it doesn’t seem to have the pragmatism or the logic that are at the core of the moral teachings that are so dominant in church life.

I think in the end that our lives are filled with coincidences that are meaningful to us, if only we are open to them. There is no doubt that madness lies in seeing doom every time we are behind someone with a license plate of 666, but maybe it is a different type of madness in which we insist that every meaningful coincidence in our lives is random and it is pure delusion to even notice the symbolic meaning that natural events may hold for us.

If the news of Pope Benedict struck at us like lightning, maybe it is okay to note the heavens communicated that same message that was already in our hearts. The Spirit from without communicates to the Spirit within, and there is meaning to be had for those whose hearts are a home for the Holy Spirit. There was something sombre in the idea that our pope was leaving us, not quite death, but still something shocking and serious.

It is not a totally bad thing, I don;t think, to recognize that the fabrics of our lives have been woven together in patterns and designs, like the works of some grand Designer, and that it is the randomness and haphazardness of our everyday experience that is ultimately the illusion.

The Bible doesn’t say this but God told us we were only able to use the decimal system in determining our fate. :):)🙂

Saint Faustina’s Diary 872…
January 8. On Friday morning, as I was going to the chapel to attend Holy Mass, I suddenly saw a huge juniper tree on the pavement and in it a ***horrible cat*** who, looking angrily at me, blocked my way to the chapel. One whisper of the name of Jesus dissipated all that.
