Pope’s ‘reform of the reform’ in liturgy to continue, cardinal says

*VATICAN CITY (CNS) – Pope Benedict XVI’s easing of restrictions on use of the 1962 Roman Missal, known as the Tridentine rite, is just the first step in a “reform of the reform” in liturgy, the Vatican’s top ecumenist said.

On the final day of the conference, participants attended a Mass celebrated according to the Tridentine rite at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica. Cardinal Walter Brandmuller presided over the liturgy. It was the first time in several decades that the old rite was celebrated at the altar.

Sadly, CNS refers to the “Tridentine Rite” and seems to ignore the Holy See’s position that the Roman Rite is one rite, with two forms: the Ordinary Form and the Extraordinary Form.

Hopefully, this will eventually lead to the other sacraments, such as Confirmation, etc, becoming more available in the Extraordinary Form. When and if I get married, I want to do so in the Extraordinary Form, and hopefully by then, I won’t have to go through a ring of fire to get it done in my own dioces. For me, there’s nothing wrong with the Ordinary Form if it’s celebrated properly, as it is in my parish, but if I understand the Modu Proprio correctly, if I choose to receive a sacrament besides the Eucharist in the EF, it should be much easier than it is now. I’d like for my wedding Mass to be a solemn high EF Mass.
