Completely in character for our Holy Father.
I wonder if, after a bit of time at the psych hospital if it wouldn’t be OK for him to meet with her. For whatever reason she seems quite intent on getting close to him. I hope teh Holy father will consider such a visit. (I’m sure his aides would freak out though:hypno:)
It might do wonders for her recovery.

Peace
James

I wonder how Cardinal Etchegaray is coming along? A broken leg for an 87 year old is a fairly serious thing.

Man, I should pretend to attack the Pope so that I can get a chat with his secretary . . .
😉

A step in the right direction, I am relieved to hear His Holiness has forgiven her. I would. I hope she gets better from whatever ailment she suffers from which led her to commit such an atrocity.

Peace and love

I’m not sure I would use the term “atrocity”. The woman is ill. We don’t know why she acted as she did, or what her intention was (at least I haven’t heard anything).
Was she trying to harm the pope?
Was she trying to get to him to heal her? (like Jesus and the woman with the hemorage?)

God’s Church, and Our Gracious Holy Father are in the business of healing and forgiving so it certainly should come as no surprise that the Holy Father sent word so comfort to this poor woman.

May God heal her for the Glory of His name and the good of her soul.

Peace
James

😃 Yes, he is exceptionally easy on the eyes. No wonder the Italians call him Bel Giorgio
That I did not know. I knew about Don Giorgio having been written up in some periodicals, Italian magazines that would be comparable to our People Magazine and some of these pop culture magazines.

What I have heard, from people who know him, is that he’s very nice and an excellent lawyer. He’s not a theologian, but he’s a lawyer and one on the best around. He to teach Caonn Law. That’s how he and Cardinal Ratzinger met. The Cardinal was visiting the university where Don Giorgio was teaching. By the way, I only call him Don Girorgio, because it’s his proper title in Italian. In Latin culture Msgr is only for bishops. A religious who is a priest is Padre, a secular who is a priest is Don, which is Mr. in English.

Anyway, it was probably a good selection for this delicate viist, because Don Giorgio is a very pleasant person and is also very well known in the Roman community. He spends a lot of time outside of the Vatican. He has become a familiar face in the city of Rome. I would imagine that for an emotional ill person, a visit from the Holy Father may be overwhelming. A visit from Don Giorgio may be less formal and less intimidating. When you’re mentally ill, the staff has to be very careful not to expose the person to triggers than can set them off.

I don’t believe that she means the Holy Father any harm. She has made this attempt twice and has never had any weapon on her. It seems that she just wants to touch him. Only God and her psychiatrist know what’s going on in her mind. I’m glad to see that she’s getting health care.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

This is a fine statement about Don Georg’s visit to the unfortunate woman. As for Don Georg, after seeing a couple of photographs I think he easily beats most Hollywood actors of the same age as far as physical appearance is concerned. But this reminds me of a funny story that my beloved father, who died many years ago, used to tell me and my brothers. Apparently St. Teresa of Avila would not consider candidates to her convent that she thought were destined to religious life by their wealthy families because they were not very pleasant to the eyes of potential husbands. She said something like “Why do you bring your less beautiful girls to the service of the Lord, instead of the others?” Given her prestige in the Spanish society of the time, it seems that indeed the nuns of her convent were of exceptional beauty. This is probably just a story but I always found it funny and, to some extent, interesting.

Here’s a better photo of Don Giorgio:

Yahoo says our dear Pope met with the woman personally today:

It would be a most marvelous blessing if this meeting led to more awareness and prayers for the mentally ill in our church. 👍

Wouldn’t it be even more wonderful if, as a result of this meeting, she were cured of her mental illness. May God show her mercy.

I’m glad to see that she was able to meet with His Holiness face to face. I am also glad that there is not going to be any pictures or video released of the meeting. This is something very private.

Peace
James
