I wonder if St Peter would say to America what PopeFrancis said.

I am absolutely shocked that he did not talk more directly about SSM and abortion…??? Just one little indirect comment about family, which could be interpreted many different ways…and this is the leader of the catholic church?

He has the perfect opportunity RIGHT NOW, when everyone is watching, to speak out against these horrors, directly to the people who run this country…??? Am I the only one wondering about this?

I watched a little bit of the news coverage yesterday and found myself wondering why all the news reporters, anchors, etc were so excited about a visit by the Pope, when any other time, they take great joy at blasting the church and what we believe in, whats the difference now?

Full text of speech by Pope Francis to Congress, September …

This is the greatest Pope to date. Proud to be a Catholic today. I especially like his prolife view on the death penalty. Way to go Pope Francis.

*“This conviction has led me, from the beginning of my ministry, to advocate at different levels for the global abolition of the death penalty. I am convinced that this way is the best, since every life is sacred, every human person is endowed with an inalienable dignity, and society can only benefit from the rehabilitation of those convicted of crimes. Recently my brother bishops here in the United States renewed their call for the abolition of the death penalty. Not only do I support them, but I also offer encouragement to all those who are convinced that a just and necessary punishment must never exclude the dimension of hope and the goal of rehabilitation.” *

Just curious - were you not proud before?

Pride is a sin. " Thankful to be Catholic

I also suspect you are a public relations bot.

Didn’t even say Jesus Christ

Yep. You’d think that since the Supreme [Oligarchy] of the United States recently legalized sodomite “marriage”, the Vicar of Christ would take the time to rebuke our country’s leaders and instruct them on moral theology. After all, sodomy is a sin that cries out to Heaven for vengeance, so vile that even demons turn away in disgust. Not something to be overlooked.

From what I hear, Pope Francis DID attack abortion, and said the primary reason of his apostolic visit was to revitalize the pro-life movement among the faithful. But of course the media overlooks that. It only cares about the Pope Francis that hates CO2 emissions, supports divorce/women’s “rights”, and says “who am I do judge?” regarding homosexuality.

So very disappointed in this speech. Played right into the hands of the anti-Christian, Liberal Progressive Pro-Abortion Democrats.

He talks about the climate change hoax and talks about immigrants, but never mentions our country is broke ($100,000 debt for every man, woman and child) and how to get the money to pay for all these people. Our U6 real unemployment rate is over 10% and more for African-Americans. So where do we get the jobs for these people?

Why did he not condemn the Democrats for their abortion promotion and killing of babies? Why no attack on Democrats and Obama for failing to try and save the Christians being slaughtered by ISIS?

For a man who is so pro-people, on everything else I am just ashamed to be a Catholic after that speech.

No mention of Jesus Christ. No mention of abortion. I’m genuinely scared for the Church after watching that speech.

Oh, and on the death penalty. You can never keep anyone locked up forever. Even the tightest prisons have people escaping. The convicted even kill other convicts in prison. The ONLY measure to stop evil criminals from killing again is the death penalty. It is 100% effective at stopping future murders of the innocent. Again, the Pope was wrong on this issue.

No mention of abortion or same sex marriage. Quite frankly it was a very disappointing speech.

It was beyond disappointing. If the Pope’s deafening silence on abortion and gay “marriage” after lambasting the death penalty doesn’t wake up conservative Catholics from their la la land I don’t know what will.

More more money for the prison system to keep them locked up. We all know how profitable the American prison system is

He talked more about the death penalty for convicted criminals than the death penalty for innocent children in the womb.

My faith has been shaken today 😦

Yes, I just read it - I am a bit underwhelmed but he did, in all fairness, plainly condemn SSM and abortion - don’t blink and you’ll miss it - but it’s there in full view for any objective reader/listener. I do think he overemphasized abolishing the death penalty and a sort of international “non-intervention” mentality which can end up hurting people more than helping them. And we need to remember JP II was essentially of the same view on the death penalty before freaking out too much there (see link).

I think I would have picked four different great Americans: John Adams; Abraham Lincoln; Henry David Thoreau; Emily Dickinson. But there you go. Each to his own. 😉

I consider myself a conservative Catholic - and, again, I can handle this - he has not wavered from Christian doctrine one iota. His slant is different from mine - but my bone to pick with him is not large. (the Iran deal maybe)

Could you post his exact words regarding abortion and same sex marriage ?

Not a one. I read earlier, on a different website, where someone stated the same thing and I could not believe it but unfortunately it is true.
