Popes with facial hair?

Beg pardon, but what is the matter or trouble with facial hair or beards? I am very cultured belong to the Symphony Guild and the Art Museum Association. I have had at least a stache since I was able to grow one at age 16. That’s a lot of years since I am now retired and my beard is grey but still there.

I think his beard suits him.

I read that he was a Medici, but he looks somewhat Middle-Eastern in appearance too IMO.

He was a Medici, but did have a darker look than his cousin, Leo X (he is on the left of this pic)

I’d be all for a Pope with a beard, I think they add gravitas.

That said, I think if a Pope had a mustache or a goatee or something, it would bother me, though I don’t really know why.

Well I’ve heard it said that the only people who should have goatees are art dealers and the Devil, so maybe that’s why

I think many people, consciously or subconsciously, would regard such as a sign of vanity - justified or not. But I think that’s the reaction that would be triggered.

Why haven’t our recent Pope’s have facial hair?

perhaps they have been selected through genetic manipulation to not have facial hair.

Alternately, perhaps, they just shave when they get up in the morning.
