Pope’s words in interview may not have been his own, Scalfari says

Vatican City, Nov 21, 2013 / 05:39 pm (CNA).- Editor Eugenio Scalfari has conceded it is “really possible” that some of the Pope’s words he reported in the interview published in La Repubblica Oct. 1 “were not shared by the Pope himself.”

I think this quote from Scalfari pretty well sums it up:

“I try to understand the person I am interviewing, and after that I write his answers with my own words,” Scalfari explained.

And these words are coming from an 89 year old, socialist, atheist. Wow… :confused:
 
I would just like to say that, whatever his intentions may have been and/or still be, let us treat the man respectfully. Personally, I have pity for old people. Although don’t take that as me looking down on them.

Is it not this, the standard way that people in the media approach how they report the the events, interviews in the news nowdays?

Basically we have shifted the role of the reporter. In the old days it was: collecting and writing about the events happening in our society, without injecting the personal political view point of the reporter.
Today what we get is the opinion of the reporter or the editor of the media outlet involved, not the naked news.
This has been strongly influenced by the relativism so prevalent in our society. Where the truth has become meaningless, therefore people think they can take any liberties with the events they report on or about.

By the way calling Scalfaro a “socialist” is quite charitable IMHO, personally I recognize him as a recalcitrant communist. Although the communists there have tried very hard to disguise themselves as more moderate “socialists” after the fall of the soviets.
