Washington D.C., Mar 14, 2017 / 04:28 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- A recent analysis of 50 studies found that pornography was negatively associated with sexual and relational satisfaction among men.
The paper, entitled Pornography Consumption and Satisfaction: A Meta-Analysis, concluded that “Pornography consumption was associated with lower interpersonal satisfaction outcomes in cross-sectional surveys, longitudinal surveys, and experiments.” Specifically, pornography was linked to significant “lower sexual and relational satisfaction” among male viewers.

The analysis included a combined 50,000 participants across 10 countries, and contradicts another recent study that claimed that pornography has a positive impact on its consumers.

Don’t you love survey’s that spend a lot of money and time to tell us what we already know?

Porn is to the emotions what smoking is to the lungs. And the greatest problem with porn is not that one is looking a human sexual congress, it is a mirage that is created that leads the user to a terribly stunted view of human sexual love and the relationship between man and woman. Then again, I’ve never seen a porn film (not that I’ve seen all that many), that takes place immediately after a celebration of the sacrament of marriage in a Catholic Church.:whacky::bigyikes::nope:

Shalom

Good article. The world needs more articles like it that expose the harm done by porn.

It might be the worst thing ever.
People consider drugs and alcohol addictions, porn is worse.
I relapsed back, pray for me.

Wow a meta study now… Seems to be a legit correlation then. All the more reason to stay away from this filth

Prayers said for you for strength to fight your porn issue and may God take away your desire to view such.

Mary.

I can totally support what ths study says since I am a porn addict and have struggled with it for years.

And yes, in some ways it is even worse than alcohol or drug addiction WAY worse. The images stay in your mind and you want to repeat watching them. Plus the masturbation, of course.

I have stayed away for 2 months and have not back-slided. Pray also for me. :signofcross: :signofcross:

Praying for all those who struggle with pornography issues and all that goes with it, that with the help of God they may conquer this activity/addiction,

Mary.

Praying for those struggling with porn.
Is the idea of having accountability partners common among Catholics? I’m asking because for those struggling and if it’s not uncomfortable, it may help some if they talked about their struggles with someone face-to-face they know and trust very well who will be understanding but not lenient.

This is no surprise. Pornography teaches men to objectify women, find a new woman whenever they want, and expect their wife to have perfect looks. No woman can measure up. It’s sad and should be illegal.

Most Catholics are very lax about this and probably wouldn’t know about accountability partners, but it is known among devout Catholics as an effective way to quit. The software by Convenant Eyes is for this very purpose. I think many times the hardest part is finding a Catholic that actually believes porn is wrong and would be supportive of a fellow Catholic’s struggles (rather than telling them it’s no big deal or worse, making fun of them).

An article from the same Covenant Eyes Jared2914 mentioned . . . Another valid reason why the struggle can seem like such a steep uphill struggle at times :

Brain Chemicals and Porn Addiction:Science Shows How Porn Harms Us

Praying for everyone connected to porn and/or who will attempt to connect to porn today -

:gopray:

We have to try not to let ourselves get too discouraged - whatever habitual sin we may be battling.

God can heal and fix anything.

Persevere. The Rosary is a great weapon for persevering.

An excerpt from the prayer for Day 5 of the Novena to Our Lady of the Cape
". . . Reinforce the faith of all who doubt. Encourage those who in spite of repeated falls do not give up, but renew their efforts to live according to the Word of God."

We as Catholics also need to do better at boycotting shows like, Game of Thrones. Whether one finds the story captivating or not, it is still no excuse to watch such indecency. HBO these days seems to stand for Hell’s broadcasting orifice. No joke.

Addiction will turn into worse, the addict won’t be interested in looking at the act itself anymore, he’ll just stack porn and not even watch it, it becomes his daily duty to track every girl, guy and scene over there and find info about it (cost, shooting date, budget, …), he’ll spend hours doing that. Not something I wish for an enemy.

Don’t despair those who are there, confession is your friend, but try to stay away from people who will make you afraid and only listen to a priest.

The one thing that is so abundantly clear with porn is how fast it got to the point it is right now, one could look back just 10-15 yrs, what was considered ‘hardcore’ back then is not the same thing as hardcore right now, its definitely getting worse, but Im curious what ‘hardcore’ will be like in another 10, 20…50 yrs, I mean, how much worse could it get than it is now?!

You would think at some point, it would eventually reach a criminal level, we all know it gets worse and worse and an addict is never satisfied, always want more and desire for harder core is always there, so this is probably leading to something, as I doubt many hardcore porn viewers are going to stay satisfied viewing the same thing for years and years, eventually its going to get REALLY bad.

A slightly good news in this area, many porn sites that are parts of bigger networks are shutting down, unfortunately, these networks are shifting their business towards Eastern Europe, so Eastern European pornstars are flourishing so is human trafficking in that area.

Playboy is also cancelling some regional prints.

Eventually all porn sites will shut down, the future in that area is for virtual reality porn.

I agree with you about VR and porn, that is definitely the next thing and I fear once the technology is here to make it a reality, things will get much worse.

Playboy used to be very popular, but its like I said in my last post, its just not sufficient anymore to show a naked body, people who watch alot of porn want more hard core, they are never satisfied with the same grade of porn for long periods, its like any other sin, its progressive, so a persons preferences will get more and more extreme, although I cannot imagine how it can possibly get any more hard core than it is right now, but I bet they will find a way to do just that.
