Depending on your audience this is something that could ruin your life or risk losing your job or promotions
In a job or career where upstanding moral character is expected, perhaps.

@Cuddles1:
Siobhan, please make an appointment with your priest to talk to him in-depth. See a doctor and get checked out. Professional counseling may really be a help to you as well.

Be at peace brother. God loves you. We love you. He can redeem even the worst sinners. There is no heart that He cannot transform, no soul that he cannot bring joy to.

Be honest with your priest about your thoughts. If he is a good priest, he will understand your situation and take care.

If you feel too much anguish in everyday life, please also seek a psychologist. Depression is a real and biological disease. It can be treated.

I will pray for you 🙏

The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is just not being repentant for a sin, for we would be blaspheming against His Mercy. You are already repenting and confessing. There is actually no sin God cannot forgive if we let Him.

You may be scrupulous. Or maybe you are just in the process of accepting forgiveness for past events. I would advise to talk this with your priest…

I have shared with my wife the struggles I have had and occasionally still do have with pornography and masturbation. She was understanding and didn’t freak out but I’m not sure that telling her really helped anything. Unless there is a tangible way in which your partner can be part of the solution to the problem I’d advise a man to not share it with her. Just my opinion.

Even if you get over it and get married and fall back into it----never. ever. tell. her.
I highly disagree with this .Its something to confide about before marriage if you really love some one ,be open to getting counselling together.

Porn should be an addiction you kick before entering any relationship, as its participants are being unfaithful to their spouses and do become more emotionally/romantically distant after engaging in such behavior. On the other hand, lust is something that always follows us and all it takes is one misstep in a day to end up right back where you started, which isn’t hard given how prevalent erotic visuals are in (Western) media.

If you are a porn addict who’s already in a relationship, telling your spouse about it will almost always do more harm than good, especially in the early stages of a relationship. There’s few better ways to get dumped and have your reputation raked over the coals than to open up about that to someone you’ve only just begun dating.

So if not at the start of the relationship or even in your own marriage, when should someone tell their partner?

When it is clear their relationship is suffering (e.g. distant from spouse) as a result of the addiction. Of course, this may not be obvious until after the couple are married and living together, which means potentially tearing the family apart.

There’s no easy answer to your question… Either the addict tells the spouse and (most likely scenario) the addict is left disgraced, the spouse heartbroken and the relationship/marriage destroyed (terrible if kids are involved), or the addict keeps it to him/herself and may or may not leave their addiction behind after marrying and growing busy with family life.

All I can propose is that anyone who’s engaged in porn shouldn’t be in a relationship to begin with, ergo there’s no need to tell every guy or gal you date that you’re a porn addict as some others have proposed. Sort out your own baggage first rather than dumping it on dates or a spouse later on in a relationship.
