morally you should stop cold turkey, because morally we are to avoid all near occasions of sin(going somewhere or doing something or keeping company with someone you know will lead you to sin)
but i do understand how hard it is, and you also have to just be patient with yourself, because God is and has been patient with you all this time, He knows that you can overcome all this, and it is by Him that you will, He has already led you this far, so have hope and just trust in God and always turn to Him in all your temptations and every other problem,
the only reason we fall is because we rely on ourselves to much, remember when St. Peter trusted in his own strength when he said “even though i should die with thee, I will not deny thee.” (Matt. 26:35). and only a little bit later he not only denied Jesus, but protested under oath that he did not know him,
but put your confidence in God like St. Paul, who said “I can do all things in him who strengtheneth me.” and then you will succeed, because it is not by you that you succeed, but by God,
St. Catherine of Siena when she was tempted always humbled herself and put all her confidence in God, and one day she heard the devil cry out in a rage “Cursed be thou, and cursed be he who taught thee this means of overcoming me.”
the key is not just trust and confidence in God, but also humility, knowing what we are, knowing we are nothing, and that we can do nothing without God except sin,
and so the first step before temptation is always to seek the help of God and His heavenly companions, and also seek His help even before temptation, as soon as you wake up each day, recommend yourself to God, put yourself in His hands and under His Mothers mantel, pray every day, especially the rosary,
well, as for some practical advice in overcoming this sin, along with every other sin of impurity,
first i’d like to recommend saying 3 Hail Marys every morning and night for the intention of purity and holiness, i have been saying it for over a year now, and it has yet to fail me(although i still have to try my best not to expose myself to things that i know will temp me)
another great remedy for lust is fasting, fasting is the most powerful tool against sins of the flesh and also a very powerful means of overpowering the devil(in ourselves and others)
but i would recommend reading up on that and talking to your priest about it before starting,
confession is another very powerful means in overcoming this and every other sin, confession(when done properly) gives you extra special graces in overcoming your sins because it is a sacrament, and without confession or the Eucharist it is very hard to resist sin because those sacraments give you the graces necessary to grow in your virtues and grow in love for God,
the virtues are another means of overcoming all your sins, because the virtues are the direct opposite of vice, and they are necessary in order to get to heaven, because they are what makes God work through you, who is all goodness and all love,
so practice all your virtues, but first practice humility, which is the foundation of all the other virtues,
there are many great books on the virtues to help you out with that.
another means of overcoming this sin is to just avoid the places you fall into it, which would be the computer right? of course i’m sure there are things on the computer you need to do, but there are other tactics to use so you don’t give in,
like internet filters for one, like
netmop.com/
and also having someone in the room with you when you go on the computer, or at least near enough that you wouldn’t do anything,
or try not going on the computer except when you need to, and then get off as soon as you’re none, because one big cause of falling into temptation is idleness, keeping yourself busy is always a good way to avoid this sin.
well…i think that’s enough for now, you should also talk to your priest about it, he will give you more advice, and just pray every day, in the morning, at night, and whenever you are tempted,
and if you have anymore questions i’d be glad to help.
ok, hope this helps, take care.
