OneTrueCathApos To what you stated, Soon you will see that the words of St. Cyprian is not the truth. Why? Because it is their “opinion”, and not words from The GOD MOST HIGH.

Once again I am not a Protestant.

…Well this thread was a storm waiting to happen.

I don’t like it when Catholics shove truth into people’s faces. We are called to share, not shove the truth.

Or as a friend of mine would put it, “I hate it when Catholics get all up in my grill.”

Allow me to quick jump in here.

Shai22,
you asked where someone would be without their church. I gather that you meant just the physical building/community. But as was pointed out, Catholics mean much much more when they use the word church; like a body, the church is both spiritual and physical (in fact it is a body, I know you’re familiar with scripture). They are so intertwined that problems arise when you try to separate one from the other (somewhat like the problems that arise with cartesian dualism). So if you’re not part of some physical body of believers or church (physical), you’re automatically turning away from the possibility of being apart of Christ’s true Church (because it’s a combo of physical and spiritual). I’m not going to argue about how spiritually connected to the Church you are and if it’s sufficient for salvation, as Catholics do not claim to know with certainty such matters.

I now ask this, where would you be without your bible?

Be careful that you’re not being deceived (in any way) by the Devil when you’re interpreting scripture. Now this comment might at first get a rise out of you and/or make you slightly angry, but that is not my intent. The Devil is more clever than we think. I’m not questioning whether Christ is present when you read the bible, just that He is teaching you infallibly what the scriptures mean and how they should be interpretated. You should especially question this in the light of the idea that maybe, just maybe, Christ did establish an infallible Church for such a purpose. If that were so, where would your role of infallibly learning and interpretating scripture from God be used, needed, desired? The above in red, might just be partly why the Protestant Reformation came about (not saying you’re Protestant); it seems to be an offense against rule number 1, humility.

If I misinterpreted your position, I apologize.

peace,
Michael

I quoted scripture, and now it is said that the scripture is wrong, how sad. This means that your bible is correct, and no one else can have a correct version of the same bible.

Regarding giving Peter the Keys to the kingdom in verse 19 Jesus is saying that Peter will reign in heaven with Jesus. Jesus is King of both Heaven and Earth [at least He is King to GOD’S people]. Peter carried the Truth, spoke the truth, lived the truth.

There are 2 ways of learning scripture, one way is the way in which you are learning, from other human beings. The other way is through GOD and allowing HIM to be your teacher. Scripture must be looked at through HIS eyes, not through your own opinions or the opinions of scholars or priests.

It seems as if you people are hungry for a debate which goes against everything GOD is. I won’t debate nor argue.

To the one that said she hopes I am listening, I also say the same to you. I pray to GOD that your heart and eyes be open to seeing and hearing the truth through HIS eyes and not others.

The world will see the power of GODS hand shortly.
hello shai - not all bible versions are accurate. i don’t know what denomination you belong to but as an example the JW’s bible in Jn 1:1 they inserted the “a” God, because they don’t believe Jesus is God. my question to you is would you say their scripture is correct? if you’re a JW, you’d say yes, otherwise, i think you’ll disagree. pls read the history of how you got the Bible you have in your hands. during Christ’s time there was only the OT septuagint version they used to quote from. the Gospels were written beginning 50 a.d. and because many other writings emerged including heretical writings, the Catholic Church in 4th century convened its bishops and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit came up with what books and letters belong to the New Testament. many Christians do not know how the Bible got into existence and if they would only find out, they may see the light and truth about the Catholic church. God bless.

** The proof lies in the fact that the Catholic church alone corresponds exactly to the exact religion established by Christ. Now, the Christian religion is that religion which–
a.) Was founded by Christ personally
b.) Has existed continuously since the time of Christ;
c.) Is Catholic or Universal, in accordance with Christ’s command to go to all the the world and teach all nations;
d.) Demands that all her members admit the same doctrine;
e.) Exercises Divine authority over her subjects, since Christ said that if a man would not hear the Church he would be as the heathen.

Now the Catholic church alone can claim–
a.) To have been founded by Christ personally. All other churches disappear as you go back through history. Christ said “Thou art Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my church.” Matt 16:18
There are many claimants to the honor of being Christ’s Church. But among all non-Catholic Churches, we find one built by John Wesley, another on a Martin Luther, another on a Mrs. Eddy, etc…
But the Catholic church alone can possibly claim to have been built on Peter, the chief of the Apostles, and one-time Bishop of Rome.
b.) To have existed in all the centuries since Christ
c.) That every one of her members admits exactly the same essential doctrines
d.) To be Catholic or Universal
e.) To speak with a voice of true authority in the name of God.

:highprayer: **
That doesn’t prove that the RCC is the true church, that just proves you believe that, which I believe is a opinoin, and I like people with opinoins. 👍

Jesus said in John 6:53ff “Truly I say unto you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, there’s no life in you. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood will have eternal life and I’ll raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is food indeed and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him.” Where can we partake of Jesus’ body and blood? In the Catholic Church. Amen.

God bless.

Wow, I find your commentaries very interesting and very Catholic at times.

Tell me Shai22, why do you claim to hear God and interpret God’s word from your liberty and personal opinions which you call truth, and deny or fail to recognize a Christian Saint who was alot closer to the apostles than you are, to not be truth? How do you know that Saint Cyprian was not giving a commentary from Scripture to support his belief, as you do? and yet you deny what God inspired St. Cyprian to believe and teach from scripture.

Maybe it was to your disadvantage that you were not given his complete commentary from scripture that supports his teaching not opinion.

If you want to find the answer or proof, look no further. It’s in your Holy Bible that you already have. I’m not gonna debate with you, coz you can seek the truth for yourself and you owe it yourself to find the truth.

Shai, welcome to the forums.

The following may be disjointed, but that’s because I’m responding to some things you said in different threads.

If you want to know what happens when our Church is torn down (so to speak), look at the history of Christianity. Catholicism has survived under many forms of persecution, from the early martyrs in Rome, right up to the present day in India. (Catholics are not the only Christian martyrs, by a long shot.)

You said that “church” also means “salvation.” Can you prove this? The only translation for “church,” the 91 times I found it used in the New Testament, is Strong’s G1577, which means “a calling out, i.e. (concretely) a popular meeting, especially a religious congregation (Jewish synagogue, or Christian community of members on earth or saints in heaven or both) :- assembly, church.” That’s from Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. (Lest you be overly impressed, I have Bible study software that has a great search engine. I didn’t re-read the NT looking for the word “church.”)

About Bible translations. There are three kinds: the formal equivalent (or, word-for-word), the functional equivalent (or meaning-based), and the paraphrase.

The Good News Bible is a functional equivalent. This makes it less accurate than a word-for-word translation. It doesn’t mean that the GNB is bad or useless. All it means is that it may miss some shades of meaning, and is more easily affected by the bias of the translator.

If you want an absolute word-for-word translation, try an interlinear. It’s kind of fun. Here’s Mt 15:15-16:
He-IS-sayING to-them YOU(p) YET ANY who ? ME ARE-sayING TO-BE

answerING YET SIMON Peter said YOU ARE THE ANOINTED THE SON OF-THE God THE LIVING
Again, welcome.

Blessings,

Ruthie

To Michael no apology needed.

To Answer your question about where I would be without a bible, I would be left to depend on GOD as I have been to help me understand what is important to HIM. I rely upon HIS truth, not the truth of any mortal being.

I can tell you that Jesus started me reading the bible, and he began with the parable of the Potter and the Clay Jeremiah 18. It was to show me what GOD was doing to me, molding me into who I should be instead of what I was.

Regarding the devil, you must have experience with him in order for you to say what you did. Those who are close to GOD always do.

My position as you call it here, was sharing truth, from the understand of GOD,no more, no less.

To the one who says that not all bibles are interpreted correctly.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by GOD and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living.

The Bible was inspired by GOD for the sole purpose of providing “people” a guide to the right way of living. How? By reading and applying the people’s of the bible experiences in their life. Ever hear the saying, “learn from my experiences, so you don’t make the same mistake”? The experiences that we learn within the bible is really 2 What happens when people don’t live in 'complete obedience", and what happens when they do. There are very few direct quotes from The GOD MOST HIGH, most of them are indirect because HE used Angels to deliver HIS messages or interpret visions to the prophets. The remainder of the bible are experiences from those who lived it, written from their own hearts and perception as to how it was at that time.

So to say that the scriptures are not all interpreted correctly, is because they are not being guided by GOD MOST HIGH, they are being guided by their own “opinions”.

GOD teaches that words are very important, they tell a story about the one who is writing them and we can learn a lot that way.

There are many words that have a double meaning in the bible, for instance death. There is a physical death and a spiritual death, so I do believe that church can mean something other than the building structure, but that is not what the original blog was about. Misinterpretations can be caused by muddy intent.

Hearing GOD is not from liberty and personal opinions. IT is truth and factual.

Sorry, I have seen no “proof” in my bible that supports a Catholic Church.

You said that “church” also means “salvation.” Can you prove this.

The foundation of the church was built upon Truth, and the Truth is the salvation, not the structure called church.

This is what Christ taught was the truth, about GOD MOST HIGH, and the KINGDOM.

"AND THE LORD ADDED TO THE CHURCH DAILY SUCH AS SHOULD BE SAVED" (ACTS 2:47) KJV
Note the singular “the church”.

But you are a Protestant. Anyone against the Catholic church but not for it, is a Protestant. You are P-r-o-t-e-s-ting the Catholic church…you don’t even realize it.

The interpretation of church in this scripture is “community”, or group. It’s not a structure “church” is the collective of those who believe the TRUTH, which is interpreted as teachings, GOD, and Jesus.

But you are a Protestant. Anyone against the Catholic church but not for it, is a Protestant. You are P-r-o-t-e-s-ting the Catholic church…you don’t even realize it.

IT is only through your negative “opinion” that you can say that.

I’m not protesting, I’m sharing the Truth. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not so.

In my opinion, if you want to use that definition you are sapping the historical meaning out of the word Protestant. Now exactly how far that term should apply historically, taking into account numerous split of splits, I don’t have a clear answer. Somewhere along the line “christian cult” hits the scene, but this is for labeling purposes and doesn’t help much when actually engaging with said individuals.

And since they don’t realize the protesting part (whether Protestant or not), labeling them such, especially against their will, doesn’t do seem to do much practical good.

Very well. But how did you hear of Jesus if it wasn’t through the Bible or someone who read the Bible? Maybe you don’t see the force of the question. Are you saying that you were, in effect, on a desert island and Jesus revealed himself to you, name and all?

Anyways. Since you didn’t want to talk about the implications of the Church as the body of Christ and a body as matter and soul (not cartesian dualism where you can have one without the other), I guess we’ll drop it. But the word “Church” is not the same as the word “salvation”. Words have meanings and we shouldn’t needlessly change them.

I guess I’ll leave one piece of advice. If I’m wrong in my presumptions just ignore it. Though there is a lot of disagreement and apparent confusion in the realm of Christianity, don’t be intimidated. Contradictory claims are being made in Christianity, but don’t be discouraged. Don’t give up and say they’re all wrong. Truth is not contradictory. And Christ wants a family, a real and living incarnational kind (not just spiritual)… not a “loner”.

peace,
Michael
