Yes, I would agree with you but… today very few people talk about this anymore because it is a non-issue.

Jesus spoke aramaic, there is no such distinction with the word rock. Simple as that.

Really, what’s wrong with Jesus building his Church on Peter’s confession and giving him the keys? Either way Jesus is giving him an authority that is unique.

I would ask anyone who is open to the possibility that the Catholic Church is Christ’s Church to visit during Eucharistic Adoration. Just visit, and pray to God to let you know if his body and blood is the Eucharist. Once that’s done and you’re still not convinced, go ahead and continue arguing on these forums. This is my hope anyways.

peace,
Michael
But would not that be idolatry for those that dont believe that the wafer has been magically transformed into the body of christ?

It is not by “magic” that this occurs but by the power of God. Are evangelicals “magically” turned into a “born again” christian? Is that “magic”? God is timeless and His sacrifice on the cross transcends time. As Cahtolics we believe that the Eucharist is the re-presentaion (transcending time) of the Lamb of God, Jesus. There is no magic in that only faith in the power of Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection.

In the first place no, because the Eucharist is the body and blood of our Lord.
In the second place no, because I asked them to pray during adoration, making no comment about worshiping the Eucharist. Think of it as closing your eyes and walking into a Catholic Church and then praying to God as you would normally do.

Matthew 16:18 indeed mentioned the name PETER and ROCK. But if we are to go back to early greek manuscripts, petra-πέτρα", rock in Greek, is used, while the name PETER is in its masculine form “petros” which means small stone. Thus, Jesus is not referring to Peter when he mentioned the term “rock”.

Now, if the catholic church is said to be laid upon Peter, then, it is not the true Church, for the Church to be true, it should be founded upon Jesus Christ himself who is the ROCK upon which the true church is built.

May the light of truth shine upon us all. God bless!
Unfortunately for your theory, Jesus spoke Aramaic.

And i humbly beg to disagree with the statement " Peter understood his role as the Rock, because we can see in the Acts of the Apostles, the apostles always go to Peter for the last word whenever there’s an argument or disagreement."

We can find proof in the bible that says otherwise. It is apostle James who issued the final statement to resolve the disagreement about the issue on circumsition to the gentiles.

Thanks.
Wrong.

James merely restates Peter, and he even makes it clear that he is quoting Peter.

The truth about the gentiles is provided directly to Peter from God in a vision.

If the Church assembled the “book”, then there is nothing wrong referring to that “book” because it will further prove that the Church indeed is the true one. However, if the Church is doing one thing, and the scripture is teaching another thing in direct opposite of the former, then something is wrong.

The truth shall set us free! God bless!
Nothing in scripture contradicts the teaching of the Church.

The scriptures do confirm the status of the Church, however.

But would not that be idolatry for those that dont believe that the wafer has been magically transformed into the body of christ?
The Truth is not necessarily related to your beliefs.

Regardless, praying to Jesus while before the Eucharist should not present a dilemma for you.

Simply attend adoration and pray to Jesus.

Don’t fight against the Holy Spirit.

(And don’t forget the words of Paul!)

29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.

But would not that be idolatry for those that dont believe that the wafer has been magically transformed into the body of christ?
God is “magic”!

St. Ambrose put it best:

“Let us be assured that this is not what nature formed, but what the blessing consecrated, and that greater efficacy resides in the blessing than in nature, for by the blessing nature is changed… . Surely the word of Christ, which could make out of nothing that which did not exist, can change things already in existence into what they were not. For it is no less extraordinary to give things new natures than to change their natures… . Christ is in that Sacrament, because it is the Body of Christ; yet, it is not on that account corporeal food, but spiritual. Whence also His Apostle says of the type: `For our fathers ate spiritual food and drink spiritual drink.’ [1 Cor. 10:2-4] For the body of God is a spiritual body.”

I do not debate nor argue the Scriptures, it goes against GOD.

1Corinthians 1:20 So then, where does that leave the wise? Or the
scholars or the skillful debaters of the world? GOD has shown that this world’s wisdom is foolishness.

Philippians 2:14 Do everything without complaining or arguing.

If you see it that way, then do not answer my questions. But you have seen questions that demand an answer, do not deprive yourself from answering them for yourself.

There is a difference between arguing the Scriptures and arguing with someone’s conception of the Scriptures.

And not answering such a simple question as “is Jesus God (singular)” throws up an immediate red flag to me and other posters. It reminds me of 1John and of not acknowledging Jesus come in the flesh. It is clear that you are not Protestant.

The above is a justification within your own mind to do what goes against GOD. Alot of people do this. When GOD says don’t, HE means don’t, not don’t this time or change the way you are doing what is wrong.

I disagree with your interpretation… I think it’s somewhere in 1 or 2nd Timothy where Scripture is said to be profitable for teaching, reproving, etc.

But to not argue with the Scriptures would also mean that you shouldn’t argue that Jesus is God (singular). And you haven’t said anything to the contrary, so trusting in your leadership, I will believe that Jesus is God (singular)… I’m trusting you; I hope you don’t lead me astray.

You are very tricky Michael. You can disagree with me it’s ok.

Not answering whether or not Jesus is GOD doesn’t say that HE is or isn’t. All it means is “i’m not answering”.

Don’t follow me Michael, Follow GOD.

The Scripture you are talking about is 2Timothy 3:16 and yes they are good for teaching and rebuking etc, but not for arguing.

Michael why don’t read about the 2 Creations I wrote about. It’s here in the forums.

Jesus did not found anything; I doubt he intended us to depart Judaism and its customs. Peter, Paul, and others helped lay the foundation for the Christian church (first known as Christians in Antioch).

Secondly, I very much doubt Jesus would appreciate what the Roman Catholic Church has often done in his name- maintaining political provinces, authorizing torture and murder of so-called “heretics” or non-believers who disagreed with that Church’s doctrine, and so forth.

Not very…Christian

Wow, I find your commentaries very interesting and very Catholic at times.

Tell me Shai22, why do you claim to hear God and interpret God’s word from your liberty and personal opinions which you call truth, and deny or fail to recognize a Christian Saint who was alot closer to the apostles than you are, to not be truth? How do you know that Saint Cyprian was not giving a commentary from Scripture to support his belief, as you do? and yet you deny what God inspired St. Cyprian to believe and teach from scripture.

Maybe it was to your disadvantage that you were not given his complete commentary from scripture that supports his teaching not opinion

Shai;
Hearing GOD is not from liberty and personal opinions. IT is truth and factual.
Response;
If what you say is true, why do you deny the Christian Saint Cyprian, who read the scripture and gave a teaching from it, yet your reading of scripture overrides the Saint who died for the Christian faith to which you have been given?

I might check your post out.

Arguing/Dialogue is a form of teaching.

I confess, I’m not going to trust you; especially if you don’t believe Jesus is God. I’m pretty sure if you believed so you would have answered me and said so, at least out of charity.

Anyways, the Bible is full of references to the Church, whether old or new Israel (for fun, look at Revelation). Christ established a Church. The Church is the body of Christ. A body is soul and spirit intimately intertwined. Ignoring these things is to not only to make light of the Incarnation, but not to give justice to the text, an inspired text that is aparently not obvious to everyone because of the so many denominations that have issued forth. What is the worth of the Bible to you if you don’t acknowledge the one who it is primarily about, page after page… the Logos, the living Word of God (that also is God, see Gospel of John intro). Jesus. You’d be possibly missing out on THE relationship, the greatest love adventure there is, at least in one dimension.

I would seriously question if I esteem myself so much that I would receive infallible revelations from God of how to interpret the Bible. Humility is the foundation of wisdom.

Reason does not have to be sacrificed for the Truth! For the Truth is fully rational. Persevere!

Michael

Really…? Where to start? If you believe in the Bible you would know that Jesus founded a Church. If you don’t, then you should be aware that the Catholic Church from its outset has always claimed that Jesus founded it. If you don’t believe in Jesus…

Would Jesus very much appreciate all the great and wonderful things that the RCC has often done in His name? Be fair… although I’d question your accusations of culpability for torture of “heretics”… culture, politics, etc. It’s not as simple as you paint everything to be.

Gabriel 12. I pray that Gabriel is your real name, and that you have not taken on a name of the Great Angel Gabriel. To do so goes against GOD’S command.

To Answer your question about denying the Saint. I’m not at liberty to fully explain but I can tell you that you will fully understand why I said that in the future.

Regarding the saints. I personally do not believe in saints. The only way that a person is given the name saint is if the Vatican Beatifies the person for the great works they do while in the earth time. GOD, nor His Anointed Son Jesus Christ, has given the authority to the Vatican to give that honor to anyone. Beatification is not a Command or Law from GOD, it is a tradition that the Vatican has taken upon itself.

To Michael

I confess, I’m not going to trust you

I never thought you trusted me in the first place. Your recent posts shows you are not trustworthy, using different methods of machinations to try to get an answer.

Regarding the John 1:1 It reads In the beginning the Word already existed, the Word was with GOD, and the Word was GOD.

Interpretation In the beginning the TRUTH already existed, the TRUTH was with GOD, and the TRUTH was GOD.

The Truth is both GOD, and HIS Anointed SON Jesus Christ.

To believe otherwise, is believing that the Old Testament did not exist, when GOD THE MOST HIGH was the only TEACHER that the people had.

GOD gave us “free will” Michael, You have the right to have the kind of relationship you choose to have with GOD as you wish, as well as I have the same right. I choose to walk close to HIM, and you choose to walk from a distance.

Once a man asked me to ask GOD what the Truth is.

GOD said, " Truth is the faith we hold within our hearts, that when we are silent we can hear it be spoken, guiding those who seek to know who I AM".

Look in your heart Michael, there are doors there that you haven’t even opened yet. Don’t be afraid to get to know HIM. Calm your ego because it has no room to play where GOD lives, and teaches.

Don’t trust me Michael, it makes no difference to me.

I am sorry, but this is a gross misunderstanding of the Catholic definition of sainthood, the meaning of Canonization, and the process by which a person is officially canonized a saint by the Catholic Church.

I also wanted to respond to your comment that there was no Church in the O.T. That is also simply not true, and both the New Testament Scriptures and the rich and well documented history of Judaism give witness to that fact.
