The first recorded use of the word Catholic is in
St. Ignatius of Antioch’s letter to the Smyrneans, paragraph 8,
of 107 A.D., “Where the Bishop appears, there let the people be, just as
where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.”

It is very likely the word Catholic was used before this; And it is very likely St. Ignatious knew St.John the Apostle :hmmm:

Peace, onenow1 . 🤷
Herein lies the problem: The word “catholic” is probably the most misunderstood word in any language. If you say “catholic” people tend to get offended by the very word. Yet it is the defining mark of Christ’s Church. But again, it cannot be accepted because it is seen as exclusive in terms of Christianity. It’s really an adjective as opposed to a proper noun. It’s funny how this was not insulting until folks decided it was. It used to be a general way to describe Christianity as a whole.

I follow GOD, not organized Religion.
Would you follow God’s religion if it was organized?

How do you know you are following God?

What authority assures you that you are interpreting scriptures correctly?

Don’t other Christians believe the bible teaches different truths?

Why are you right and they are wrong?

Knowing of course, that the Apostles would not live forever, and that His Church would continue until the ‘end of time’
(Mt 28:20), Jesus Christ made provision to pass on the authority from generation to generation…

Matt 28 : 18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the consumation of the world.

Peace,onenow1 🙂

It’s pretty much that simple. And yes, folks (even Christians) are going to loose their ability to be charitable when their faith in God and the way they practice it are challenged and sometimes insulted. I believe Christ lost his charitable-ness at times.

[Christ never did such a thing, he got angry because people were disrespecting GOD MOST HIGH, and his Anger is justified as being justice] GOD teaches that anger with justice is right, but anger with emotion is wrong]

[IF the catholics are feeling they are being challenged, they should have thought about that when they opened this forum to all people.]

TRUTH doesn’t have to be “defended”. Why would anyone have to defend their “religion”. Why is it that people view this blog as negative, instead of productive? Could it be, because there are people who simply disagree with catholic tradition?

I follow GOD, not organized Religion.
May I ask what it is about organized religion to which you hold such animosity?

To Chester

Would you follow God’s religion if it was organized?

{GOD isn’t about a religion Chester, He is about a people who live in complete obedience, as HE taught in the Old Testament.]

How do you know you are following God?
[It’s a knowing that you have through experience Chester. GOD teaches
much differently than any human being, because HE teaches scripture through
HIS understanding, not from tradition. Many people read the bible and see conflict,
Within the bible, the scriptures are not in harmony with each other. GOD teaches us
How to understand and know that it’s not conflict, instead it’s a misinterpretation.
For example, some people including Christians and catholics believe that Paul’s writings are from satan. This is the farthest from the truth. You can read his account in Romans 7 where he discusses his struggles with staying in the spirit. Paul was brilliant to discuss this to give us this example. In Romans 8 Paul stresses the importance for us to live in the spirit and not our human nature. If you read 1st and 2nd Peter, you will find a completely different writing. You can tell through Peters words that he always lived in the Spirit, he was much closer to GOD and Jesus, than others.]

What authority assures you that you are interpreting scriptures correctly?
[The only authority I have I GOD]

Don’t other Christians believe the bible teaches different truths?

Chester, that teaching different truths is where the confusion and problems started.
There is only ONE TRUTH, ONE INTERPRETATION, and that is GOD’S. Through GOD we learn who knows the truth and who doesn’t.

GODS people are not different Chester, they are all the same.

GOD builds bridges to bring HIS people together, to stand as ONE PEOPLE under the LIVING GOD.

satan divides. arguments and debates divides, it’s scriptural Chester.

Your perspective is very interesting. At any rate its also classic, for this is nothing new. Throughout the ages man had this perspective. And this man’s perspective will be here 'till the end of time. It’s the gift of Free Will to man from GOD.

GOD is classic. You are correct about Free Will. People can choose to follow GOD, or their traditions.

Respectfully, could you use the quote button? The posts are getting a little confusing. 👍

**It seems you may have some strange aversion to any kind of organized religion. But on the subject of the catholic Church insomuchas it is “organized religion” and is the One True Church, what is it about the catholic doctrine that is in conflict with the way YOU individually interpret Apostolic Tradition? **

Also, what makes you as an individual able to discern God’s intent for you. In other words, you believe God’s will for you is to not participate in “organized religion”. What gives you that idea?

This is a test, did it work?
Yep! And please don’t take my post above as “snooty” I am genuinely interested in your answers. I’m not challenging you to a debate. I will take your answer as the end of it.

I was taught as a child, growing up in a Baptist Church about the Trinity, one God, Three persons, The Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit. I was taught by organized religion many other truths that most likely would have taken a lifetime of study to understand on my own.

Thank God we have organized religion just as they did in the old testament. Organized religion gave you the Bible to study, the credit for that goes to the Catholic Church. The NT tells us not to forsake joining together for worship. When we join together to worship, it becomes organized religion.

There may be one Truth, but when christians are left to interpret the Bible individually you get 40,000 different interpretations as that is about the number of protestant churchs we have now.

I’ve never heard that St. Paul’s writings were the work of satan.

To SHIA22, Do you attend any kind of worship service?

First and foremost, I do not take your questions as being snooty. You are one I know that from within your heart, sincerely loves GOD, and chooses to do what is right to the best of your knowledge.

All churches are organized, but they are not organized by GOD, it is done through the earthly hierarchy, not the Heavenly hierarchy. IF it was, there would be one church and that church would be of Truths, Laws and Commands. GOD is ONE LIVING GOD, not many, therefore there is ONE TRUTH, not many. However, having said that, there are many levels of that one truth, and GOD teaches how to see the truth in all people, if there is any.

You asked what makes me an individual who can discern GOD’S intent for me GOD showed me! GOD’S WILL for me is to love and speak the truth as HE has taught me. To have compassion, and pity for those who don’t live the truth. People using their free will can either accept it, deny it, think about it, or ignore it. It doesn’t stop me from telling GOD’S truth.

I hope I have answered your questions fully.

God knew that there would be confusion, so he gave us a trustworthy interpreter.

For some reason, you seem to lean on your own understanding above the understanding of those chosen by God.

There is no agreement among protestants on doctrine because there is no authority.

God didn’t start your church.

Do you think God wants his followers to be confused about what is true?

Why is there such confusion outside of the Catholic Church?

There is confusion everywhere including the catholic church.

You have free will chester, you choose as to what you believe, but you will find through the power of GOD, very shortly now about what HE thinks about ‘religion’. I pray HE is merciful.

I pray that you are strong enough to understand, and not one of the many that will fall because of it. It’s time that people wake up from their sleep and be accountable for their actions, and have the opportunity of standing as ONE PEOPLE under the LIVING GOD.

The Catholic Church has unity of doctrine on faith and morals.

We have consistency in practice and beliefs going back to the time when Jesus established the Church.

Don’t fight against the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The Truth is waiting for you!🙂

I say the same to you Chester. GOD will rebuild HIS Church, and this time it will be on a firm foundation, called Truth. This church will teach HIS LAWS, HIS COMMANDS and HIS TRADITIONS, not those of a human being.

Learn to TRUST IN GOD Chester, and GOD will set you free of all that binds you down in chains. Rely upon GOD directly, not GOD through a human being.

May GOD judge you with love Chester, and not the same love you have judged me with.

It’s easy to maintain unity when everyone who disagrees gets kicked out (or in years past, killed).

I believe you are referring to excommunication. Excommunication is self-imposed. Christ did not give us a democracy where we have a comittee to sit and vote on doctrinal acceptance. If an individual disagrees with the Church, they excommunicate themselves. If you read the New Testament, you will find that it is a very Biblical principle, supported by recorded history.

I won’t give comment on the parenthetical portion of your non-response, as it does nothing except demonstrate that you have no interest in contributing to this thread in a productive manner, but rather shows your desire to lurk in the shadows and wait with baited anticipation for the opportunity to exploit any comment as an opportunity to promote your Whore of Babylon agenda. The only thing I can offer is an observation that your understanding of Apostolic Christianity and Christian history appears to be no deeper than teh 6 or so pages of a Chick Tract.

If you have what you feel is a legitimate point to discuss, please start another thread about it. If you have something PRODUCTIVE to add to this discussion, I would love to hear it. If your sole purpose is simply to derail this thread with your assertions that the Catholic Church is satanic, pagan, anti-Scriptural, “unsaved”, not Christian, or whatever other ignorant and malformed opinion you have, then please refrain, because I for one am weary of seeing you try to derail an otherwise (mostly) pleasant dialogue.

God Love You and your weird station in the past.
