Hi all

I recently bought a gorgeous bracelet off of eBay. It’s a silver charm bracelet that has 14 different saint medals on it and a 4 way cross. I absolutely love it. The minute it arrived I ripped it open and put it on and didn’t take it off for a while.

Now comes the weird part. I like to think I’m a sensible person and not given to histrionics or anything, but whenever I was wearing that bracelet, I would get AWFUL images in my head. Some sexual, some violent, some just plain disgusting. And they would pop up out of nowhere…like I was having dinner with my fiancé and his father, and all of a sudden I had this image in my head of me beating them both over the head with a mace. I wasn’t even mad at either of them!

I got my priest to bless the bracelet and since then the images have stopped. But is it possible that Satan or his demons got a hold of this bracelet and tried to use it against me? Is it even possible for them to possess inanimate objects? I was just so scared by these images. I mean, the most important thing is that they stopped, but I’m still slightly wary of the bracelet.

Yes, it’s possible. Perhaps the bracelet was made by (or has been in the possession of) someone involved in occult practices that invited Satan. Curses can be attached to certain objects.

There are also certain pagan religions (e.g., santeria) that make use of Christian symbols but assign meanings to them that associate them pagan beliefs.

Having the object blessed was a good idea. If that put an end to the evil images, great! If the problems return, you might want to get rid of the bracelet (and destroy it so it doesn’t cause problems for someone else).

Not neccesarily. Saint Medals are usually blessed and the bracelet you have could have been annointed in Holy Oil if you bought it from the same vendor I bought ;mine from.
A more probable answer is the closer you move towards Christ, the more the devil is out for you. You could call upon St. Michael or Our Blessed Mother at every instance where you are being picked on by the devil.

I agree, the reaction was more likely one against you using a holy object to discourage it. Perhaps because it was merely images and not blessed beforehand, the reaction was the more able to be pronounced.

One generally should expect resistance before and from doing something that is truly good.

Excuse me for intruding on this interesting conversation I hope I don’t go off topic. This comment made me think of my husband. I was wondering whether this applies to us too?

My husband and I are catholic, I am a practicing one he is not but he does support my endeavors towards moving closer to Christ and does come to church with me and our children.

Over this last year I just started coming back to the church, and praying alot, praying with my kids, praying the rosary, etc, (in fact I get the feeling the Lord is trying to tell me I’m not praying enough).

We are also having our marriage blessed (validated). Well one night we were having a disagreement, it was about our intamacy and how I think we need to stay chaste until after we are validated since I am not allowed to take the Sacrament of Confession and Eucharist. Well…he went away a little upset/annoyed, after we mended our differences he confessed he was getting evil images in his head of zombies, or something like thatetc.

I immediatly thought the worst like he was possessed or his video games/tv were. But then upon deeper reflection and prayer I was getting the feeling that was the reason because we are moving closer to Christ.

In fact, knowing this makes me want to work harder to strengthen our marriage through Christ.

Oh this is very typical. 🙂

But we must not be afraid, we must trust in the Lord through the trials of the spiritual life.

Do not be weary of the bracelet.

Your priest has blessed it and you should trust in the Lord that this blessing has the backing of the Catholic church.

Often times, even if someone tells you that a particular religious item is blessed and they sell it to you… it becomes necessary to have it blessed again, because there has been an exchange of money for the item.

I would echo what others have already said - that it is likely that your endeavours to come closer to Christ are causing you to be more open to attack from evil forces. This of course is a scary thought but as mangy dog just pointed out, you can trust in the Lord - you are on His side, and He on yours.

For me it has always stood to reason that it’s people who are moving closer and closer to God who are more open to attacks from satan; for those who keep God at arm’s length - at a safe distance - they are already within easy grasp. It seems to me that the devil would be more concerned about those whom he is most likely to lose to God than those who are within easy reach.

Persevere in prayer and do not be afraid - I believe that the St Michael prayer is a very powerful one to use. St Benedict is often called upon by those who are feeling tempted or under attack from the devil. And don’t forget the greatest and most powerful prayer of all - Holy Mass.

<<But is it possible that Satan or his demons got a hold of this bracelet and tried to use it against me?>>

The demons don’t need a bracelet to tempt you. This is nothing but superstition.

<<Is it even possible for them to possess inanimate objects?>>

No. Again, this is superstition.

One or the other of the penny-dreadful supermarket tabloids had a headline about a “demon possessed hammer” that was sent to Rome to be exorcised. What nonsense! But there are gullible people who will accept this as truth.

Demons can infest or be associated with particular objects, especially those used for occult purposes.

That said, one should not typically be concerned about a blessed saints’ medal. On the contrary, any demonic activity associated with those is because they are annoyed you have something holy with you which makes their work more difficult.

If you are having no opposition in your life from the devil… generally it is because you aren’t opposing the devil with what you are doing.

And that should -not- make you feel comfortable and happy, even if you feel comfortable and happy. 🙂

“Do not be despondent when fighting against the incorporeal enemy, but even in the midst of your afflictions and oppression praise the Lord, Who has found you worthy to suffer for Him, by struggling against the subtlety of the serpent, and to be wounded for Him at every hour; for had you not lived piously, and endeavored to become united to God, the enemy would not have attacked and tormented you.” St. John of Kronstadt. 🙂

If I may; it is no more superstitious then blessing yourself with holy water. God doesn’t need holy water to bless you either, but sacramentals are still used because they point to Christ. The devil, however, imatates God, and so it makes perfect sence that Satan would use physical objects to point away from God.

…and I was just getting used to being happy!!

Thank you Shin,

this is very true about infestation of objects or places. I believe our friend needs to frequent the Sacraments especially frequent Confession followed by Communion.

It is known that a good Confession is more powerful and effective than any exorcism.

Hi Shin,

I agree about resistance, but to me the kind of mental assault the OP had seems excessive for simply wearing a bracelet of saints’ medals. Because of the severity and tenacity of this attack, and the fact that having the bracelet blessed put a stop to the mental images, I tend to think the item may have been cursed.

When priests bless Holy water, they say a prayer of exorcism to drive evil spirits out of the salt and water.

Fr. Gabriele Amorth, chief exorcist of Rome writes about demonically infested buildings and objects in both An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.

I’ve read both books and found them very informative and timely to the age we live in. I also recommend: Interview with an Exorcist by Fr. F.X. Shouppe.

It has a very simple Q&A format that is easy to follow and reference.

Unfortunately, I’m still in RCIA which means no Sacraments for me until I get baptized and confirmed at Easter.

I appreciate everyone’s (name removed by moderator)ut on this thread. I’m still wearing the bracelet and it’s ok now, which I am certainly glad for!

Well, my first thought was otherwise, and that we don’t really have enough information. It could be many things. But what you said made me look further.

I decided to look up on ebay ‘charm bracelet saints’ and there is one called ‘New Orlean Saints’ and so, if we took a look at the seller that provided this on Ebay that might clue us in, if they’re New Age, provide non-Catholic stuff too, or Voodoo oriented then we could say yes that was the most likely thing. Apparently there are some providers on Ebay who are bad sources where one might suspect this.

Even calling it a ‘charm’ bracelet is a bit of a bad way to name it, though I don’t know if that has become a harmless connotation or not for women’s jewelery. ‘charm’ certainly isn’t something one would normally call a saints’ medal.

If the OP wants to show us who provided it and give us a good look at it we might be able to judge the probabilities more, or judge them on her? own.
