Possibly Leaving the Church. Help Would Be Much Appreciated

For but one example of many, here are the effects of a devout reception of the Holy Eucharist:
  1. Deepening our union with Christ.
  2. Increasing and renewing our supernatural life.
  3. Cleansing our souls of venial sins, both guilt and penalty.
  4. Strengthening our soul to resist sin in the future.
  5. Deepening our love of God and others.
  6. Joining us more intimately with the Church - the mystical Body of Christ.
  7. Directing our concern for the physically and spiritually poor.
  8. Impels us to Christian unity to pray and work for the day in which all Christians will believe in and receive the living Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
Who would voluntarily leave this? If some person, either in the physical or spiritual realm, incited us to consider leaving, who would that be?
 
Yep, you will have to decide on whether you accept the authority of the Church or your own authority regarding interpretation of Scripture and the acceptance or rejection of extra biblical teaching. Doubt is normal regardless of being a Catholic, Protestant or atheist…most of us will never be free from doubt this side of eternity…
 
We can’t do it by ourselves … which is why we pray to the saints … to get their special help in appreciating God’s special gifts. Remember: He is INFINITE … and we need help to figure out what works for us.

Just remember: Don’t make any big decisions when you’re depressed, or when you are feeling spiritually dry. Stick with a reasonable program.

Usually I’m all for talking about study and prayer…but it sounds like you have been doing lots of that. Maybe it would help you to do some service projects. Sometimes you can see Christ’s face more clearly that way.

At this time of year, there is usually a lot of stuff going on with food banks and Christmas presents for the poor, or visiting the sick and elderly. It doesn’t have to be a big thing, but anything can help. Seeing other people’s problems can sometimes clarify your own. Doing something joyful like going caroling can be a real faith booster. And even if you don’t “feel” any benefit, the Lord will reward you for doing His will.

Of course, there’s always fasting and/or abstinence! Advent is a penitential time of year, and we’re almost there. But don’t do anything unusual or big. (Like I said before about big decisions, times of depression or spiritual dryness are not good times for big gestures, either.)
 
Consider this: without that authority-that gift to humankind- how can we be certain of much of any of the truths of the Christian faith? We certainly can’t rely on the bible, because sincere people, scholars alike, disagree on the meaning of Scripture all the time, often on critical teachings. So unless someone can be certain of having an infallible interpretation, which people and churches claim all the time without admitting to it, assured as they are in their correctness, then the doctrine of Sola Scriptura (using Scripture as the sole norm for determining the truths of the faith) is worthless. There must be an authorized singular voice where the buck stops-and logically that voice can only come from antiquity, from the beginning, speaking from the vantage point of a continuous lived experience. Anything else is pretty much speculation.

Gasp! They have this? I have the Politically Incorrect guide to Western Civ and American History and they are great. Might have to look into it.

Yet the contents are very sophisticatedly written.

For example …talks extensively about the papacy and the idea of infallibility … 10 different pages.
