Then an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah standing at the right side of the altar of incense.

Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. (Acts 16)

This oil painting shows the apostle Paul casting the “spirit of python” from the slave . It is outside the Basilica of St. Paul in Rome

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. (Acts 16:25)

The Crucifixion of Saint Peter by Caravaggio. It is based on John 21:19. The tradition is that Saint Peter was crucified on an upside down cross.
Truly, truly, I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. And after He had said this, He told him, “Follow Me.”

So I’ve always been fascinated by Mary Magdalene. Luke 8:1-3 describes the following…
The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuck, and Susanna, and many others, who provided from them out of their resources
Based on this Mary is often depicted as penitent and wealthy. This painting by Domenico Tintoretto around 1600 shows her as a very beautiful woman. Tradition says she can turn eggs red! 🥚 🥚 🐰 🐇

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)

So I really like this one of The Risen Christ Appearing to Mary Magdalene by Rembrandt (1638).

From John 20:11-18

“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it is was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for? Supposing him to be a gardener…

Jesus is depicted as a gardener here. I like this. It shows a sense of Joy and Humor in the most important human event ever. Two good friends meet (Mary Magdalene and Jesus), Jesus has just risen from the dead, she is the first to see him, and Mary’s reaction is something like “Wait a second…you’re not the gardener”. I’m sure Mary and Jesus laughed about this!

1 Peter 1:6-7 “though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
