The document, which the new Pope presented on behalf of his colleagues at the time and signed of on, referred to abortion and communion, said "we should commit ourselves to ‘eucharistic coherence’, that is, we should be conscious that people cannot receive holy communion and at the same time act or speak against the commandments, in particular when abortion, euthanasia, and other serious crimes against life and family are facilitated. This responsibility applies particularly to legislators, governors, and health professionals."

It really makes me wonder what would happen if Biden presents himself to receive at the Installation Mass on Tuesday.

Interesting, after this photo was taken, Pope Francis did choose the traditional sash-thingy worn by both predecessors (sorry, no Catholic words today…)

Im joining the Catholic Church in a couple of weeks, so I was really interested in who was going to be Pope, as it would be the first time the Pope was “mine” ( I hope you understand what I mean by that!) Everything I have read about him has been great! I look forward to seeing what he is going to do and say in the future. I am excited by this new journey!::extrahappy:

The traditional sashy thing (:D) is a stole. And it does have a traditional Latin name as well. It is a sign of the office and Pope Francis wore it during the blessing.

I am praying he does not make a spectacle of himself. However if he does, I hope that he is given a blessing and goes back to his seat!

So visibly conscious of his own limitations. Not impressed by the glamour of papacy at all.

First thing he does as a Pope: to pray for the previous Pope.

Second thing he does as a Pope: to ask people to pray for him.

I felt almost like he was levitating above the crowd in the moment he was at the balcony. Almost as if his conscience were sitting 20 miles above, with God, and saying to Him:

“Look how happy they are, Lord, help me to do a good job, please.”

SAINT FROM THE BEGINNING. There is no other way to describe Pope Francis.

Welcome and I can share your excitement as Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was elected shortly after I joined the Church. So like you with Pope Francis he was “my” Pope although I adored and revere Blessed John Paul II as well. Pope Francis is already such a blessing for the Church. I pray he will be with us for many years to come.

I, too, will be in full communion in a couple of weeks and I feel exactly the same way - my Pope! Aren’t we lucky ducks?? 👍

A young priest who is in Rome and blogging passed along Pope Francis words today about age. There is a thread regarding the desire for a “young and liberal” Pople :eek: so I will pass this along there as well. I thought this was such a lovely reply to those who have commented on Pope Francis’ age. BTW this young priest will be distributing Communion at the Installation Mass. He is feeling very blessed!
