So far…I think he’s great! I will be watching with great interest and hope.

I’m no stranger to riding the bus and I’d have to say that it’s an experience that helps define a man I can admire.
However, I do believe that our Catholic religion has become too ostentatious …
on Ash Wednesday half the population in our shopping center had black crosses on their foreheads.

Also washing and kissing of feet is something totally disgusting to me and I do wish we could drink the blood of Christ from plastic cups as I’ve heard that Methodists do.

I don’t think that he will ignore them. That could prove to be fatal. No pope can micromanage the Church. It’s too big. He needs the curia. At the same time, he will not resolve every issue either.

He has to make a list of priorities and tackle them one at a time until the good Lord calls him home. The situation with any government is that you fix one thing over here and something breaks over there. You never have such a thing as a perfect government machine.
 
Yes, I already love and respect Pope Francis…He has renewed my deep love of the Catholic Church too. 🙂

I think the point is that we have heard so much about how the bureaucracy itself has slowed some of the work of the Church, when it comes to communication and evangelization. Since the latter seems like something he is committed to, I just wonder if he might be interested in not continuing with the status quo (in that regard).

If by the status quo you mean keeping the same people in their current posts, he may make some radical changes. If by status quo you mean eliminating some dicastries, I don’t foresee major changes there. He may combine some or create two out one to make it more efficient. We’ll have to wait and see.
 
I just joined the forum tonight, and this seems like a great place for my first post. I can’t wait to see what our new Pope brings to the Church and the world!

I think that if people pay close attention the first thing that he’s saying to us is to focus on Christ, not on the things we want.
 
Watched the white smoke during breakfast (NZDST), lingered on till I heard who it was, and before he had had a chance to utter a word, I had to set off to work. But I was full of inexplicable, irrepressible joy, which surprised me since I hadn’t a clue about him.

The last time I felt so full of hope and delight was at the election of Pope John XXIII - and back then I was in my early teens and not even a Catholic!😃

I do love this man, and the more I learn the more I know the Holy Spirit was at work - as always, of course, and I’ve loved and respected all the popes I’ve known.

But Pope Francis fills me with hope and excitement in a unique way.

Yep, and he’s already signaled that both by words and deeds. 🙂

People might be -]surprised/-] shocked 😃 if Pope Francis puts Christian Spirituality ahead of every other task of the Church.

Imagine: no “political” agenda. Imagine: thwarting every prophecy by the New York Times and the rest of the lamestream media.

Instructing us toward greater holiness? Nah…😉
