The following are not Portuguese (except the last one), I just think they’re lovely:
(I found them on Google, but when I tried to upload URL it keeps saying “error” - invalid file…)

the first two are in the US, 3 and 4 are from Ukraine, no 5 is Spanish (I think) and the last one is Portuguese

This one looks like a thatched roof cottage. Maybe Trogdor will burninate it.
Oh, that is the famous Notre Dame du Haut, in Ronchamp, France. It was designed by the architect Le Corbusier. If you think it looks ugly now, imagine how it looked to people in 1954. :o

Here is a link with multiple photos, inside and out:

I think it looks awesome! Any shots of the interior?
Of course, La Sagrada Familia is still under construction. But here is a photo taken above the main altar:

First is my own parish church.
It is rather sterile, coming from 2006. And then a close up of the one of 3 stained glass windows. It is the one right above the tabernacle.
Then it is St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh. It is breath taking. Very Gothic. Very ornate. And the Sanctuary is all marble. The stained glass is amazing.

I really dislike some of these newer churches. Some of them are just really ugly. I honestly prefer a traditional looking church.

I posted a week ago about a statement I made to a neighbor when he asked if I ever went to Mass at the neighborhood Catholic parish. I explained to him that based on the way the church looked from the outside I had no desire to step foot in the church.

Here’s a picture that doesn’t do justice to how truly ugly this church really is:

Several responded with shock that I could be so ‘judgemental’ for not even trying to assist at Mass there. Of course I’m not being judgemental, just prudent.

This morning, I was traveling and visited the Immaculate Conception church in Fortt Smith, Arkansas. One of their front doors was absolutely breathtaking.

(Also, as a side note - yesterday after mass, I told Father at my parish that I was going to Arkansas for the Memorial Day weekend. His reaction? “That should take a couple of years off of purgatory for you.” I adore my priests.)

I also loved their statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that was next to their tabernacle.

I’m surprised I like it because it seems a little dark.

I’m discerning between 2 parishes and the problem I have with one is that the lighting is poor.
It seems so from the picture; but what the photograph doesn’t capture is how golden the whole thing is. It’s made for British weather, after all, and it’s not that often we have gloriously sunny mornings 😃 So there’s plenty of gold paint at the back, along the columns and pediments, and picking out the details of the halos and rays in the paintings. The gold + candlelight + morning sunlight (such as it is) = a soft, golden, diffused light.

I love St. Paul’s Cathedral! 🙂
Same. When I was there I could barely concentrate on the bishop! I was so enraptured with everything around me!

Same. Being a new convert, I haven’t been to too many churches in my area. I always thought mine was pretty. But now seeing these pictures, I think of it as plain.
Those churches in Portugal are amazing.

That picture is awesome. I hope the rest of the church is that pretty!

Nevermore

Pittsburgh is a town with a lot of great churches. Holy Rosary on Kelly St. is pretty impressive too, as well as Immaculate Heart on Brereton St. which reminds me of St. Peter’s in Rome and it amazes me how they were able to perch it up on such an impossible lot.

Visited Hereford Cathedral yesterday, not a catholic church anymore of course but The Lady Chapel and The Shrine of St Thomas of Hereford are beautiful
