I think this is the most profound way of looking, understanding and living out our moral obligantions. Always remember, that bumb on the street corner is Jesus. If you don’t love him like you love Jesus, then you’re failing right here.
 
There are so many, each day i find inspiration in a new passage.

my favorite is in my signature, read the entirety of John 6 for deep inspiration!

Today Romans 5:2-5 touched my heart; "Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us."

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

Mine’s in my signature too. 😃 It’s the idea that God will finish what He started…that even if I blow it (and Lord knows I’ve done it more than once!) He’s not going to give up on me.

This snippet of 2 Cor 12:9 has been a favorite for some time because it’s comforting especially in times of distress.

When things seem to be going wrong–🤷 Jeremiah 29-11 I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you…Plans to give you hope and a future.
When questioning something :confused: John 2:5 Do whatever He tells you.
When discouraged–Psalm 90 Fill us with you love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!:extrahappy:
 
Here is mine, Not a verse, but a passage. From Mt 22: 34-40

34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, " YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ 40 "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."
(bolding mine)

I love this passage because it provides THE source of understanding for the rest of the Bible.
Every part of our life in Faith, and our journey toward God is rooted in Love.
St Paul clearly says the same thing in 1 Cor 13: 1-13 where he speaks of the excellance of Love and ends with these words,

"But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Who could ask for better instructuion than this, or a better way to live ones life?

James, I think Fr. Barron was writing this to you and others who chose that scripture:

"IT WAS A COMMON PRACTICE in Jesus’ time to ask a rabbi to identify the central precept among the hundreds of laws that governed Jewish life, to specify the canon within the canon that would serve to interpret the whole of the Torah, Sometimes, to assure succinctness and brevity, a rabbi was compelled to offer this summary while standing on one foot. Thus Jesus, in accord with this custom, is asked, “Rabbi, which is the greatest commandment?” He gives his famous answer: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. The second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

All of religion is finally about awakening the deepest desire of the heart and directing it toward God; it is about the ordering of love toward that which is most worthy of love, But, Jesus says, a necessary implication of this love of God is compassion for one’s fellow human beings. This is my favorite Bible verse because of the institution of the Eucharist, the very center of life of every Christian. Receiving or Lord, the best feeling, and the most perfect sacrifice ever taken place.

This is a wonderful thread! Thank you so much, Rwillenborg, for starting it! I know this will be a rich source of inspiration!

I have far too many favorite Scriptures to list here, so I will follow in the footsteps of sjg4Him and post one that really touched my heart this morning: “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand” (John 10:28). Like your verse, Dmccormack, this verse is just perfect for meditation during Eucharistic Adoration. What an incredible privilege that I can kneel before the presence of the One who spoke these wonderful words!!!
 
My favorite passage would be Romans 8, 35 -39:

NAB translation “35. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Trial, or distress, or persecution, or hunger, or nakedness, or danger, or the sword? 36. As scripture says, ‘For your sake we are being slain all the day long; we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered.’ 37. Yet in all this we are more than conquerors because of him who has loved us. 38. (emphasis mine) For I am certain that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future nor powers, 39. neither height nor depth nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God that comes to us in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”

There’s several reasons I love the truth in this verse. First, it’s reassuring to me. Second, it reminds me of the persecution which the church and her saints has, and still does in some places on this planet, suffered and endured. Third, it names many supernatural beings, who will not be allowed to keep Christ from us. Mainly, fourth, I am so in need of good love.

Here’s a couple from the deutrocanonical books:

"But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace." (The Book of Wisdom 3:1-3, RSV).

'The mother was especially admirable and worthy of honorable memory. Though she saw her seven sons perish within a single day, she bore it with good courage because of her hope in the Lord…and said to them, "I do not know how you came to being in my womb. It was not I who gave you life and breath, nor I who set in order the elements within each of you. Matt 25:40 (I’m paraphrasing) “Whatever you do to the least of my brethen, you do also to me.”

It’s a nice reminder not to so quickly overlook the homeless man on the street corner or not to shun someone who’s not as attractive, wealthy, able-bodied as you. (not YOU, but the collective you). I think we tend to view ourselves as the center of the universe. Some people only associate with those who look, dress, think, act just like THEMSELVES and judge everyone around them by their own standards. It’s one thing to ‘avoid bad company’…people who reject Christ’s teachings on morality. But it’s quite another to add our own standards to that. For example, the Church teaches modesty in dress. Some people add their own version and perceive that to be, “we must always wear skirts and whoever doesn’t always wear a skirt is a heathen and far below my own holiness.” Does that make sense? Anyway, I like Matt 25:40 because we’re to try to see Christ’s face in everyone…the biker, the homeless man, the woman in jeans (gasp!!) the handicapped. It’s not just all ‘show’…we need to be sincere.

…and yes, I need this reminder like everyone else…Jesus loves the ones who pump things up and act like snobs, too. That’s a toughie to remember but we can only try!! 🙂

Psalm 122—I lift mine eyes until the hills , where does my help come from, my help comes from the lord the maker of heaven and earth.

I Love this one because ut reminds me of my total dependence on God who can give and take away. it also aknowledges he is the Lord of Heaven and Earth.
