Colossians 2:12

It doesn’t matter what He throws at me, even when I am not happy with Him (often)…as He is a tough Master to serve in this life…there just is no other option

How about two, one verse and one passage:

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:32

“Full authority has been given to me both in Heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. And know that I shall be with you always, until the end of the world!” - Matthew 28:16-20
 
psalms 42:7,8

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
 
Jeremiah 29:11

My family and I have had a grueling year and this verse keeps cropping up! Even now, when I opened my Bible (not recalling the chapter or the verse) I opened to the correct page. Coincidence? I don’t think so, at least I hope not!
 
Rom. 12:2

“Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God,
what is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Reading through the passages all have taken to heart brings me to tears. Everything is so beautiful and meaningful. It is hard to settle on one.

The one passage I have chosen caught my attention decades ago and reminded me to judge whether what I’m paying attention to is actually accomplishing the renewal of my mind.
 
GALATIANS 3:13-14 & 29: Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree. 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Commentary: The curse is clearly listed in Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 as end as being … “poverty, disease and destruction”.

The Blessings of Abraham are also listed in these chapters as … “health, prosperity and success”.

This means that Christ gave us the RIGHT to these Blessings and we do NOT have to take vows of poverty or view disease as a “blessing” from God. It’s always good to see what the Word says about something, right?

This too is my favorite Bible verse, but the citation is John 2:5. (Along with the verse below, I have it on my checks and end my Treo e-mails with it!)

My other favorite is Mark 10:15, “Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.”
 
i like how everyone has their own particular taste and circumstances in life that have led them to choose a particular verse to be their favorite. for me there is one that stands out, and i would think that it means the same for everyone as well, but obviously everyone is different,

My dear Andruschak - You wrote me a private email in answer to my favorite scripture which is Galatians 3:13-14. Based on what Christ and the Apostles said, I already know for a fact that God DOES NOT ask anyone to take disease or poverty into our person. Case in point …

John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal, KILL and destroy. But I have come to give them LIFE ABUNDANTLY.

Isaiah 53:5: He was wounded for our transgression and bruised for our iniquities…and by His stripes we are Healed.

Please be advised that this is the difference between us Protestants and you Catholics. We have learned the difference between Satan - the murderer of mankind - and God our RESCUER.

So, my dear, thank you for your response to my fave scripture, but I already know that God would never “ask” me take on a work of the devil … when clearly He needs me alive, strong, healthy, happy and prosperous … because Laborers are few … and God receives no glory from the dead.

If Christ promised health, prosperity and material success then why were the Apostles so poor, miserable and persecuted in every imaginable way???

Why did Paul in fact say ‘now I rejoice in my sufferings’ (Col 1:24) Here’s a clue - same verse states that Paul’s sufferings ‘fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh’.

True followers of Christ are called on to share in his sufferings above all - to ‘take up your cross, deny yourself [deny what? material comfort and success, obviously] and follow Me’ - as well as his glory. To fail to do so is to lay up your treasure on earth and not in heaven. And when you die you will find that you have already had your reward - here - and failed to gain any heavenly merit.

There is no work of the devil in taking up one’s cross, and taking it up voluntarily. In fact Christ commanded us to do so. He said ‘WHEN you fast’, not IF. Fasting is a necessity for anyone who would follow him, and it is only the Catholic and Orthodox churches that recognise this and make it mandatory.

And he didn’t just say ‘bear’ your cross, he said ‘TAKE IT UP’ - that means to do so willingly.
 
John 10: 11-18.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.
