The Precious Blood is not to be poured into separate chalices during the Mass. This has been beaten to death ad nauseum by both the Holy See and the USCCB.

Then someone like Roger Cardinal Mahony comes along and says “Because our practice has become an Archdiocesan custom of over seven years, with both the Catholic faithful and the ministers accustomed to this practice, I am willing to grant exceptions to no. 106 of Redemptionis Sacramentum…” So the pouring of the Precious Blood continues in that archdiocese.

Does anyone here really know where the buck stops on what appears to be such a cut and dried matter? Can bishops ultimately do as they wish, no matter what the Holy See directs? I would appreciate having this explained to me by someone with real insight.
