Practicing gay catholics shouldn’t receive communion, so why do they? How do they justify what is written in scripture as lucid as can be about it being wrong and yet somehow find it justifiable that they can receive communion.
How do you know who is, and who isn’t, a practicing homosexual?

And heterosexuals who engage in sex outside marriage also receive Communion. The issue is the same.

The infallible argument is an easy way for conservatives to resist evolution of Church thinking. What a Pope said 200 years ago on a given subject might not be relevant in today’s world.
Pope Francis believes that there should be no homosexual marriage, and that children should be prevented from being adopted by gay couples. This is our new pope, not 200 years ago but right here and now.

These are the teachings of the Holy Spirit -they are not confined by the boundaries of time. 🤷

Like how the earth is 6000 years old and is orbited by the sun. People used to burned at the stake for suggesting such things. It is now accepted by the church. Things change. Even within the church.

Dear Rabbitthekitten, your view on the Church’s infallibility is simply wrong. And I mean factually wrong. Read, e.g., the Wikipedia entry on the Magisterium. You’ll be amazed 😉

If you afterwards think it shouldn’t be that way, you might rather feel spiritually at home in a Protestant group.

If they are in a loving relationship I don’t see the problem. Many won’t agree, but that is their prerogative. I just can’t accept that love is sinful.
Them being in a loving relationship has got absolutely nothing to do with it.

If someone is having sex outside Marriage then the Church teachings maintain that they are in a state of mortal sin. If that sin has not been repented of and confessed, then that person (be they homosexual or heterosexual) should not receive Communion.

If however a homosexual couple are in a loving, celibate relationship then there is no problem with them receiving Communion. This is also the case with any unmarried heterosexual couple.

It’s not that love is being discriminated against, in fact I think there is no wrong in two or three or more men living together all loving each other -as long as there are no immoral lustful tendencies involved. The sex act is meant specifically for a married man and woman.

I just have the ability to think for myself. This does not make me Protestant. I don’t believe Catholicism is about being told how to think. I think it’s shocking that you’re even suggesting to someone to leave Catholicism and join another religion.

Besides, I live in a Protestant country and the Protestant churches are even more sex obsessed than the Catholic Church.

It’s only been infallible since 1870. And was not infallible when it made the decision to become infallible. I don’t know when the teachings about homosexuality date from but I guess it is pre-1870.
The teachings against homosexuality were present among the Jews God’s chosen people. So this teaching of God is ancient, and yet no less true for mankind today. God made man & women for each other, “be fruitful and multifply.”

Modern man has bought the lie, “I was born that way!” Scientificly this is a falacy, however there is overwhelming evidence this is learned behavior. Yet our culture encourages, and promotes this unhealthy life style. There is immense pressure on boys who are gifted with effeminate characteristics to become gay. They are not allowed to be a man with different interests. They are labeled gay, and expected to behave as such.

Would we accept the lie, “I was born that way.” From a mass murderer, or jihad extremist, or seriel rapist? Gender Identity Disorder is a condition where by a young boy doesn’t have a man to pattern after, and learn how to become a man. Or if he hears the messege, “I hate men!” He may fear loosing his mother’s love if he allows himself to become a man. Children usually develope the skill of gender identification from 1-4 years of age. Most learn by 2 years of age which gender they are, and begin to pattern after the parent of their same sex.

Many boys are indoctrinated into the homosexual life style through pedophilia.

That is simply wrong and quite frankly bigoted.

That was never an infallible doctrine of the Church though. It was just a traditional theory.

I don’t see how people who are in a loving relationship hurts anyone else. Whether they are gay, straight or whatever. I think the most important thing is to be in a loving relationship, just sleeping around, I don’t think that is particularly healthy. But how can two people in love be classed as sinful? I know this is not a widespread view in Catholicism, but I just don’t understand how love can be wrong.
me too, a committed relationship may very well be a better way to live than a willy nilly one…I don’t think that any religion (in the US) should be forced to marry homosexual couples, nor should they be sued, however if Gay couples want to marry and they belong to a Church that will marry them it’s okay by me. I am okay with civil ceremonies as well.
The Catholic church may be interpreting the Bible in such a way that would prohibit it from sanctioning and performing Gay marriages, and that’s fine, but they shouldn’t waste their time on this issue because there are bigger problems to be resolved. I don’t see Pope Francis changing this position but he certainly has shown love and kindness to the Gay community which sets an example for all of us.

You can certainly think for yourself. You can certainly question Church teachings. What you can not do is ask the Church to change their teachings to meet your own thoughts on the issues, nor can you ask other Catholics to think differently than what the Church teaches. The Church teaches that a homosexual engaging in a practicing relationship (and I’m going ot assume you mean sexual relationships) is a sin. Being homosexual is NOT the sin, the act is. The Church is not going to change on that issue no matter how much you think or wish it would.

I always thought Christ taught us to be loving and tolerant. Not to judge others. Not to condemn others and to accept everyone. I also don’t think the obsession with some in the church with sex is particularly helpful. I sometimes wish as God grants us all the gift of further enlightenment, some people in the church could keep up.
I love (sarcasm noted) how the word tolerance has been hi-jacked to mean “we should indulge people in their sinfulness so that we don’t hurt their feelings.”

Donkey dust! If you truly want to live the Catholic (and not catholic) faith, you will understand that Jesus did associate with sinners, as in today’s Gospel. But, let’s not forget what Jesus commanded in the same Gospel: Go and sin no more. Too many of us tend to forget this last line. Being truly loving means to NOT affirm someone in his/her sin. Our job is to help lead them to their eternal reward in Heaven.

Telling any Catholic (regardless of their views) that they should perhaps leave the Church is a very serious matter, and my understanding of the Church’s teachings is that to tell someone to do this is to be guilty of a sin (and possibly a grave sin).

You have said you don’t understand why the Church condemns homosexuality, so instead of questioning a Church teaching whose rationale you don’t understand, you should take the time and read some of St. Thomas Aquinas, and about natural law…instead of second guessing 2000 years of Church teaching. That’s hubris. Morality judges feelings, not vice versa!
Thomas Aquinas was a brilliant man with great ideas but he was a wordy writer who didn’t express himself in a user friendly way.
It’s never hubris to challenge and question any organization that professes to be the path to our Creator, in fact, it’s a responsibility of the Seeker not to just accept anything that’s presented. If the position of the Church is valid, it will stand alone without people chiding the questioner for having questions, if it is not, it will fail.

Shocking?! Do like believing in things your Church does not believe?! Do you enjoy doing violence to your own conscience by being part of a Church whose teachings you find offensive?! I used to be a Protestant, but when I realized that I believed in things the Catholic Church teaches but which the Protestant groups where I come from don’t (e.g., sanctity of unborn life, importance of sacraments, virgin birth etc.) I simply could not stay a Protestant in good conscience. I did not, however, think it was my job to transform the Protestant “church” into the Catholic Church from within. That would have been both absurd and dishonest.
So why do you find it offensive to actually think about what you truly believe and then take the necessary steps?!

I believe in what Christ taught us. As I said before:

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. - John 8:7

Is it moral to ignore Christ and cast the first stone by condemning gay people?

Is it moral to condemn God’s creatures? After all, he made them gay, it’s not a lifestyle choice.

Many orders in the Catholic Church encourage free thinking. I wish that more people indulged in it at times.
Can you show evidence where the SSA is a lifestyle choice solely? I don’t think that has been firmly concluded. Nobody is condemning the SSA individual…people are condemning the actions. And the quote about casting the first stone, you are forgetting that Chris also implored the woman to “go and sin no more.” Finally, about the (religious) orders that encourage free thinking, some of these same orders are the most dissident in the RCC. Free thinking does not entail ignoring 2000 years of inspired Church wisdom. That is pretentious.

The Church is infallible.
Rome has spoken the matter is settled…right?

And for the OP: Many people in all sorts of mortal sin receive communion because they reject the Church’s teachings. They don’t like the rules. But we should focus on how we should recieve more worthily and how to promote love of Christ in the Eucharist rather than focus on why specific people recieve who shouldn’t. Public sinners should certainly be denied the Eucharist but as the laity we can only do so much about that. Pray for those who recieve unworthily, Pray for Catholics who recieve worthily that we all may do a better job
👍👍👍
Beautifully written.

Catholicism does not tell you how to think…it instructs you on how to live a charitable and moral life and gives you a pathway to Heaven. I have to agree that your thinking falls more along the line of many Protestant religions.
