Will you be vigilant in reminding the many Protestants who visit this board of this
“fact” when they begin their rants against “Romanism”?

I don’t recall seeing you speaking up on this previously…
I agree… with Randy Carson, this is a Catholic message board ya know… I mean gee… :o

Sounds great.
So you would accept as “essential” everything Augustine would accept as essential?

Chuck
Ask Augustine. "In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, In all things charity."

I have never seen that behavior from James White. Have you ever seen the very cordial debates with Fr. Pacwa? I submit that you have no basis for this shameful attack.
His demoralizing shamefully goes on behind the scenes, James is well known for harassing Catholic aopologists, bombing them with e-mails, challenging them to debates and if they do not give into his wishes? He publicly shames them saying they were to cowardly to debate him! Do you consent to this? it seems that you may be perhaps going down the same road.
Sooooo, anti-protestant apologists are not debate junkies? If he is right, how is being strong in his convictions and the delivery of the message affect the veracity of his claims??
A debate addict is someone who cannot let go, it’s an addiction to adrenaline and not about love friend. Harassing and publicly shaming, demoralizing are all very bad fruits, Catholic or non-Catholic. If any one of claims to follow Christ sees this happening
they have a moral responsibility to try and bring that person in line with scripture I do not care if it’s James White or someone here at CAF.

Mocking someone instead of simply debating the truth in LOVE with GENTLENESS has nothing to do with Christ or the Gospel, it’s simply from the carnel mind and carnality leads to division, division is derived from the word “diabolical” to tear asunder people created in the image and likeness of God should not be mocked or made fun of.

**
Your basing decisions on how someone says something, not on the contents of WHAT their saying?
**
No…you say you appreciate his adherence to scripture, he’s simply focusing on one aspect of scripture or ignoring much of the moral teachings which have to do with the heart, remember love is a greater virtue than faith and hope, if someone claims to be a teacher of Gods word but fails to exibit love and respect should that person be teaching?

{quote]I certainly dont want to conquer you. I pray that the Lord would do that.

My heart is totally His brother, no worries there…
Can you really see into his heart and assume his motives? I see his zeal in lifting up God and Scripture and defending orthodoxy. How should one feel when error is being spread as truth even without malicous intent? I would certainly hope you can back up your assertions about deciet, guile, malicious slander. I do not think you can. Please dont fall to the pot calling the kettle black.
It’s not about peering into his heart, James White has been shamefully and “publically” promoting his attacks for years and he’s quite proud of it. I question your honesty in this matter but, perhaps you are a very new sappling disciple of James White and stiil quite innocent in these matters?

If you really want to go through the hassle of collecting all of the hate mail James White has spewed over the years we can do that, it would probably take another thread though and it actually sounds quite dull to be honest.

Peace of Christ to you,

Absolutely correct. I’d include all of the reforming “fathers” in those “false teachers” each had his own individual error, or many errors.
Yes indeed, Gnostics and Arians as the record goes…

In your almighty opinion perhaps… Why aren’t you posting over at Internet Infidels Forums…since that is a forum specifically for unbelievers?

C’mon that just doesn’t hold true Atemi. Most of you posts at CARM are in the Catholic forum and then you come here.

Talk about silliness…No… really? And that is perfectly fine. If people don’t want Catholics praying for their conversion to Catholicism then there’s a really simple way to fix that.
**
Stop hassling Catholics and trying to convert them away from their faith!**In your rather highly biased opinion… Hang on. Lemme get out my “concernometer” and check it. Nope… the needle failed to budge even so much as a micro-give-a-rip.😃 I rest my case! This is in your scholarly opinion. Do you personally know all these “literally got millions of Catholics in the world”? If not you have just made (another) rash generalization. How is that remark justifiable?

Who said that? Nowhere in Catholic teaching or belief is such bunkum. You misrepresent what the church teaches and then make an outright untrue statement! When I think we need the help of someone (namely you) whose doctrines are not in line with either the New Testament or the writings of the early church to help us evangelize our own sheep then I’ll give ya a call.(but don’t hold your breath.)Gee… don’t kill yourself responding with substance. I know that interferes with your rhetoric and propaganda, but it helps in the truth department.😛
Where is it written that your personally held beliefs are more valid than mine or any other Catholics? I don’t see you evangelizing much of anyone, especially here where you crank out misrepresentations of Catholic teaching and make judgments of Catholics who post here while I bet there are people who sit in the pews of your own church who talk a good game and aren’t half the believer that most of the Catholics on this forum are.

Regardless… I don’t know if you are concerned about those people that are closest to you. I can’t tell from your efforts here.

So don’t try to justify your propagandizing here at CAF. About the only thing that you have going for you (IMV) is that you are at least a great deal less of a jerk than most of the so-called Christians on your other favorite forum.:knight2:
Amazing… What a blessing you are:D

Church Militant has been here for years. His large font has become a familiar and welcome signature of his writing style. You will get used to it…and you may learn some things too! 😛
Amen:thumbsup:

True…but when there is so much scripture that validates Catholic belief as opposed to n-C beliefs that have only been around for some 500 years or so, the Catholic Church buries the cases of n-C interpretations.

Where do the scriptures say anything of Mary’s assumption? Where do we see anyone in scripture praying to her or any believer who had died?
Or how about indulgences and penance? Where is it taught in the NT?

Or that Peter was ever referred to as a pope i.e. the only leader of the entire NT church?
First off… nowhere in the Word of God does it say that everything that Christians believe has to be spelled out in the Bible. In fact there is a very substantial case for Sacred Tradition that is made in the Word of God.

I’m sure you didn’t mean “Scripture is able to guide one to the truth”, did you? That statement goes against Scripture.
So you really think that we are NOT able to find the truth in God’s Word? And show me where it goes against Scriptures.

His adherence to scripture? Doe not the scripture say, "let your gentleness be evident to all"?
According to my former pastor (Earl Palmer, formerly of Berkeley First Presbyterian Church, now with University Pres. in Seattle), the word is normally translated “gentleness” should be translated “unflappableness”. I.e., exhibit grace under pressure.

You know I love this stuff.

Let’s see any other Christian denomination can (and does) teach anything they want. And their still good to go.

But everybody’s sure that darn Roman Cult got it wrong for 1500 years and folks need to get out of there just as quick as they can.

Chuck
It didn’t become a false system overnight. Little by little, until God finally said, “Enough!” and reformation broke out all over the place.

I’m sorry, but this does not compute. It is not charitable to insult one billion Catholic Christians…regardless of his subjective conclusions.
From his perspective (and mine), it’s not an insult.

Well an uninteresting and inaccurate assertion on your part, but this doesn’t answer the question at hand.

Why is it that your so sure what the Catholic Church teaches is wrong and needs to be changed, but protestant churches can teash whatever they please and they are all just fine and dandy?

Chuck

One doesn’t reform a marriage by filing for divorce.

Reform was happening within the Church before the Protestant “Reformation.”

🙂

So, are you saying the RC church is not a “Bible Church”?

In, say, 50 AD, what did “bible churches” believe about the New Testament? Did any New Testament churches exist yet?

I think the proper response to your question is that the Bible is a RC book, not the other way around.

I’m not a theologian or an apologist, but the whole “who’s right?” argument is really very simple to me: How do we know what is true? If the bible is infallible (and I believe it is,) what good is biblical infallibility if there are no infallible interpreters? If all we have is the bible for authority and we’re left to our own devices as to its interpretation, then how can we ever have assurance of understanding any truth? Sure, one can say that we’re not left to our own devices - that we’re under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. But then how does one account for the numerous denominations, groups & individuals that are God-fearing & honest who claim to follow the “bible alone”, yet all believe different things about scripture? Are they all under the guidance of the Holy Spirit?

Most of us aren’t smart enough or wise enough to comprehend many spiritual realities on our own. If God has left it to each individual to try to discover what His true intentions are by pouring though scripture and listening to a host of contradicting authorities, then He cannot justly hold us accountable for any erroneous beliefs. Put another way - if there is not some infallible authority on earth that can explain & define truths where we have assurance of authenticity, then EVERY belief system is likely severely flawed; or at least we have no sure way to know thout ours isn’t, and we’re wasting our time defending what essentially amounts to be nothing short of pompous personal opinions. I have a very hard time accepting the premise that our Lord and King had this plan in mind.

James White, et al, may be personally assured of the rightness of his arguments. He may even have some convincing arguments - but so do 1000 other conflicting, yet logical sounding opinions. I, for one, have no plans to spend my life navigating though the fog. I’ll bank on the one that holds the keys, with the power to bind and loose on earth and in heaven. If that one isn’t right, no-one is.

So you really think that we are NOT able to find the truth in God’s Word? And show me where it goes against Scriptures.
I never said “we are NOT able to find the truth in God’s Word”, as you suggest.
The first church, its growth, doctrine, and practices, were recorded for us in the New Testament.
Not true. The Bible does not record the entirety of the Church’s history, doctorine and practices. It was never intended to. Not even all that Jesus said and did was recorded, so no (John 20, 30; 2 Cor 3,2; John 21,25) , the Bible is not all there is. The Bible is indeed the Word of God. It contains no error. This does not mean ever person understands it without error (Acts 8,31). Again the Bible comes from the Tradition of the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church was not founded upon the Bible. Remember which is the “pillar and ground of the truth”, it is the Church, not the Bible (1 Tim 3,15).

Sure.
So is every verse in the Bible essential?

Chuck
Not all verses carry the same weight. For example in John 11:35 it says “Jesus wept”. Knowing or not knowing this has no impact on salvation Compare that with 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 which is an essential fact that a person must believe.
