So, this is a famous quote from St Padre Pio.

How relevant are saints quotes now we are nearly in 2017?. I’m guessing people still had problems in their time, but not as much as we do now, with cancer, financial problems, population increasing etc etc.

If I had cancer, how could I not worry???.

The extended quote is, “Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.”

What sticks out for me is “Worry is useless.” If you had cancer, how would worry help you in that situation? It would not cure you, nor would it mitigate your suffering, nor would it calm your fears. That was true in times past, and it is true today.

Trusting in God’s mercy, trusting that he will grant you the grace necessary to endure in your difficulties, is the true source of interior peace. 🙂

Edited to add: My heart goes out to anyone reading this who does indeed have cancer. Please be assured of my prayers for you. :signofcross:

I really like that quote and will have to remember it.

My sister, who is two years younger than I am (57), was just diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this week. We know nothing more than that other than the doctor said it’s been there for about 1 1/2 - 2 years. We are waiting to hear from them when they set up an appointment for surgery and will then see what the results are and what the next step is.

I would appreciate your prayers please.

P.S. I lost my brother, who was two years older than me, four years ago to small intestine cancer which had spread throughout his body.

I’ve had cancer three times now, been at stage IV twice, have had 8 chemotherapy regimens involving 17 drugs, total body irradiation and have been effectively killed so as to receive a blood stem cell transplant. I am now fighting rejection issues and staring at even more treatment. I am delighted to be anywhere. All of this is not my doing, but the grace of God that I have received. To pray, hope and not worry is the most sage advice that one may receive.

Do we actually believe in what we claim to? That is the crux of the matter.

Answers are more easily found in the presence of our Lord at adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
