Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Thanks in very large part to your prayers, many of the health issues I have been dealing with for the last few weeks have cleared up with the help of medication that my doctor has given me. But I’m still dealing with horrible panic attacks that strike multiple times during the day and night. What makes these so unusual is that my mind really seems to turn in on itself. I worry that I’ve got a neurodegenerative disease, I start to feel like I’m on autopilot, tears come out of NOWHERE…I’m still able to carry on conversations with people but it’s like I don’t understand what I’m saying at all…and then it subsides and I feel lucid again, but exhausted. It’s really getting scary. Panic attacks are a curse. And doubly so because so many bizarre diseases initially manifest themselves with psychiatric symptoms. :banghead:

Pray that I make it to a parish where I can receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick tomorrow afternoon. At this point I truly believe, as I should have believed all along, that Christ will save me through this conduit of grace if He wills it. Pray for the parish receptionist, that he or she will pass my request along to the priest early enough in the morning that he’ll be able to make time for me. Thanks.

I ask Jesus to ensure you can get to the Anointing of the Sick tomorrow. There are no word to express enough compassion, but I pray God will help you, and ease your symptoms, dispel any false fears, and help you towards a flourishing life. God grant you peace of heart, mind, and soul. Bless you, Trishie:grouphug:

Hey Catholic Nerd,
I’m praying for you and for the panic attacks to subside. You should check with your doctor about any medications you may be taking. Sometimes different medications (even vitamins) can cause panic attacks. Often it can be something like hormones.
God Bless,
Pam

Go in your bible, open the Psalms, and underline every verse that brings ease and comfort to your mind and soul. REMEMBER “Believe and you shall receive”… words of our Lord Jesus to the apostles.
Know in every fiber of your body, that Gods’ Love is as true and loyal to you, as it has been fo every prophet, apostle, saint, martir, etc…Know in every fiber of your-self, the strength, loyalty ant Truth of Gods’ love for you.
It is what has helped me scare away depression and anxiety. I had to chage my frame of thought, and give all the belief of my thought and feelings to the True love of God for me and all the truth of the Gospels. When I started to do this, fear and anxiety where the ones running out of me in fear 🙂

Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou among women
and Blessed is the fruit of Thy womb Jesus
Holy Mary Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

I second this great advise. I know first hand that some meds can cause weird side effects. I was taking something once and I always felt that something was out to get me! Wierd huh?

I ask our Heavenly Mother to intercede for you to the Holy Spirit to come down upon your house and bring the comforting Grace of our Father and the Tender Mercy of our Savior Jesus Christ to bring an end to these feeling you are having.

God Bless,
Paul

hey - been there. Panic attacks and anxiety are THE WORST.

Dear Lord, please give the OP peace so that he/she may overcome these debilitating panic attacks.
Amen.

Very true!

I also find that when I’ve been really stressed (especially after being sick) I tend to have panic attacks. They usually go away in a few weeks if I take very good care of myself. So take care of yourself

and

I’m praying for you :crossrc: :gopray: :crossrc:

Thank you so much for your prayers. I had three attacks yesterday, but I was spared one before bed! I’m about to hop on another flight and I do feel the makings of another one coming on. Keep up your prayers, warriors! I need them, and as always I offer these sufferings for you.

You are definitely in my prayers. I suffer from both depression and anxiety and truly, if I had to choose, I’d take the depression. I understand your feeling that your mind is turning on of its own accord, that your body is off on its own tangent. It’s scary and frustrating in addition to the attacks themselves.

I’ve noticed, as another poster mentioned, that after being ill, they seem to come on, and then they do subside after awhile. And I was once taking meds that didn’t exactly give me panic attacks, but made me feel completely wrong in my own skin… got off those ASAP.

In addition to the good spiritual advice from other posters, I’d try to get some exercise outside if you can. I find that being in nature – plus the endorphins from the exercise – tends to help. I do have meds to take in case of a major attack (mine usually come early in the AM and wake me up), but I try to keep them as a last resort. Still, knowing I have them on hand helps to keep the attacks at bay somehow. I hope you can get the Annointing of the Sick soon, as well.

Prayers coming for you.

Francesca

Thank you so much. I’m writing in the midst of an attack, and I think I understand that I’m beginning to understand what agony feels like. It’s comforting to know that Our Lord really and truly felt it too, and in a measure far greater than anything I could possibly even hope to bear. I’m being worn down by this, and I think my wife is too.

Perhaps it would not do me well to wait two weeks to see my doctor, as he did say it would be fine for me to get in to see him sooner if these attacks and waves of depression persist. I’m fearful that this may be something pathological, but I understand the need for the “watch and wait” approach to things. Afterall, I have been through a wave of “major life events” that cause stress. Marriage, the loss of a pet, the loss of a friend, being dismissed from school for a partially unjustiable reason, being absolutely unsure of my place in the order of creation, being rejected by a major health insurance provider (ironically on the grounds that I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety)… as I prepare to start a low-paying job with no benefits so I understand that this all really could just be related to that.

But for me to have managed so well, with God’s grace, for so long and to suddenly just snap (for lack of a better word) is really out of place. :hypno:

I’m off to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy now. Pray for me, and pray that my wife’s mounting anxiety will be relieved. Thank you so much!
