Hi Everyone,

I was hoping someone on the forum can shed some light on my experiencing. In the past I haven’t really ever prayed the rosary partially because I was never really taught how. Lately I’ve been experiencing a strong desire to the pray the rosary and am learning how. I really started in full force this last week with the 40 Days for Life Campaign. I am very prolife and have been praying the rosary in front of the clinic. (I’ve done vigils before, but adding the rosary is new).

The first day that I prayed the rosary I said an entire rosary in front of a clinic (which was amazing for me since I more or less hadn’t really prayed the rosary seriously before). Anyhow, that went great. I felt so at peace. The rest of my day was horribly hellish. Seriously, everything that could go wrong did. I had a major delay at the mechanics which cost me lots of money, really stressed me out, and used up hours of time I didn’t have almost leaving me without a car for the rest of the day.

The minute I got home and had riggled free of that mess, my parents needed my help with a financial crisis that occupied my time for hours more, and left me stressed and frustruated. There were numerous other little things that happend as well. I barely finished with that in time to pick my 12 year old sister in law up from school so I could take her to pray the rosary at in front of a clinic in the afternoon. Both the car and the billing crisis almost prevented me from doing that.

Am I reading too much into it, or is my starting to pray the rosary related to the no good horrible terrible rotten days I’ve had?

Despite all these things, I am happy to say that I’ve been able to keep a really positive attitude and not loose my cool. That in itself is a minor miracle since I’ve been struggling with anger and depression for the last few months. I’m interested to hear what others who may be more experienced with the rosary and prayer life in general think?

St. Teresa of Avila’s line to Our Lord, as her carriage got stuck in the middle of a mucky river and she had to get out and walk comes to mind: IF THIS IS THE WAY YOU TREAT YOUR FRIENDS, IT’S NO WONDER YOU HAVE SO FEW!!!

Seriously, though-- this has never happened to me with the Rosary. I have, however, had lots of awful things happen prior to my trying to do something I knew to be spiritually beneficial.

Getting away on retreats, especially-- no matter how prepared I think I am, countless things, large and small, always, always crop up, go wrong, break down, throw fits, etc. right as I’m trying to “make my escape.”

I’ve always just assumed that the devil doesn’t want us doing the things that will strengthen us in the grace and love of God. He throws up obstacles ahead of time, or tries to complicate things afterwards, in order to sidetrack us.

The fact that you were able to keep your cool in the midst of this seems to me to be a real fruit of the Holy Spirit. Keep it up, girl! This must be how Our Lord wants you to be growing in holiness right now! 👍

I usually pray the rosary everyday, and yeah, i have bad days as well.
But, dont worry, all these little things can be counted as sacrifices to God.

you says, “Despite all these things, I am happy to say that I’ve been able to keep a really positive attitude and not loose my cool.”

Just imagine you had not prayed the Rosary that day, how would you have dealt the situation differently? worsen perhaps?

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta said:
The fruit of silence is prayer.
The fruit of prayer is faith.
The fruit of faith is love.
The fruit of love is service.
The fruit of service is peace.

Keep praying the Rosary, Red Meg.
One rosary a day keeps Satan away … indeed.

If I remember the story right from one of Father Corapi’s talks…

Once a woman asked Father Corapi to pray for her to be closer to God. He did and she came back to him a week later and asked if he prayed for her. He said yes. She said, well everything has gone bad, (she lists several things that went bad) so God must not have answered! He said, no my dear, He has answered and you are being made purer (cf. Heb 12:7-11 and other Scripture detailing the various sufferings of the Christian).

So maggiemary, I think you have grown closer to God, even though you may not know it at this time. Not only that, but the devil may be displeased that you have taken up the Rosary and is attempting to discourage you from continuing. Do not fall for his trickery. Perhaps when you pray, also include a prayer to ask for God’s mercy in your sufferings. You can also ask the Blessed Mother to watch over you when you pray and that your prayers be made pure and with humility through her intercession. 🙂

And if you continue to suffer, ask for help in your affliction. Your own prayer or perhaps something like this one asking for comfort from our Mother. 🙂

do you seriously think none of these problems and frustrations would have arisen had you not prayed that day? I doubt it very much. But if we pray in the spirit of “Okay, God, I’ve done my part, now what can you bring to the table?” we mistake the nature of prayer, which is first and foremost to conform our minds hearts, and wills to God.

It has been noted that you never meet the devil when you are travelling in the same direction he is.

Note Sirach 2
My son, if you come forward to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for temptation. * 2 Set your heart right and be steadfast, and do not be hasty in time of calamity. 3 Cleave to him and do not depart, that you may be honored at the end of your life. 4 Accept whatever is brought upon you, and in changes that humble you be patient. 5 For gold is tested in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation. 6 Trust in him, and he will help you; make your ways straight, and hope in him. 7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; and turn not aside, lest you fall. 8 You who fear the Lord, trust in him, and your reward will not fail; 9 you who fear the Lord, hope for good things, for everlasting joy and mercy. 10 Consider the ancient generations and see: who ever trusted in the Lord* and was put to shame? Or who ever persevered in the fear of the Lord and was forsaken? Or who ever called upon him and was overlooked? 11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful; he forgives sins and saves in time of affliction. 12 Woe to timid hearts and to slack hands, and to the sinner who walks along two ways! 13 Woe to the faint heart, for it has no trust! Therefore it will not be sheltered. 14 Woe to you who have lost your endurance! What will you do when the Lord punishes you? 15 Those who fear the Lord will not disobey his words, and those who love him will keep his ways. 16 Those who fear the Lord will seek his approval, and those who love him will be filled with the law. 17 Those who fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and will humble themselves before him. 18 Let us fall* into the hands of the Lord, but not into the hands of men; for as his majesty is, so also is his mercy.

“Despite all these things, I am happy to say that I’ve been able to keep a really positive attitude and not loose my cool. That in itself is a minor miracle since I’ve been struggling with anger and depression for the last few months.”

I am sorry for all the troubles you have had, but it seems praying the Rosary has helped you a lot. I would continue to pray. I don’t think prayer prevents things from happening to us , but it does help us cope with God and the Saints always by our side. Suffering is part of our lives because of sin in the world, and so I don’t think we will escape the troubles of this world.

I will pray that things will calm down for you, and that you will become stronger in your faith from all that you suffer and go through.

Blessings

Sometimes, we you start on the right path, that marks you out to the devil as an enemy. Enemies don’t get preferential treatment. Temptations and difficulties galore to dissuade us from following Christ. So evidently you are doing something right.👍

Continue, don’t worry and remember “He is faithful and will not allow us to be tested more than we can bear”

maggiemary - I think you made the devil angry. Keep up the good work 🙂

MaggieMary, the more you pray the harder it gets. Persevere and keep up the good fight!🙂

In the Living Prayer of my life

Thanks for the replies. I guess I feel confirmed in the my originial thought that I was facing spiritual opposition. On Monday, I literally went around in circles trying to resolve my parents problem. I was hung up on multiple times, refused information and asistance, and a general atmosphere of confusion prevailed. I accomplished nothing and decided to ignore it until after my prayer vigil. I tried to resolve it again today and it took me less than 5 mintues. Nothing could have been easier. It turns out it was all a computer glitch. Major contrast to the day I didn’t have time to deal with it and was trying to get to the vigil.

Thanks again for your relies and information!

Thanks for sharing the good news.
Praise the Lord.

Yes, I have dealt with situations like this before. In some cases, it was very obvious that I had forgotten to pray - God knows how to remind us well. 🙂

I find that sometimes when I spent a lot of time in prayer, that sense of Peace will stay with me for just a little while, then life hits…and appears to hit harder because I was in such a peaceful moment before that maybe I just kind of forgot how day to day life can be stressful…does that make sense?

I also have had experiences just like this and I know what you mean – it really feels different from other bad days, like it was connected to our saying the Rosary.

In this I agree with the posters saying it is something that is set up as a stumbling block by the enemy – often the things that come my way tempt me to get angry and sometimes I fall and then I am very ashamed for getting angry so soon after saying the rosary. It could be refinement by fire as some have said, but in either case, it is there to make you stronger when you pass through it.

For me when I first started returning to the Faith and the Church, it was very much like stepping out of the trenches in a WW1-like setting - for every step of progress you make going forward to God, the more you step away from the crowd/camp you were in before and soon you stand out alone as an easy target in the “no man’s” land between two armies – however, there is hope in that you will eventually reach the other camp and be in good company with the rest of God’s army.

Just keep it up.

this is a good point too

Yes. Sometimes I will say the Rosary before I go to work, listen to my Christian music in the car, pray to God and offer my day to Him, etc., and the minute I walk into my unit the you know what hits the fan and it’s all I can do to make it lunch to regroup.😦

I think that the bad day was unrelated to the Rosary.Everyone has a bad day occasionally. But I bet that, had you not prayed the Rosary, you would have had a worse one!Continue to rosarize-you will be blessed.Oh,and make sure to continue your noble pro-life prayers too.
