Pat’s daughter does not want anyone to visit at the ICU. So I am waiting for her call for update. Pat’s situation is very serious. Every day I dread for any bad news on my answering machine. So far there is no news. No news is good news.

I keep on praying for God’s resurrection power infusing into Pat’s lung and her body to give her new life. Doing all four Rosary mysteries daily just for Pat, plus other prayers here and there for her, I am trying my best to be a faithful friend. The intercession prayer is up to us, the final answer is up to God. As long as I am doing best on my part, I trust the rest into God’s hands.

I appreciate all of your help.

Pat passed away last night at 5:10. Her daughters and the priest were with her.

In my spiritual direction session the other evening, my Pastor mentioned that Pat did everything right with God. According to everything he understood about Pat, there’s nothing to worry. That was so comforting to hear. Pat is such a loving person. I am sure she is in God’s arm right now.

Pat is a good friend; she is also a mother figure. Her passing away is a big loss to me. My heart is sad but grateful. It was a blessing to be given the opportunity of being her friend. I love her very much. Her kindness will always stay with me.

When our loved ones passed to the eternal life, I believe the communication can still be kept. We Catholics believe in the communion of Saints. Our thoughts could be whispered to them through God.

Oh, dear Lord, you know how hard I have been praying for my mother and for Pat. My daily Rosaries, the Chaplets, some week day Mass and Station of the Cross, whenever I can. I tried my best for mother and for Pat.
How much I wanted them to live and how earnest I have pleaded.

I am glad I visited Pat at her home before her surgery. I told her not to worry and she said she wasn’t. I was fully expecting a smooth surgery and her full recovery. Little did I know things could turn out so different? But what does man know? What do I know?

Lord, I offer my pain up. I know while you are allowing so much pain, you are also with me in the pain. Thank you for being with me, Lord. I submit my will to Yours.

RIP for Pat and consolations for you and her family/friends InLight.

Great book (and very short) I think you’d like about souls in Purgatory by a nun in Medjugoria who interviewed an Austrian woman Maria Simma - the book is called “The Amazing Secret of the Souls in Purgatory” you can get it via Amazon or the website www.queenship.org.

All those prayers you have said for your mother and for Pat will have helped them to journey home to God and given them great grace and strength.

I often wonder when I have prayed for very sick people and they die what happens to my prayer and in some quiet moment I was made to realise that God does great things with those prayers and helps the soul to make good and smooth transition from this life to the next so it is almost seamless.

Your two mothers are very safe in the arms of Jesus.

Blessedstar - you might also want to check out the book about souls in Purgatory by a nun in Medjugoria who interviewed an Austrian woman Maria Simma - the book is called “The Amazing Secret of the Souls in Purgatory” you can get it via Amazon or the website www.queenship.org.

Answers many questions I’ve had about a soul just before death and those in Purgatory and how much our prayers benefit them!!

Thank you for the good advice and I would like to read the book.

I hardly ever buy anything these days unless its an absolute necessity. (I used to be quite materialistic and I have tried very hard to leave that past behind me) so I won’t be buying the book, but I wonder if there is a link to it where people can read it online.

By the way I have a question, people who write spiritual books, why do they charge for them? I am in the process of writing a book and I intend to give it away, it doesn’t seem right to make money out of such things.

I’m not sure if it’s available as an online book.

I think folks who write spiritual books use the $$ they get from them to continue with their ministry. Like when speakers come to your parish requesting donations so that they may continue to provide for the needs of those who profit from their ministry.

I used to live in a lay apostolate that lived solely on the $$ they got from donations. They’d send out periodic “begging letters” to their patrons and Our Lady and Jesus always made sure that the needs of the community were met. Folks used to donate cars, washers/dryers, clothing, food stuffs etc. What the community could not use - it then turned around and shared with the poor who were living in the area where the community was.

🙂

Inlight, I was up late last night praying the divine mercy chaplet as hard as I could, with all the accompanying prayers for all who have/ where / are dying that day. I was shaken out of dryness to pray this from my own affliction and I now offer it for you , your mother and Pat. May they rest now in the Lords arms. Tim

Thank you dmari, blessedstar, St.Gabriel, Tim and all.
I am also trying to read online if possible, simply because my bookselves are overflowing. I don’t have enough room to contain more new books. However, since there is no online version, I would order this one to read. I’ll share with you my thoughts once received the book and finish reading it.

Pat’s daughters were raised Catholic but are now Protestants. I mentioned offering Mass for Pat. Her daughter obviously didn’t know what I was talking about. Even I know Pat is doing well with God, nonetheless I’ll still offer Masses for her. We can never convey enough love, can we?

This coming Sunday’s Gospel is about gratitude.
Gratitude keeps our heart joyful. Life is good when we are able to count blessings. I am grateful for Pat’s friendship and all the warm kindness from you guys. Tears help soothing the wound in my heart. And my most gratitude is the constant comfort I receive from my dear Lord Jesus.

Jesus I trust in you.

when a Benedictine brother dies, the brothers all take turns, two at a time, reciting the entire book of Psalms nonstop for i think 1 or 2 days at the side of the deceased in the chapel…
It is so precious that we Catholics are given the prayers such as rosary and chaplet of divine mercy. That is the only way we can literally pray without ceasing, especially for the case of urgent healing prayers. It will be very hard to use our own words to pray every single minute.
if i’m not saying preset prayers in my head, i am usually singing or humming hymns in my head throughout the day. i imagine the angel choirs singing praises. the most difficult is praying while working, but i try to integrate it as if it was background music in my head. before letting myself listen to music in the car, i do a Rosary or Chaplet, or at least a short prayer if i already did one for the day. i think this is key to keeping me happy, calm, patient, and not an all around jerk most of the time…

I agree with what you said. What you are doing is great!

For me, in “normal condition”, what I mean by that is in “ordinary time” and “non-urgent situation”, the prayer of recollection, the singing of hymns and songs as thanksgiving and praise etc. are often part of the norm.

But when I feel pressed for spiritual warfare, for urgent intercession of someone’s healing or life and death, I am inclined to say the Rosaries and Chaplets over and over again, as many as I can.

Rosary, a powerful weapon of prayer and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, an effective way of invoking God’s mercy, seem to be the most reassuring prayers at such time.

I happened to talk to one of the priests in my church this morning.
Father said right before Pat passed away, he happened to step into her ICU room.
He did the Last Rite prayer, and as soon as she passed, he prayed the prayer for the dead. Father mentioned Pat has done everything right with her faith before the operation. She also received anointing of the sick three times. She was well prepared.

Not too many people have the blessing of having a priest at their side at the moment of death.
It is comforting to know all of these.

Just to share.

InLight was an amazing blessing, not only for Pat but her family and friends like yourself!!

This is a beautiful day, the day the Lord has made.

Pat’s funeral Mass was very graceful. Her family sat in the center front. All attending parishioners sat behind them. Readings were nice, Father gave a wonderful Homily.
I am sure Pat is happily resting in God’s arm.

From the series of events happened lately, I once again realize how precious each moment with our family and friends is. We never know if that moment could be the last. And seriously, in this life, there is nothing more important than our relationships with God. We ought to well prepare ourselves at any time because no one knows when God wants to call a person home.

“Rejoice always, never cease praying, render constant thanks; such is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

WOW…it’s amazing how God works InLight - I was just having this same conversation with two different people in the last day or so!!! While this life is short; eternity isn’t and how we act here impacts our eternity - once we get there - there are no more “do overs” left so live well here eh!?

Dmari, I am glad to know we are on the same thinking path.
Holy Spirit is working among his children for sure.

Jesus taught us to pray “lead us not into temptation”. When we sense the coming temptation, avoid it by all means. Do not allow ourselves to be tested. I’ll keep you in my prayers
