Woman of faith, pray for us

Dear Mother Mary, you have been honoured, blessed, and gifted by God. You are our mother because in figure of John, Jesus gave us to you as your children as He hung dying on the cross. We ask you to speak to God on our behalf.

It was through your faith that Jesus first manifested His power at Cana, thus beginning His work before the appointed time. Although it concerned neither life nor death, nor eternal salvation but the human feelings of others, He granted your trusting prayer. Such was your faith, and God’s love for you, Saint of all saints!

Therefore, we trust our prayer to Your faith in God! You see everything that we need in service of God, and all that we desire for each other. You feel the aching of our hearts and hear our longing prayers. You behold our faith, our repentance, and our love.

Stand not silently by, Mother! Our Father, your Son, and the Holy Spirit who overshadowed you and blessed you with our Saviour—They cannot refuse you!

Please give us your unfailing intercession before God so that the fullest gifts and blessings are granted to each of us. We stand humbly before you, Mother, and entreat you with our hearts, minds, and spirits…Mother!
 
Watch and Pray
Mother, most obedient and faithful of Christians, please intercede for love and conversion into our hearts, leading us into God whom you love so completely. Obtain that we hear and respond to your call, on God’s behalf, to live the Gospel. Into your loving, mother’s care I entrust my family, and all for whom I have responsibility.

Saint of saints, blessed Mother of God Incarnate, raised up sinless amongst women—we give thanks to God for your beauty born of love. We give thanks for your purity that received the Spirit of God and nurtured His seed within your virgin motherhood, into birth of the salvation of our race.

Pray for us sinners now and at our death.
 
  1. 14 Mary, woman of faith
When humankind first sinned against our Creator, God immediately condemned the tempter, saying, “I will make you enemies of each other: you and the woman, your offspring and her offspring. It will crush your head.” [Genesis 3:15]

Mary, whom Jesus made mother of all persons from the cross, [John 19:26-27] please, with the Angels, fight the ancient enemy in our lives, for sake of the redemption that your Son won for us.

You were obedient: “*I am the handmaid of the Lord, let what you have said is done to me.” *[Luke 1:38] You were unselfish and kind. Although yourself pregnant, you hurried to assist your older cousin in her pregnancy as soon as Gabriel informed you of it. God rewarded your faith and love by allowing the Spirit to speak to through Elizabeth:

“Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured by a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment that your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.” [Luke 1:39-45]

In you, the Spirit responded,
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit exults in God my saviour;
because He has looked upon His lowly handmaid.
Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty has done great things for me. Holy is His name,
and His mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him.
He has shown the power of His arm, He has routed the proud of heart.
He has pulled down princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
The hungry He has filled with good things, the rich sent empty away.
He has come to the help of Israel his servant, mindful of His mercy
—according to the promises He made to our ancestors—
of His mercy to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” [Luke 1:46-79]

You rejoiced for the blessing given to you Mary, and for those given to all persons through the Child whom you carried in your womb—for we also are descendants of Abraham, by faith. [Romans 4:12] You, in this loving concern for others, interceded for their needs even while on earth, exhorting them to obedient faith like your own, “do whatever He tells you”. He initially reproved you—“My hour is not yet come.” [John 2:4, 5] However, He granted your humble request.

Woman of faith, although your life held many perplexities and seeming inconsistencies, you treasured and pondered these brief manifestations of divine action in your Son’s life without losing your humble trust. [Luke 2:19-20] For it might have seemed that God could make better arrangements for the conditions of His divine Son’s birth! When you heard of the terrible slaughter of the innocent infants, intended to include Jesus, this massacre devastated your maternal heart on behalf of those other mothers. You might have said, “How can God allow this?” When you fled as a refugee with all the grief, displacement and destitution that refugee families may suffer you still kept faith. Again, you trusted, as He hung dying horribly wounded and humiliated upon a criminal’s cross.

Mary, we thank you for your care of that incomparable Child, whose coming was foretold centuries before. We thank you—for the Child whom you bore and nurtured is Saviour of all humankind! Thank you for your faith, for your obedience, for your faithfulness through all those years when the extraordinary promise made to you might have seemed lost in daily routine.

Thank you all again for your prayers and encouragement!

Good news came today. The diocesan marriage tribunal has agreed to do an annulment process according to what I was expressing in an earlier post! Now all I need to do is find a suitable, alternative employment situation, and finally I will be able to begin the processes of conversion and annulment. God be praised. The diocese even said they would be interested in my resume.

All of your prayers have been so powerful, things haven’t moved this fast before. I’ve been on this journey for 10 years - this is so amazing! God bless you all.

I am talking with the head of the marriage tribunal in our diocese tomorrow morning. Please pray that he will be open to and allow the process to go the way my wife needs it so she will be open to having an annulment proceding begin. I am off to pray the rosary. Its a hard one for me to pray, I get a lot out of it, but hard to get going. I’ve had a lot of signs pointing me in the direction that Mary will help me to better get to know her Son and who among us wouldn’t want that? Its just my protestant upbringing. I’m not against praying asking Mary’s intercession, but I just don’t have the relationship with her I would like to have. Anyway, God bless you all for your help and prayers.

*Though Elizabeth was Mary’s cousin, they lived far from one another, so most likely their relationship must of been quite distant and yet Mary went to her. She took care of her during the delicate part of the pregnancy. But most importantly, Mary went to make sure that the Lord’s plan with Elizabeth and her child, John the Baptist, would go according to the Lord’s will.

Mother Mary was not related to John and yet Jesus requested that John care for her and in return she would remain with John and all the apostles. Don’t worry too much about your new relationship with her, she was there for you since you where in your mother’s womb. She is the guardian of the Lord’s plan for his children and you are a child of the Lord.

Know that the Lord is your Master and He is Almighty God. Maintain in calm prayer like many of those that you ask for intercession today. They where all people of prayer. Father Solanus Casey, being a cradle Irish Catholic, went through his own road of trials and confusions, but always remained in constant prayer. Pope John Paul II carried such heavy burdens of responsability and health issues, but remained in constant prayer as he moved the WHOLE CHURCH forward into a new milenium.

I offer you another intercessor for your family, Saint Rita of Casia. May she intercede for your family the way she so bravely lived her whole life. God bless you, be at peace trusting and knowing the Almighty power of your God. Keep us posted, you are in our prayers.*

Just to give an update:

The diocese stated its willingness to make alternative arrangements to satisfy my wife’s need for anonymity. When I brought this news to her, I was greeted with resistance. The safety issue is an important issue, but clearly it is not the only one. With continued counseling we are having better conversations about the whole thing, but for the time being we are in a holding pattern until her fears/misplaced judgments about the Catholic Church and how my converting will affect our family can be dealt with. I thank you for your continued prayers!

My prayers are with you and your wife. I just stumbled upon this thread, you started in 2005. I am in the process of an annulment, so I read the posts about this kind of thing often. Mostly to offer prayers, and to see what happens! I hope it all works out for you two. I am a cradle Catholic, who divorced and went to a Lutheran church for awhile. Then came back when my daughter was old enough to make her first communion. I’m so glad I did.

Almighty Father, grant to these servants of Yours the dignity
of the priesthood. Renew within them the Spirit of holiness.
As co-workers with the order of bishops may they be faithful
to the ministry that they receive from You, Lord God, and be
to others a model of right conduct.

May they be faithful in spreading the good news, so that the
words of the Gospel may reach the ends of the earth, and the
family of nations, made one in Christ, may become God’s one,
holy people.
