Today is St. Ephraem the Deacon’s Feast Day. St. Ephraem the Deacon, pray for us!

Saint Ephraem was a poet and a theologian.

He lived all his life in Mesopotamia, first founding a school and then, when the Persians invaded his native town of Nisibis, moving to Edessa. He preached there, and laid the foundations of its great school of theology.

He is famous not only for the beauty of expression of his homilies but also for his hymns, which have spread far beyond his native Syriac church and are in use in East and West alike.

I am Steve C. and I am ready and willing to convert, but I cannot until my wife agrees to seek an annulment of her first marriage (so that we can remain married and keep our family together too). She is afraid of her first husband, even though its been 15+ years since their divorce. He was very abusive and threatening, and made several attempts at sabbotaging her car. She isn’t open at all to her own conversion, but I’m hoping once I am able, that perhaps God will do more to help her in that direction. One step at a time I guess. If she agrees to the annulment process then I will need new employment too in order to convert as I am a protestant pastor currently. A very complicated situation it is.

God, please help me and my wife and all the souls posting here with their prayer concerns. Mary, pray for us all, please. St. Bridget, whom God used to help me get to this point on my faith journey through an inexplicable miracle, please pray for us. Father Solanus Casey who I have felt personal ties to for various reasons I cannot get into here, please pray for us. Pope John Paul II, you who were such an advocate for evangelization, please pray for us. Clement of Rome and Ignatius of Antioch who have helped open my eyes through your teachings, please pray for us. ArchBishop Sheen, you who have taught me so much through your words and Mother Teresa, you who have taught me so much by your example, please pray for us. Thomas a Kempis whom the Holy Spirit used to give me peace to endure my trials on this journey, please pray for us. Brother Lawrence whom the Holy Spirit is now using to help me live more constantly in the presence of God, please pray for us.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning and ever shall be. Amen.

Everyone has been so good to offer prayers on behalf of me and my wife. Quite possibly, tonight may come the breakthrough I’ve been waiting for, the sealing of the compromise we’ve been working on that will allow me to seek alternative employment and then convert. Oh what relief and joy will come if that can happen. God help us reach that goal tonight, but if not, then when the timing is right - Thy will be done.

Again, thank you to all who are praying. We were not able to come to resolution last night, but it appears that an avenue of healing for my wife may have opened up, which may aid in my own conversion, and possibly hers further down the road. Continued prayers are most appreciated, including for my patience to wait upon the Lord and his good timing.

Our God, it is so very painful for us when we clearly know Your will, and the highest course for our lives, and yet we must wait. We know what is needed but with our best will and effort, we are personally able to do so little, and yet we know, if You wished, You could sweep away all impediments in a moment. We know when we must wait despite everything, that we and others who are involved, have insights to learn and growth to occur. Some are tempted to lose faith or hope at this point, and perhaps it’s our faith also that needs to grow.

Please help us because we are human, and we would act immediately, and in this age of instant everything, we are left sometimes anguished by the wait. Please help us to receive the insights, and to grow…and humanly, we beg, “as quickly as possible,” adding, but Thy Will be done.

Mother Mary, at the marriage feast of Cana, when you wished to protect the wedding hosts from…merely…embaressment, your request was enough to convince Jesus to move ahead His schedule for miracles. “My time is not yet come,” He protested. But He complied with your gentle intercession.

Mother Mary please intercede for Steve and his wife so that conversion may be granted swiftly.

Thanks everyone for your continued prayers! Another counseling session tonight. A chance to put one foot in front of the last step.

God help me and my wife take that step whatever it needs to be. Grant me the patience to accept your will on your schedule and to desire not only my own welfare nor to have it be my highest priority, but the welfare of my wife and sons whose need you surely are addressing as my wife and I attend our weekly counseling. In the name of Jesus who healed the sick, fed the hungry, and had compassion on the lost. Amen.
