DH and I had a tiff Friday night after our outing for my birthday. His folks watched the kids while we went out of town for dinner and some shopping. As we turned down our street, DH dropped it on me that one of his co-workers’ birthdays was the day before and everyone was going to the bar tonight to celebrate, would I mind if he went. OF COURSE I MIND!!!
For one thing, we had no money. I had been saving up for my birthday dinner and shopping for over a month and we spent every last dime of that. Because work was slow for him the last two weeks, we literally had no money left over after the bills - this means, no extra spending money for either of us. We already have to take out of savings just for him to buy cigarettes and give his cousin a wedding gift!
He got ticked at me and plopped in front of the t.v. and tuned me out. I knew that whether I said yes or whether I said no, I’d pay for it. If I let him go, he would overdo it and spend the rest of the weekend in bed when he needs to work on Saturdays. If I didn’t let him go, he would intentionally stay up late or even go buy some beer and overdo it at home in front of the computer and spend the rest of the weekend in bed.
For pete’s sake, it’s MY birthday, I felt like I was being ditched. If we were only dating, would this be acceptable? No, most likely I’d dump a jerk for doing that to me!
I went to bed and sobbed, but he didn’t come around to talk things out. I finally came out of our room to tell him that my biggest problem was just that I was jealous about how much he looked forward to spending time with everyone but me. He didn’t acknowledge me or look away from the t.v. screen and then a mouse hunt ensued and the conversation was dropped.
Thankfully he apologized the next morning and went on to work and helped out w/ the kids during the day - but I still wish he would discuss things with me. Feel like this is unresolved.

Please pray for both me and my husband. He overdid it Saturday night at the open bar at his cousin’s wedding, so he was bedridden all day Sunday until 6pm. Monday he didn’t go into work till 11, but he left early for Monday night football. He seemed to be getting back on schedule but said he actually didn’t start feeling better until just before he left work that day. So then Tuesday he got up ‘on time’ but called me just after I got to work to tell me that he was ill and laying back down. He didn’t get up till 9pm last night after the kids and I had gone to bed.
I was so upset I couldn’t even stand to sleep next to him, so I set up camp on the couch. Just as I was nodding off, he got up and asked me to go to bed so he could plop in front of the t.v. RRRGG! I told him there was plenty of work he could do in the kitchen instead of laying in front of the t.v and he said he just didn’t feel like it. All I could think was ‘CHOICE over FEELINGS.’ He moved my stuff back to the bedroom, but his irregular schedule is affecting my sleep too - the light from the t.v. filters in thru our bedroom door and then if he isn’t in bed, I will wake up frequently at night, then he wakes me when he comes to bed just hours before I get up.
It is 1:30 right now and he is still in bed at home. I really don’t know if he’s contacted his employer either yesterday or today about missing, I’m sure he’s going to be put on written notice again. Right now I believe he’s eaten up all of his vacation time, so he will not have any time off when the baby comes in December. We are 3 days post-wedding and he’s still ‘off,’ it’s just so irritating how long he takes to recover. Undoubtedly at this point it is more depression than anything else that is keeping him bedridden.
I am finding myself so upset that I’m taking it out on the kids. I have zero patience and am leaning far too heavy on spanking. I am reading thru ‘to train up a child’ and have taken the prescription for using ‘the rod’ to the extreme so much so that I was alarmed at the bruising I left on my 21mo son’s back legs (anger and spanking are incompatible). God help me. Forgive me for my anger.
