Please pray for me, suffering some depression. I frequently have feelings of worthlessness, just feeling like my life is of no real value to anyone. When I say this of course, I mean DH in particular. He is so caught up in his own strife that I cannot even talk to him about my troubles - the burden weighs him down even more and he cannot cope, so he flakes out and just ‘escapes’ into his computer addiction.

Feeling really alone, I literally have nobody to confide in who can really sympathize or give sound advice. Really just too embarrassed to go and talk to our priest. I’m not opposed to counseling, but we really cannot afford it. I really need DH to come along side me and say to me, ‘we’ll work through it together,’ and discuss options/plans as to how we can accomplish it all.

Also, have feelings of jealousy for acquaintances from church who really seem to have solid marriage and family bonds. It just seems like these people really just rally around and support each other and they have this real joy and peace in their lives that is totally foreign to me. The joy of the Lord departed from me some time ago.

Feeling like all of my efforts to try and make plans for our family financially and in parenting/disciplining are futile and just that nobody cares if DH doesn’t care and isn’t there with me. Just feel like the kids and I don’t matter to him. There’s a loss of joy and a lot of fear in his life as well.

Please pray for us that rather than being driven further apart, the Lord will bring us together to work thru our troubles together in His name. I know He loves our family and wants us to succeed if for no other reason than to glorify Him in the sacrament of Matrimony and to care for our children as His.

I am suffering from depression and anxiety at the moment, so I have an idea of what you are going through. I will hold you in my prayers and thoughts.

Hail Mary,
full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit Of Thy Womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Lord, help JLCecelia to go and meet with a holy priest who can offer her support and give her someone to confide in. May her husband eventually get himself to the same priest and begin to work on his relationship with his wife and children and grow together with them in the Lord to glorify Him. May this woman begin watching EWTN if she isn’t already. I know it will help her, as a deeper spiritual life will come from it. May she always ask for prayers on the forums and may she find friendship with these Prayer Warriors who want her to be happy and have all her prayers answered. Bless JL Cecelia by giving her the grace to go and meet with a holy priest to discuss her problem of depression with before she falls into an even worse state of depression. May she do this for herself and her family. She and her family are hurting Lord. Come send your Spirit and renew their family life and make them one in love. Send a new beginning to JL Cecelia by presenting to her mind a good holy priest to help start the process of healing. Amen.

Hail Mary,

Oh JLCecilia, I can relate to what you are saying. Sometimes I feel so alone in my marriage. My dh retreats to the TV and I just go to the computer or homework. I can’t seem to rely on him either to talk to and open up and it is frustrating. Sometimes I get so angry and he doesn’t understand why. When I do explain why and we talk, I am so angry that it is not a good time to talk. So I have learned to keep quiet. So I keep a lot bottled up and that is not good either. I will say that there is a book out there that is helping us. It is called Love and Respect. It talks about how married people can get into the Crazy Cycle. Men tend to go and retreat or go into their “cave.” Go to this website and see some of their free movies. See the Crazy cycle circle. See if that is a problem in your marriage. We never have the time to read, but we were give the audiobook for Christmas as a gift and listen to it in the car to Mass or wherever we may be going. It is very good. It uses the Bible a lot. You can buy it from this website too, the book or the audiobook.

Here is the website: loveandrespect.com/index.php

Click on the “go” in the free movie box. Then click on “go” in the marriage box and start watching one by one each movie. They are worth it. To buy the books, look at the top of the page and click on “estore.” To learn about the Crazy Cycle click on the top “learn” and then click on “crazy cycle.”

I hope this helps you and you can count on my prayers. Please know that you are not alone and there are many of us out there in the same situation, but there is hope. Jesus is our Best Friend and is with us. There is hope in this book and it helps us get out of the Crazy Cycle you are in with your husband. Read it and learn about it. I hope and pray it helps.

God bless you and may the Blessed Mother pray for you marriage.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Your situation and your feelings touch my heart very much. It is painful to be in an unequal marriage. I know that you try so hard. I’ve seen that in many posts from you for so long. Please God your husband will yet grow to maturity and learn how to really care for others, for his family.
I ask God to please, if possible, help it to be so.
I ask God to give you nourishment and strength.

Just feeling like I want to give up. DH called me on his lunch break just to chat, which I enjoy and look forward to every day. He ended by saying that he got my ‘hint’ and saw the Retrovaille print-out on his desk and that he wanted me to know that he would NOT go to this. I really didn’t have a response, so he just hung up.

I went to the back room to call him back. I really hate when he does this. Everytime he sleeps in, he calls me to let me know if/when he’s going to work and just apologizes then on the phone. Since I’m at work, I really can’t discuss sensitive issues, so it’s like he’s trying to get off scott free without ‘talking.’ I just told him that I hate when he calls me w/ this at work and calls it good on whatever the issue is - he doesn’t give me the time of day to talk about anything. He tries to talk about it while the little ones are under foot which usually ends up futile for everyone - the kids, rightfully vying for our attention get yelled at b/c we can’t hear each other and we get even more upset w/ one another than if he’d help me get them in bed and talk to me afterwards. But he doesn’t want to do that b/c it interferes w/ his computer addiction.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against our priest, but I just feel like he’s gonna hand me a bunch of prayers to say and give me some cliche advice. I want to talk to a couple who’s gone through what we’re going thru and give us the nitty gritty. More than anything, I want DH to have another man to witness to him.

I told DH that when he calls me in the middle of the day w/ that stuff, it really ruins my day. I’m immediately just downcast and want to cry at my desk. I feel defeated and I just don’t want to do anything else the rest of the day. I lose all motivation even to care for the kids and just literally shut down. We have a town festival coming up and I just told him not to ask me to make any social appearances b/c I’m tired of him ignoring me 24/7 and basically not meeting my needs and then calling on me to put on a smile for all his friends. I’m tired of pretending. I don’t even want to see his family who I normally enjoy. I feel like I don’t want to see anyone or do anything.

Just so down right now. I can gloss over it most days, but it hits a nerve every now and then and I just wish I could hurry up and go back to being numb if he isn’t going to do anything tangible to help me improve the situation. Just tired of the lip service and all the verbal apologies - I want him to PROVE that he’s really sorry by actually ammending his behavior in an attempt to avoid the situation in the future. Just like we say in confession that we will try to avoid the near occasion of sin.

Please pray for me. Wish I could take antidepressants, but PG right now. And we really don’t have the material resources for counseling.

Thank you for the prayers. DH let me lay into him last night about everything I’ve had on my mind. I must say it’s humbling to realize how much stronger he is and how broad his shoulders are to listen to my complaining so much! He has eased his temper in reacting to my complaints and he really is very gracious to listen. He asked me not to be upset by his silence, he said he had no response b/c everything I say abouth him is fair and correct.

I will say that my heart was touched by listening to and EWTN radio caller one night who said that when she and her husband were in different places in their faith, she made a point not to listen to or watch or read religious material around him or bring it up just as a way of being gracious to him. I have to say that I have not been that charitable to DH, in fact, quite the opposite. He said last night that I’m always watching EWTN about all these people who are perfect and then I expect us to be that way and I get all upset and treat him differently b/c of my disappointment. True, I tend to get the green-eyed syndrome quite a bit and it doesn’t help for me to immerse myself in material that just worsens this rather than giving me hope and courage.

He didn’t really care for my tactics of printing stuff out and leaving them on his desk, but I excused this by saying that when he doesn’t give me the time of day to talk about stuff, I feel this is my only option.

I’m just thankful that he was gracious enough to listen to me without getting upset and that he allowed me to get a load off my chest. Thanks too to all of you for reading and praying on this.

Glad that you got a chance to talk. I hope things continue to improve for you both.
