Saint Monica
Exemplary Mother of the Great Augustine,
You perseveringly pursued your wayward son
Not with wild threats
But with prayerful cries to heaven.

Intercede for all mothers in our day
So that they may learn
To draw their children to God.

Teach them how to remain
Close to their children,
Even the prodigal sons and daughters
Who have sadly gone astray.

Dear St Monica, troubled wife and mother,
Many sorrows pierced your heart
During your lifetime.
Yet you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence and profound faith,
You prayed daily for the conversion
Of your beloved husband, Patricius
And your beloved son, Augustine.

Grant me that same fortitude,
Patience and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
That God may favorably hear my plea
For

(mention your petition here)

And grant me the grace
To accept his will in all things,
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever. Amen.

I have a silver cartouche with my children’s names on it that I am wearing to Mass today. Kind of a way of taking them with me, I suppose.🙂

I want to thank all you prayer warriors who were praying for the wayward children during last week’s pagan festival in Nevada. I went to a Mexican mass at 7:30pm at OurLady of Guadalupe Church in Sacramento last night. I positioned myself right next to her image so I could look up at her throughout the Spanish speaking mass. She gave me lots of peace and comfort because she is the one who came to the hill of the pagan Aztecs in Mexico. She is pictured crushing the serpent in the image. It was a fitting place for me to be on the last day of the Burning Man celebration where the pagan idol is burned.
I will continue to pray for all of our intentions. Maggie is giving us lots of prayers to St Monica…thank you so much! Thanks for helping me get through another week of Burning Man. This has been the most hopeful year yet, thanks to all your prayers. I will continue to keep up my trust in Jesus…and just patiently wait for the miracle we are all praying for…our children back in the arms of Jesus.

I was responding to a thread for people who need a ‘hug’…then I happened onto this one.

I have renewed my prayers to St. Monica through your prayers.

Please pray for my grown children who have left their spouses. I feel something good has to come from this. Possibly, it is my finding this site.

I’ve learned many of of you are suffering with bigger problems than I am. I didn’t know anything about the sinfullness in Nevada.

St. Monica, bless all mothers who are hurting today.

I would like to add the names Ellen & Charlotte to the list. They are not family members, but dear friends who are totally caught up in paganism, despite having been raised Catholic, & it:( breaks my heart to see these 2 sweet ladies drawn away from our Lord, into the worship of false ‘‘gods’’…

I will add your friends to my list. Paganism is the new “New Age” and seems to be popular with the college educated. We Christians look stupid because we believe without scientific proof. Paganism is so much more “fun”. St Augustine was very bright when he chose to be a pagan. It was his pride that convinced him to be a “free thinker” and live life his way. That’s why it is so important to have him and his mother on our team to fight this sin of pride in our children and young adult friends.:gopray2:

To St. Monica, Patroness of Mothers

Blessed Monica, mother of St. Augustine, we give thanks to our Father in heaven Who looked with mercy upon your tears over your wayward son. His conversion and heroic sanctification were the fruit of your prayers. Dear St. Monica, we now ask you to pray with us for all those sons and daughters that have wandered away from God, and to add your prayers to those of all mothers who are worried over their children. Pray also for us that, following your example, we may, in the company of our children, one day enjoy the eternal vision of our Father in heaven. Amen.

~~ from “Prayers for Today,” published by Leaflet Missal Co.

O glorious St. Monica, greatly challenged among mothers, I feel particularly attracted by you who gave such an enlightened example of motherly love.

Who could understand better than you the anxieties and fears of a mother worrying about the eternal salvation of her children? You endured all, since in the order of nature, St. Augustine is the fruit of your womb, and in the order of grace, the fruit of your tears. For this reason I am greatly convinced that if you here on earth, with the sanctity of your life and the perserverance of your prayers, were one of the great models of the Christian mother, you must enjoy in heaven the privilage of being their singular protector.

Obtain for me the grace to faithfully imitate your virtues, and furthermore, may my children avoid those errors and failures you disapproved of so strongly in your son. And if it will happen, to my misfortune, that they too fall, grant me the grace to obtain with my prayers, supported by yours, as perfect a conversion as you were able to obtain for your son. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. MONICA

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

(Mention your intention here.)
My brother Michael, brother Jerry and brother James.

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.
Amen

O glorious mother St. Monica, who can conceive the consolation that abounded in your heart, so long the home of brooding sorrow, when you saw your child Augustine rising in the light of grace and giving himself generously to God; when you folded your converted son in your arms, and tears of very joy streamed forth to tell the glowing jubilee of your heart.

Oh, how in that moment God in his mercy recompensed your years of sorrow and anxiety, your long and weary days of racking suspense. It was impossible that a child of tears like yours should perish; and when your son Augustine heard the call of God, he obeyed it, and his life and his deeds flung a luster all their own on you, St. Monica.

O fortunate mother, twice mother of your child, deign to listen to our prayers and present our petitions to God; look lovingly, and with all a mother’s interest on us assembled here, under your protection, to honor you. We love you; let us become, as St. Augustine of old, the objects of your maternal love. Pray that we, too, like St. Augustine, may have strength to cling to God, and triumph over sin and temptation. By your prayers break the fetters of sin that hold in cruel bondage the souls of your sinful children in this world.

O mother, pray that the miracle of grace in the heart of Augustine may again and again be repeated in these days of universal sin, and that the erring children of Jesus may be led back to the fold; that, united here on earth, we may securely go through the dangers of life and be united with you, our mother, in heaven for ever. Amen

Followed by:
Our Father. . . Hail Mary . . . Glory Be . . . Saint Monica, pray for us.

Let us all support one another in prayer for those who have family members who have wandered from the faith.

Amen to that!

:blessyou:
