Lord of Creation, and Father of our sustenance, we look to You in thankfulness for the innumerable blessings that each of us has received. We gather in spirit to offer prayers for our brother in Christ, JReducation, who is being tested, but whose faith is steady. Graciously increase his love and hear his praises as he daily looks Heavenward. Eternal God, outside of Your love, we find nothing to comfort us. In Your Divine Mercy, keep our brother sheltered beneath Your wing, secure in the knowledge that You humbled Yourself through Your only Son for the sake of all who believe. In that same love, we ask You to ease his struggle by the constant supplications which we offer. Out of mercy, join our petitions with those of Your Angels and Saints to form an unending plea for mercy and healing in our brother in Christ. Grant this, O Source of love, through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your only Son, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever. Amen! Alleluia!

UPDATE

Thank you all for your prayers. They are working. This week I’ve been up and about. This coming Sunday I’m returning to life with my community again.

The doctors say that my condition is terminal, but at this time it does not look iminent. They believe they can control it for a while longer. I have no idea how long that while is, but I’m not worried about it.

Actually, I’m very happy. I can’t explain why, except to say that I’m very much in love with my God. I can’t explain how or why, but I know what I feel and what I want. There is nothing better that I want, but to serve God in his people, especially children with disabilities and children threatened by abortion.

Before I became a religious I was married. We had three children. My wife and a son died in an auto accident. I was left a widower with two children. My deceased son was a beautiful and very typical little boy of age seven when he died. My youngest was the baby that doctors told us to abort, because he had brain damage. My wife and I believed that this was not an option, but only God’s love and trust in his love was the option.

Well, this is the boy who survived the accident, the one whom everyone wanted to abort. Today he is 19 and a sophomore in college. He is my friend and my pride and joy. After many years of therapy and even losing my house to get him the services that he needed, he graduated from high school and entered college.

When I became a religious, he served at my profession mass and held the book from which I read my vows. You can call him a sort of bestman at a religious profession. He stood there by my side and held my hand during the entire ceremony. I took his name as my religious name, hence the initials JR, to avoid the confusion between the two of us with the same name.

Sorry to bother you with so many details. Just wanted to share with all of you how your prayers are at work. Thank you for praying for me. Please don’t stop, but also remember my soul. It needs more prayers than my body.

Fraternally in St. Francis,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Hail Mary, Full of Grace the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

JR,
Don’t feel like you are bothering people with your life story. I think it’s a testament to the strength of the humanspirit, and God’s help that kept you and your family going so strong for so long. I think your story is sad, yes, but triumphant and bittersweet in the end.
Dontfeel like you have to hide and that your life’s story isn’t worth telling…it IS…We all care for you here at CAF

Take care and say a prayer:)

JR,

Thank you for your story. There is more than one way to save a life. Most of us go through times of despair and are in need of strengthening. I found your story particuarly helpful to me at this time and very encouraging during my own personal time of crisis. I pray that one will find such solace as to face with courage the decision to choose life, as is your request. If we don’t get to meet here, then I look forward to sharing fully with you all our trials and triumphs when we are together with our Lord. I will offer up your intention at Mass the next time I am there and every time when we pray for an end to abortion.

God bless you, Brother.
