Prayer Thread for Those Dealing with Tinnitus

If you’re not familiar with it, tinnitus is a consistent noise (ringing, buzzing, hissing, etc…) in the ear. There can be various reasons why people develop it. My ENT thinks mine was caused by a virus.

There is no cure for it. While it come sometimes go away on it’s own, for many, it does not. Dealing with it and learning to live with it can be very stressful and discouraging. Both faith and sanity can be tested.

I know of a couple other people on the board who are also afflicted by it. If you could please keep us (and people everywhere who live with this menace) in your prayers, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes please, especially on this New Year’s Eve when I am stuck having to be around all these loud relatives who never seem to remember that their screaming hurts…

I have tinnitus and hyperacusis…

Ughhh,my tinnitus is pretty annoying lately as well.I attribute my issues with it to my chronic neck problems and TMJ 😱

I have suffered from tinnitus off and on for many years. It really interferes with your quality of life. Mine is mostly in my left ear.

Praying for those who suffer from tinnitus and hope they find a way to prevent it.

the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal (Those Dealing with Tinnitus). You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into Those Dealing with Tinnitus’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Count me in! I also have tinnitus and hyperacusis going on two years now. Mine, I believe, is caused by stress and jaw clenching/teeth grinding. Dear Jesus, hear our prayers. We are in need of a cure, soon.

Thank you for all of the prayers, and my prayers are with each of you who have shared that you also have it.

Mine got really bad at Liturgy (of all places) last night. 2017 has not started out well for me. 😦
 
I’ve had it full time for a couple of years, played loud electric guitar in bands for many, many years (and standing in front of loud drummers doesn’t help), and I think it was an afternoon of driving metal t-posts in the ground that put me over the top. Mine has been really bad lately; thankfully my audiologist said I have excellent hearing, just with the annoying whine/shriek of tinnitus on the top.
A couple of things I would say to fellow sufferers:
*When it gets bad, I remind myself that God is permitting this to be. I pray for relief, but also offer it up for people I’m praying for.
*I try to think how Jesus felt after being slapped and punched the night before His crucifixion. It’s not hard to imagine that our Lord had some serious ringing in His ears from that.

It’s frustrating knowing that, at least for now, it is incurable and that I may never hear pure silence again. But, it could be worse!

To anyone who plays/listens to loud music or is otherwise exposed to loud noises and is not currently suffering from tinnitus: please do yourself a favor and protect your hearing
now!! I can remember reading interviews with Jeff Beck where he talked about his tinnitus, and how he listened to music on headphones much of the time so he could ignore it. I thought, pfffft, I’ve played so much loud music with no permanent damage, it’s not going to happen to me. Guess what?
It’s totally not worth it. But, it could be worse…

One more thing: I was telling a fellow musician about it, and he said his dad had experienced significant relief from taking vitamin D. I tried taking it, and I think it did help but I also experienced some other undesirable effects so stopped taking it regularly. Anyhow, you might give it a try. Others have experienced relief from taking gingko or melatonin.
 
Prayer for Healing

Merciful God,
We remember before You all who are sick this day
especially those who suffer with tinnitus.
Give them courage to live with their disease.
Help them to face and overcome their fears.
Be with them when they are alone or rejected.
Comfort them when they are discouraged.
And touch them with Your healing Spirit
that they may find and possess eternal life,
now and forever.
