Being prayed for. :crossrc:

I don’t have any advice to give, but I deeply sympathise. I was abused in every way imaginable and I had no help whatsoever from anybody mortal. I had my life saved by an angel once. Through all the abuse, God has been there for me and really close.

Sure, there were child abuse investigations, therapists, psychologists, even court. It all meant nothing. Even when I snuck in the evidence of a pair of bloody panties * to the judge, it counted for nothing. He just tossed it back and said it was fabricated evidence. I had depression, some bouts of hopelessness, contemplations of suicide but was too afraid to try anyway, and even gave up on God for a temporary time.

No matter how bad it got, I was never alone. God was always with me. I turned out just fine, even with the fact I had gotten no help at all. By the time I was in my late teens, I asked a kind man over the internet to please get me out of my family’s house. He did that. We live together as brother and sister while I recover and figure out what God wants me to do with my life. I’ve been here for years and the recovery is going nicely.

I’m almost 29 now and I’ll tell you…your [niece and nephew, right?] don’t have it as bad as mine was. They are fortunate. If I had a relative as caring as you, I think I would’ve learned what its like to have a parent. I don’t. I don’t know what its like to have a mother, a father, nor siblings [my mother never allowed us to be together so it was like I was an only child] nor friends. I wasn’t allowed to have friends. I wasn’t allowed to learn ASL. I’m still learning what friends are and how to handle social situations. I still have little social skill.

I will keep those children, including the already-previously-abused ones, and all the people revolving around them, all my heartfelt prayer. I’m sure their guardian angels and God are watching over them. If you want to talk in further detail, I welcome you to email me or IM me. 👍

Thank you Seremina for sharing your story. I too am grateful that someone came to your help when you needed it and get you out of that abusive situation. I am sorry too that the system let you down and did not defend you. It is heartbreaking to hear that it goes on, but it does and it still does.

Thank you again for sharing. Thanks for praying for my niece and nephew and you are right, they have not suffered very kind of abuse that you have. In their case, there is no sexual abuse. I am so sorry you had to go through all that, but I am sure the Lord will use your past experience to help kids that may need your help. I hope you are open to whatever He brings your way to help others. From what you wrote, you have a gift that needs to be shared to kids that need you. If you ever get into the laws of your country, I hope and pray the Lord will use you to be an advocate for children. Things have to change for their sake.

Nana, still praying for you and the children and sister, please let us know how it is all going:gopray: :grouphug:
Thank you. The kids were much happier today for I went to visit them. Marissa mentioned how angry her dad was to me and than Luis told me that it was his fault. I told them both that their dad is the one making the choices and none of this is their fault. We did some arts and craft, place mats for Thanksgiving, and we had fun. Marissa did cry at the drop of a hat, but it was because of what happened yesterday.

It does go on. Not just in Florida. I was born and lived in Michigan at the time. I live in Ontario in Canada now. I miss Michigan a great deal and I do get homesick. The relationship between me and my family are just small talk. Merely acquaintance-level. No real sense of family. I loved the small town I lived in. Its not so small now after the merging that went on, so whenever I do go back just to get a re-union with the town I am sure to find a lot of changes.

In that area of Michigan, near Detroit, there are two main missionary movements. The Tridentine Mass movement, and the Deaf Catholic schooling movement that includes taking in deaf Catholic children whose families will not keep them. It would’ve been nice if I had ended up in one of those monastery/convent run orphanages, but I guess God had something bigger in mind.

You say I should be involved in abused kids as you think I have a gift. I don’t know if I have a gift. I just know that there has to be something better out there than just children being blindly subjected to such pain. Sure, they get benefits from redemptive suffering, but prevention would be nice…you’d think parents would realise that they are hurting Jesus the same way they hurt their children. He wants us to see everyone as Him, so that we may serve Him and help Him. I know, vaguely, that I have a calling. I’m not sure what this calling is and I need a lot of time and clear messages to find out. I know contemplative monasteries/convents will take in deaf candidates, as will the few deaf ones in the world. I know I could even go the Consecrated Virgin route. Or go the Penitent route [as they have email/chat communication; most 3rd/Secular Orders don’t]. I don’t even know how I’d ever brave talking to abused kids. Some are soooo angry due to all the abuse and rejection they received. I was such a quiet child. Still am quiet. Written communication works best for me as I’m still learning ASL all alone via free online education. I’d never have the money to get really high-tech hearing aids; my deafness is pretty bad and I know surgery is not an option. I feel pretty helpless and though I sometimes feel alone, I know I’m not alone. From looking at me or chatting with me, you’d never guess I was suffering.

My biggest dream as a child, due to how close I was to God, was that a Priest or Monk or angel would come along…take my hand…and lead me to serving God my whole life. I can’t seem to do much on my own, though I’m still searching for answers. It still seems like I get little help, but I know God IS helping. Just maybe in a way I can’t see or I’m too stupid to figure it out. Don’t mind my long posts…I just seem to need to let others know what I experience and would like. I know I have a tendency to ramble on. I’ll try to keep them short. :o

You have the gift of faith to give these kids. Remember that Moses too did not feel he was a great speaker and God helped him. If it is God’s will for you to help children who are abuse, I have no doubt he will lead you and make your path clear to you. I did not know you were deaf and you could help many deaf kids as well. I have a niece, another one who is 21 yr. old, and she is studying to work with the deaf. I hope she will work in a Catholic place that takes cares of kids.

My nephew is full of anger. Marissa is like you and very quiet. They both love their dad, but do not want to live with his anger anymore or abuse. They feel that their dad is not realizing that he can and is abusive. I told them to pray for their dad. But I do agree with you and most kids are very anger and they have to learn to forgive the abuser or the anger will stay with them on their lives. My dh was abused as a child, in every way, and when I married him I found out he was and is full of anger. I did not know he was abused in childhood for he kept that from me. I found out after we were married. I have never met such an angry person. I thought I was going to have to get a divorce. He did forgive his mother and father and slowly that anger is leaving him. He still a little angry, but not like before. Thank God he is much better.

I hope someday you will return to America and help make laws to protect the kids for the Department of Children and Family (DCF) here in Florida or Child Protective Services (CPS) is not a system that protect children from child abuse. Sad but true!!!

Thank you for your kind words. I had forgotten that Moses did not feel suitable for the job he was given, but God was crystal clear with him and even gave him his own brother, Aaron, as an assistant. It seems as the story goes on, Moses becomes less reliant on Aaron.

I want to raise an important issue. I think the biggest reason why the protection of children is so lousy is because children have no rights. I doubt this has changed, but the laws say that children are property. The saddest part is, enforcing child abuse laws are not effective because of the property label. If you look at animal abuse, they are property thus they don’t get the attention they need. I know most people think animal abuse is always acted on…but watch those “emergency action” type shows on TV. Those pets are either SEVERELY injured/sick, or dead, before anything was done and sometimes even then nothing was done. Unfortunately, this is the same for children.

Most agencies think that the children aren’t being abused if they eat well. My family regularly served too much meat and they wouldn’t allow me just to eat a small serving. I did lose all the weight from the induced obesity that caused, They think its healthier to eat too much. It can be really strange what all the agencies look at to determine abuse though the obvious stares them in the face. It didn’t help I was forced to wear makeup when I was a little older so the abuse was covered up. I’m not a makeup person. I just like to bun my hair up.

Food for thought, I think.

HI everyone and Happy Thanksgiving. I will be leaving here soon heading to Norma’s house.

Marissa and Luis are different children. The school counselor called my sister last night and told her that Luis had a great day at school and talked about his dad’s behavior the Friday he came to pick them up. On his own, Luis realized that his dad’s behavior, the anger, was inappropriate.

Luis did want to talk to his dad and he called him up last night. His dad said he would be by today to see them and he did show up. He came alone and spent time with Marissa and Luis in their bedroom. He was even nice to Norma. He did tell the kids that he made some mistakes in the past with them and wrong decisions that he said his new wife made him make. He said that he will no longer be forcing them to go with him and when they were ready to spend the night again at his house to call him. He also told them that they needed to accept Gayle for she was his wife. He stayed half an hour and left. This is what the kids have wanted him to do for so long and what Norma has suggested. I hope he is on the road to conversion, but he still has paid no child support in two months and is in contempt of not paying off the old amount.

After the holidays, he will be angry again for Norma will have no choice but to bring him back to court to get him to pay. I think he is taking his time in finding a job, or has one and is lying.

I do believe that all of your prayers for him and this situation are working to soften his heart. Thank you and continue to pray for them all.

Reading your updates, Nana3, and staying in contact with this thread…and continuing to keep all and the situation in prayer…Barb

Hi Nana3,

I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers. I am so glad things are getting better.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

Nana,

I am still praying. Please pass my best wishes to Norma, Marissa and Luis.

Nana,

Thank you and I will pass it on. The kids are much better without going to their dads. Luis is conflicted though and calls his dad from time to time. He wants to see him, but not go to his house. His behavior is better, but still has anger. He did hit a teacher this week and was sent home. Overall though, his behavior is better and the teachers have noticed. The dad still has not paid child support, not three months since the court date and is not paying what the judge said he needs to for past child support that is due. He claims not to have a job yet and that is why he can’t pay. He last visited with the kids on Thanksgiving Day. He visited for 30 minutes.

The psychologist is telling Norma that LUis would benefit from a mild antidepressant, but she really would not like to put him on this at his age. Please continue to pray for them.

I did talk to someone from our parish who deals with kids with behavioral problems and anger. She teaches tennis and said by playing this sport the kids get better in their anger. Her next class is January 5, 2008.

Still praying. I offered Mass yesterday for the children and Norma.

Still keeping all in prayer, Nana…I think sport is a wonderful suggestion!
