Let us pray that it is not a tumor at all! Lymphoma is a blood cancer and will not contain itself to a single lymph node. If you have active or prior mononucleosis, have been infected with the Epstein-Barr virus, or have experienced spiking fevers, night sweats and rapid weight loss, you may have something to be concerned about. But first, there is a tendency for us to find a swollen lymph node and suspect lymphoma. Our lymph nodes are simply part of our immune system. Their job is to react to infections - viral, bacterial or fungal. They react in an unseen manner all of our lives. When they react, they will swell in size, sometimes markedly. Occasionally, one of those nodes is close enough to the surface that it can be felt. The vast majority of the reasons for reactive lymph nodes is not cancer. Remember doctor checking around your jaw or under your arms during checkups? Doctor was not looking for cancer, but rather swollen lymph nodes as a result of infection.
Having a sister with lymphoma may or may not mean anything, as the causes of lymphoma remain unknown. If you have no other symptoms, it is a very good sign. If you have recently had an infection, treated or not, that is very likely the cause of your reactive node. I would advise you to avoid “Dr. Google” like the plague. Searching the web for diseases that accompany any given symptom will lead you to despair.
As one who has been in treatment for lymphoma for four years, and who had about three months to live when diagnosed, I can say that I simply abandoned my life into God’s hands. I let go of any claim I had on my life and gave it over to Him, to do with as He pleased. He was waiting for me to trust Him, and when I showed that trust, He handed my life back to me.
**Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.
