You all are so kind in your prayers. Luis had his surgery on Friday and did great. The doctor is hoping that this will work and that fluid build up will not occur again in the future for that could happen. If it does, a shunt will be put in next surgery. The name of the surgery he had was an Endosopic Third Ventriculostomy. He continues to be in pain, headaches, but they give him Tylenol with Codeine for pain. His major problem is his dad. His dad doesn’t understand the concept of resting in the hospital and that his son is not allowed to be playing as he usually does. The dad called my sister today and told her that was on his way with some friends and one of Luis’ friend. Luis was happy to see him but his dad brought legos and they build a car and next thing you know both of the boys were on the floor playing rough with the cars. My sister corrected him three times and told him to get into bed for he is not suppose to over do it, but his dad said to allow him to play. Well, the kid listened to his dad. After his dad left and the little boy too, Luis was in extreme pain. He had a severe headache. They had to give him medications. The nurses hooked him up to the EKG monitors and Oxygen saturation monitor. It took his pulse as well and his respiration. The nurses could monitor it from their station. I arrived when he was sleeping and all hooked up. I took the time to talk to my sister and ask if that little friend was coming back tomorrow and she said yes. I told her that if Luis was my son, I would talk to my ex and tell him to keep the boy home and Luis can see him when he is all better for he is still recovering and should not be playing on the floor. I know Luis won’t listen for he wanted to play again on the floor tonight with my daughter, but I would not allow it. It was right after the nurse made a deal with him that if she unhooked him he has to only play card games and take it easy. I saw how he doesn’t listen and told my sister to call her ex and tell him not to bring the boy tomorrow. I called the rest of my family and told them to limit visitation for Luis had way too many visitors today and over did it. The worse visitor was his friend Cody who his dad brought. It is not Cody’s fault, for boys will be boys, but his dad should realize his son is recovering from brain surgery. The dad texted by sister after she left a message saying that the nurse say Luis over did it today and she asked him to keep the boy home. He texted back and said it was fine. Tomorrow he is only going to see his sister and my husband who will bring him and his mother Holy Communion. He needs to rest. Oh yes, he will see his dad too. His dad said he was going to bring more friends, but he changed his mind. Thank God.

We were praying his dad would be more sensitive to his son, but so far we have not seen it. He missed seeing his son before he went into surgery and then blamed the hospital staff. Luis was disappointed. Luis and my sister had to be at the hospital at 11 a.m. and she told her ex to be there at that time. They prep him for surgery fast and took him in early to surgery. He was in surgery by noon even though the time was suppose to be 1 p.m. The dad was livid, but my sister told him that is why he should have been there at 11 a.m. with them. Then he got mad when the boy was asking for his mother when he was coming out of anesthesia. As far as Luis knew, he dad was not there for he only remembers his mom being at his side before surgery. I hope all this will help the dad wake up.

But Luis was smiling tonight. He still had some angry behavior, but he has swelling still and we are hoping that once that is down he will be better. The doctor told my sister that where he had the most fluid pressure in the right frontal lobe, that is where our temperament is controlled.

Thanks for your prayers and please continue. He continues to be in pain. I hope tomorrow when he receives Communion, he will feel even better.

Thank you for the update Nana3. I am very glad Luis is doing so well. I will continue to keep him along with the rest of your family in my prayers.

Sincerely,

Thank you, Maria. He is out of the hospital. He as discharged yesterday. The doctor surprised us all. My nephew is going to be hard to keep down and calm. He was sitting on the floor of the hospital playing alone with some cars and my sister said he hit his head twice. Once against the best and once on the desk they have in the room. I told her that he should not be on the floor playing. At least no just yet. But he is going to be hard to keep down. When my husband brought him Holy Communion on Sunday, he was running in his house. We had to stop him several times. I know boys will be boys, but he has to remember that per doctor’s order he has to take it easy for three weeks. I know it will be hard on him as he feels better and in no pain.

At least his dad has agreed to stop his every other weekend visit until he recovers. That is a good thing.👍

Thanks for your prayers and keep them coming.

Update: Luis took a turn for the worse. Yesterday, Luis started to throw up and my sister called his neurosurgeon and he told he to take him immediately to the ER. She did and they had to take samples of his spinal fluid from his incision site on top of his head. They tried to aspirate the fluid four times before they got it. They sent that off to the lab and my nephew just kept throwing up. They gave him something for that and the neurosurgeon left for his office. Luis then developed a fever. He had 101.4 degree F. The ER staff did not notify the surgeon of this and the ER doctor’s discharged my nephew home.

Today, my sister gets a call from Luis’ surgeon and he tells her to bring Luis immediately tot he ER for the samples they took of his fluid shows that he has a bacterial infection. At first he told her that maybe they accidently took some of Luis’ scalp and that gave a false test result for Luis had no fever, but my sister corrected him and said that Luis is coming a fever and has since being at the ER. He was angry at the ER staff. He told her to get him to the ER for he wanted to take another sample and if that was positive for bacteria, he would admit him and in fact do surgery immediately. Sure enough it was positive and he had surgery to remove the foreign object they placed in him for that is what was causing him meningitis. He had the surgery and when they removed the object, Luis brain pressure increase too high. This worried the surgeon and he put a tube in Luis’ brain that is now protruding his head that is hooked up to a monitor to let the nurses know when his pressure is too high. So far the monitor has rang so many times for his pressure is too high. He is not leaving the hospital until he is bacteria free and after that he goes home with oral antibiotics and then another CT scan of his brain to see if the fluid has increased in his brain and if so, he needs another surgery to put a shunt in.

Please keep Luis in your prayers still. He is not yet out of the woods and is now in the most critical time. Thank you.

Thanks, Maria. Luis was doing well until today. He accidently pulled out his tube from his brain just a little for the nurse saw blood in the line. She called the doctor and he ordered an emergency CT scan this afternoon. She put dye into that line, but it was clogged up with blood and did not go through so the CT scan was unsuccessful. The doctor pulled out the tube and told my sister that they still need to have spinal fluid test on a daily basis to make sure he is bacteria free. He only had one day free and he needs three consecutive days. He told her he could have the tube put back in or have daily spinal taps. She told him the tube. So he is going back to surgery tomorrow. Poor Luis, he has been through so much and it hurt to get that tube out. My sister said he cried for five minutes.

Pray for a safe surgery tomorrow. Thanks.

Oh Nana3, I am so sorry to hear this. I most definitely will pray for Luis and hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow.

Surgery went well and the Good Lord even sent a priest before it to give the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. He is recovering and doing much better this time. He continues to have bacteria present in the cultures of his spinal fluid and fever, but we are hopeful that will soon be done with all the antibiotic treatment. Once he gets three days of negative results, he gets that tube take out and can go home. He is really to go home now.

Thanks, Maria, for your prayers.😉

I am so glad the surgery went well. That is wonderful! I will keep praying for Luis and hope he is home by the end of the week.

Sincerely,
