Hi Everyone,

Since this is such a rare occurence we do not have a hospital near us. We have been dealing with 2 hospitals. Hospital #1 is 2 hours away. Hospital #2 is 6 hours away. We got a call from hospital #2 today. On top of everything else, there has been alot of communication issues between the hospitals. Our last sonogram was on May 2nd and I had to call H#2 yesterday to see if they received the notes of that sonogram from H#1. They said they have not received anything since April 16th. I called H#1 and they said they faxed it. Once H#2 looked over the sonogram and notes they called us. Basically the numbers between the 2 hospitals are not matching. This could be a number of things from someone not taking the right measurements to the tumor not shrinking as much as they thought. They did say it does not seem like Joshua is in distress, which is good. The only way to get an accurate measurement is to have H#2 do it.

We are scheduled to go to to H#2 this Monday, then the following Tuesday, then the following Monday. Thank you for all the prayers you have said you will NEVER know how much it means to us!

Please keep my wife and son in your prayers and we will keep you updated.

God Bless

Hi Everyone,

We got back from our doctor visit last night. We are both kind of confused an feel like we are running on empty. I’ll try to keep this simple. There are 2 hospitals that we are dealing with, there were 3. One hospital is for my wife and her doctors and one hospital is for my son and his doctors.

According to my wifes’ doctors the tumor appears to be still growing, but stable, meaning it is growing with our son. He is not in distress and they have been known to shrink the in the last couple of weeks before birth. What this means is we are at a standstill until at least June 2nd when we go back for more involved tests.

The doctor says as it looks right now he would recommend surgery (C-section) and then deliver the baby once the tumor was removed. He also said as it looks right now my wife may have to move down there around week 35 (this Thursday is the start of week 32) and there is still a slight chance she and my son may develop hydrops (retained fluid with usually fatal results).

We were given some clinical studies that have been done. We were orignally told that this is a 1/5000 chance. According to the data it is more like a 1/30,000 chance. Why this is significant is there is not much data to go on, let alone the particulars of our son’s tumor. It looks like our situation is unique in the fact that, by now either the baby has miscarried, been emergency delivered due to hydrops, or the tumor has shrunk enough to have a normal delivery. The issue with our sons’ tumor is that it is a hybrid CCAM/BPS, which is short for a Congenital Cystic Adenomitoid Malformation/Bronchial Pulmonary Sequestration, which according to the research has not been researched enough, if at all, to gather information on what may happen these next few weeks.

Overall the doctor yesterday was postive and we will know more after we talk to the other doctors today. I will keep everyone updated.

Your prayers are the only thing keeping us going, Thank You. You will never know how much we appreciate it. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You!

God Bless

Hello everyone,

GOD IS GREAT!

My wife and I got back from the specialists Monday around midnight. The doctors did a level 2 sonogram and a MRI. After looking at all the data the doctors said it looks like my son’s heart and throat are back to a relatively normal position. This means there is nothing obstructing his airway, which means he will be able to to breathe and they will have room for a ventilator tube (which will be needed).

They said the tumor is taking up 68% of the left side of his chest, but his lung volume is about 48% (the average is 52-120%) and the longer he stays in the womb the lung volume may increase. However, the doctors’ said due to the size of the tumor and how long it has been growing they want to remove the tumor within the first couple days of birth. They do believe he will be symptomatic, meaning having some difficulty breathing. Though they do not think it will be severe. They also said he may have a predisposition to Asthma, though they do not think it will be a major issue.

The doctors’ went on to say that whatever lung tissue is removed with the tumor will not grow back, but both lungs will compensate for the portion that is taken out. As far as respiratory function, they believe he will be no different than any other 1 year old.

Around 38 weeks they want to do an Amniocenteses to check for lung development. If the lungs are fully mature at that time they will pick a date to induce labor. As long as my wife doesn’t go into labor early it looks like we will not see them again for about 4 weeks.

At first I was a little taken aback by the “non-emergency attitude” of the doctors at our meeting yesterday. I don’t know if it is because I feel we have been in emergency mode the last 2 months or what. But after talking with a dear friend of mine, he made me see it as a blessing they are not on edge from here on out…HE WAS RIGHT!

I hope you never get tired of hearing this…THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU all for your prayers during this time. You will never know how much EVERY ONE of you has helped us. PLEASE KEEP IT UP!

My love and prayers go out to ALL of you.

God Bless You!

Lew

Hello Everyone,

I know I haven’t given an update in awhile or posted to all the other prayer requests. Please know though I don’t reply you are all in my prayers. It has been kind of hectic. My wife & MIL moved down on June 22nd to where we are scheduled to have our son (about 6 hrs away). I got to see her and the kids this past weekend and brought the kids back with me. As of right now it looks like the doctors have the Amniocenteses scheduled for 8am this Wednesday (7/2). If it comes back positive the doctors want to induce my wife this Thursday at 6:30am (7/3). If for some reason the lungs are not mature enough they said they will wait a week and do another amnio, though my wife and the OB/GYN nurses think she will go into labor before then. As of right now I am planning on leaving on Wednesday around noon (she should have the amnio results by then).

As you can imagine, we are both anxious and excited. We both feel this is where God intended us to be. The doctors still want to do surgery right away, which means it will happen within that first 24-72 hours after he is born. Thank you for all your prayers. you will never know how much it has been a blessing to us. I will try to keep you all updated as well as I can.

Keep up the prayers!

Thanks again & God Bless!!

Lew

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
We fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not our petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer them. Amen.

I will remember your family tonight in Adoration. God bless!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.
